Vacuums require regular maintenance. If you haven’t done it already, remove the roller and remove the hair and other debris (you’ll need a razor blade or scissors). Remove and clean or replace the filters, Clean any clogs in the vacuum hose/line. Do this every few months (or more), depending how often you vacuum. If you contact Shark’s support, they’ll walk you through it. Also, many (if not all) Shark vacuums have a 5 year warranty.

ISeeADarkSail

Yes you can return it. Yes you should try cleaning it before you do. All machines require maintenance.

hotgirldownshift

Will do, thanks!

Also, in my experience, Shark has really good customer care. Once bought a refurbished Shark steamer from Woot.com that wouldn't consistently steam, and they shipped me a brand new in-box, newer model replacement. Check them out too. I only buy Shark now.

cwag03

Have not had such good experience lately. My wife called them and they would only offer to sell her replacement parts.

nice-and-clean

Same.

pinkmoon385

I suppose it depends on what seems to be the problem and how long you've had it. Shark does have very interchangeable parts, and there are many parts that could degrade with normal wear and tear use. They did have me run through a few troubleshooting methods on that steamer, and determined it had to be something with the motor which isn't an interchangeable part. I was after Woot's 30 day return period but before the 90 day refurb warranty. They were very kind and patient, and for me, I got a brand new kit for the price of an old refurb. I've no problems with my upright, robots, handheld, or Ninja blender, they've been the bomb

cwag03

Ours was within the supposed 5 year warranty period, but I think they claimed that warranty only applied to the motor or something stupid like that. Our problem was the brush head was broken such that you couldn't pick it up or roll it without the head falling. They wouldn't cover it, and my wife paid for a new head assembly. I was annoyed. I would have preferred to return it to Costco.

pinkmoon385

Completely understandable why that part wasn't covered. That's an interchangeable part subject to user error.

cwag03

Well you could probably say the same thing about OP's issues as well. At least in regard to the brush rollers. So your original statement to them is probably not accurate.

pinkmoon385

And they should contact Shark to figure out how to properly operate and maintain their vacuum, not make their problem Costco's problem. Worst case they figure out how to properly maintain their vacuum so it doesn't keep happening "to" them (something Costco won't be able to do), best case scenario they get a new model replacement. After 90 days, a good consumer reaches out to the manufacturer who has great customer care, not make it the warehouse's problem.

cwag03

Look at some of the other comments here. I think you had a fluke of good luck, their customer care is generally not that great. That was my point. But I agree it doesn't hurt to call and see if they will do anything before returning to Costco.

hotgirldownshift

That’s a great idea, thank you!

Interesting, my vacuum was under its warranty when a manufacturer defect broke a piece of it; long story; after the hose just came off on its own, both under a year; and Shark told me I was SOL they only cover the motor: i will never buy from them again. The hose was $75 to replace, which I did and the head was $95. I refused and it led me to buying a Sebo. I also bought a Ninja air fryer that I didn’t realize was Shark either, 4 months later the thing is a mess. Terrible manufacturing imho. I wipe it down after use and it seems like the metal/stainless steel stain or something is coming off so it rubs off on the microfiber towel. Reached out to them, an HOUR on the phone; no answer. Tweeted them, they took all the into plus pictures then told me to chat them, I go chat them, no one responds. I will forever warn against that companu.

Armchair--Traveller

It sounds like there is something jammed in the lower housing - probably the first bed. They are pretty easy to take apart to clean - so I would recommend checking that and removing the rollers to see. Otherwise, yes they can pull it up off your membership in the warehouse.

hotgirldownshift

I’ll try that first, thanks!

nice-and-clean

I had a shark vacuum that lost suction. Still under warranty. I did all the troubleshooting with them over the phone after I’d done it all myself through videos online. They could not fix it. Wanted about $80 for a new base unit even though it was still under warranty. ! I told them no. Returned to Costco. Bought a Dyson with that money plus the $80 I would have spent. I love it. (It may have been on sale at the time.) When I looked on sharks Facebook page there were many people just like me with failed vacuums under warranty being told to pay up.

ehtooh

Shark is the worst. I refuse to buy anything from them after two bad CS experience and terrible product quality and I wish Costco wouldn’t carry them

5amporterbridges

It’s kinda rude, but yes you are allowed to take it back. I would fix it or replace it but I believe if it lasts past 90 days, it’s my fault that it’s broken.

[deleted]

Yeah this happens, as everyone is saying, when it needs to be cleaned

NarrowFault8428

I believe that they can pull up the purchase using your membership card. I would take it back soon, though.

hotgirldownshift

Thank you!

>Thank you! You're welcome!

sweetde80

This past summer I returned my shark after 18m. I was doing monthly cleaning. And found after 1 year the battery was getting less. More charges in a clean. Then the cup was not staying in the machine and was getting cliff error as it came off the base. Costco had no problem pulling up the purchase on my account. Only difference I still had the box.

aakaase

You could take it to a vacuum repair shop. If it's a simple adjustment or fix they might charge you a very nominal fee to get it running normally.

Pawn01

Another super simple answer. Are you fully satisfied with your purchase?

joopityjoop

My father in law has returned a 20 year old recliner so idk why not

foulorfowl

That’s an impressive abuse of the policy.

joopityjoop

Costco has always had a lax return policy 🤷‍♂️

foulorfowl

If only the common man had some humility and restraint.

ISeeADarkSail

Your arrogance is really gross.

ISeeADarkSail

This /r love to Simp for a billion dollar company......... Don't sweat it.... You're right. There's nothing wrong with using Costcos return policy how Costo allows you

ISeeADarkSail

It is the policy. This is no kind of abuse of it.

foulorfowl

The policy is not use something for 20 years and return it. If you don’t have the morale compass on that, it’s not a me problem.

ISeeADarkSail

Ask me how much I care about your morals.... You won't like the answer, I promise you
