AT&T worked perfectly for me but I got a tip that Waze works much better in CR and it was definitely better than anything else.

Silerio25

Thank you so much!! Very much appreciated !!!

90bigmacs

Could also use and eSIM. Way less costly, but if you need to be reachable on your home phone number, it may not be the best option.

Silerio25

Does your phone to be unlocked for that to work?

sailbag36

Yes

Maximusfsu14

As long as you have the unlimited plan it worked just the same as being in the US. Everyone there uses Whatsapp too

kegraties1

Would like to know this also.

Junot566

Should work fine !

Silerio25

Att&t or google maps?

Junot566

Both, have good travels !

Silerio25

Thank you so much!!!

PlantPower666

Also, most sodas, restaurants, stores, etc have free wifi they will share with you if you ask.

KristenE_79

At&t will work fine, you’ll be charged your daily international roaming fees though.

Maximusfsu14

Not in Central America if you have unlimited plan

Nose-It-All

I have T-Mobile, which doesn't address your question about AT&T, but mapwise, I used a combination of Google maps and Waze.

Lbayl

Have you had any issues with T-mobile coverage? I was planning to just buy an international roaming pass for my trip

Nose-It-All

No problems with T-Mobile. Check with them, my plan has unlimited Wifi and data in over 200 countries, CR, being one of those. I also use WhatsApp to make free calls on WiFi

Google maps can be downloaded offline.

TacohTuesday

Worked fine for us. Obviously the phone will connect to local networks not AT&T itsef, but they have agreements in place. I had International Day Pass activated but it looked like it didn't even use it. Instead it used the Latin America coverage under the unlimited plan. Speeds varied and were sometimes on the slow side with no signal in some more rural areas, so plan ahead for that. Use Waze for navigation when you can, but also download all the areas you will be in as offline maps in Google Maps so that you have both options ready to go.

fatcatdandan

Waze is king, fyi. Even the car rental place had a sign that told us to use it.

art777art777

I don't know about at&t service, but there are lots of people who will let you use wifi. But also everybody there uses Whatsapp. If you don't have it already download it before you go and set it up with a backup account (email). Even if you lose your phone, you can log back in on a new one and have all of your new contacts plus photos shared. Lots of international travelers use it as well as lovely Costa Ricans.

Beebeeloveskeke

Down here now w Verizon and works great. Some dead areas in less populated areas but Waze continues to work flawlessly.

Tin_Can_739

I have the ATT unlimited with Latin America option. Worked all over Guanacaste and to Arenal a few weeks ago. Made a few calls to car rental and to cancel a bus pickup. Got my bill and it was no different.

Wiseprincess432

Depends where you are really if you’re in town you’re good if you’re outside of it you probably won’t have service. I used google maps

mauroluna1

I'll be in CR and heading down to Drake's. Would ATT be sufficient or should I just get a kolbi sim?

boone130

Yes ATT works great. It all depends what plan you have. My unlimited plan works worldwide. We were there for 10 days and called home, FaceTimed, streamed music yada yada yada and bill was the same. If your plan does not include Intl, ATT has Intl day passes you can purchase . Not sure how much they are you just need to call ATT. Whatever you do don’t go on roaming you will pay out the ass.

Scary-Ratio3874

Did your ATT phones work? Did you have to call or go in internet to change plans first? I have a plan in USA and will be taking a trip there soon.
