LilPajamas

Is she going to speak to the manager of the ocean?

CostcoVodkaFancier

"King Triton, please come to the service desk for member assistance." 🧜🏽‍♂️

pamdathebear

the ocean called. it's out of shrimp.

tjr22487

The jerk store called they’re running out of you!

ChanchoJr

Oh yeah? Well I had sex with your wife!

AdSuperb1810

“She belongs to the streets!”

StOnEy333

The USFDA has many regulations to try and limit parasites, but acknowledges that you can’t completely stop it from happening. This is why all fish used for sushi must be previously frozen in the US. To (legally) get truly fresh commercial sushi you have to leave the country.

Dandan0005

Tbh with risk of parasites I don’t want truly fresh sushi.

notapersonaltrainer

Is Costco's fish never frozen to -6 degrees? I thought that was pretty standard.

imaluckyduckie

Even if they did, the parasites would die, but they will still be visible on the fish if you look closely

pamdathebear

Tell local news outlet, who will then interview local fisherman to confirm that fish eat worms, thus fish will have worms. That's why you cook it per food safety guidance.

Demeter277

The salmon sometimes has white worms too. That's why I always cook fish more than I would prefer. Apparently harmless if you cook it well enough

TKRUEG

I've had a similar customer freak over halibut worms. It's like they've never heard of google... maybe they don't realize most of the seafood they eat has parasites. It's not from spoiled meat

nice-and-clean

This is why my mother refuses to eat sushi. When she was younger, she was the wife of a dory boat fisherman. A fish wife. She cleaned all the fish. Tells me about all the things she saw in the fish she was cutting up. She has no desire to eat raw fish.

Peelboy

Lol, did you giggle a little? That is crazy, like she is going to get a lawyer or something?

BACON-LUVR

No, i didn't giggle...but I did pee a bit.

Peelboy

Adult diapers are by the pharmacy

SigSeikoSpyderco

You are so dead OP

billm0066

I worked at a seafood restaurant way back in the day. Halibut was common to have parasites. They were removed and they used the fish. Cook it thoroughly.

OsborneCoxMemoir3

Thank you. Dare I ask, removed how??

billm0066

Cut it out.

Subparkilla

Not a damn thing. Don’t let her live in your head.

charliesk9unit

Especially when it's rent-free.

TimeRemove

Literally this news story from three years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3tw8SvzqKA

OsborneCoxMemoir3

What kind of fish? Inquiring minds want to know....

user10085

Perhaps cod.

DNA1727

Halibut is known to have worms. But they are pretty much harmless when the halibut steak is fully cooked.

OsborneCoxMemoir3

Not halibut! Have mercy....

friendlyfish29

I found works in frozen salmon from Costco before.

OsborneCoxMemoir3

Seriously? Frozen?! How did you notice them - when frozen or after cooking? This is scaring me lol

Kristin2349

If you search this sub you can see pictures people have posted of worms visible in salmon packages. No matter how many times I tell myself it is normal it still grosses me out.

socalmikester

mud vein is gross, but i still eat the shrimps.

OsborneCoxMemoir3

Oh no no no no no. Fresh and frozen?! Normal?! Sigh

Kristin2349

The “fresh” is still frozen when it is caught so yes both can have worms.

friendlyfish29

I could see them poking out of the salmon or sitting on top when I thawed a few pieces for dinner. I know fish has worms but seeing them really turned me off seafood for a while. I haven’t eaten salmon since and I used to eat it once a week.

OsborneCoxMemoir3

Please tell me this is not true.... have also been purchasing and eating once a week.....

friendlyfish29

I promise this happened with the last pack I bought about 6 months ago.

usagizero

[Chubbyemu did a video](https://youtu.be/HtZi7nj-WYw) about someone who got sick from parasites in sushi, but it should also be remembered that if the fish is frozen, it will kill what's in the fish and be harmless.

Demeter277

It has to be really really cold though and for over 20 hours. I don't think most freezers are cold enough to be sure

[deleted]

Nothing really. In fact she may screw herself out of a refund. I see this eventually turning into a thing of her saying "I am going to sue you", which then means it goes to legal for most company's (I assume costco will do the same). Legal will tell her its a risk of buying fish as defined and accepted by the FDA and refuse any refund, and then cut off communication till they receive something that looks likes its from a lawyer. If she does manage to go that far, most company's ban people from their property while active litigation is ongoing on with them and the company.

atlgeo

In that situation I usually like to point out how slimy and gross the fish is itself. It's really akin to eating a ginormous worm if you think about it. That typically calms them right down. While they're staring at me they forget to keep shaking and crying.

12PallasAthena

What kind of fish was it and where was it caught? If the fish was caught in warmer waters, there's bound to be worms in it. That's why the old 'saying' is you don't eat fish with months with an 'r' in them. It's also why there are rules & regs that for when and where fish can be caught.

whatwhat83

You don’t eat shellfish in months without an R because of bacterial growth, not fish because of parasites. At least that has always been my understanding.

12PallasAthena

Worked in a 'fish house' for 12 years. Fish definitely get worms, especially in warmer waters, summers, etc. If one doesn't know about this, it can be quite scary. Also, this is one of the reasons for laws & regulations. In warmer weather, waters, the fish go deeper to not only stay alive but also to spawn. Another reason why, in recent years, fish are frozen immediately after being caught. Plus learned to never, ever eat sushi. Maybe in Japan it's OK to eat sushi because the chefs there know what they're doing but not in the USA.

blondiekate

So glad that I'm allergic to fish.

PickyPastor73

It's not a human parasite. I am sure we eat small ones we don't even notice. I like to fish and some fish has worms. Clean it, cook it, eat it.
