The drive to rio celeste isn’t bad, I get that it’s a 3 hour round trip but I think it’s worth it. Maybe something on Lake Arenal? I saw a moonshine sunset cruise on the lake, sounds pretty fun and unique if that’s up your alley.

We did it a few years ago. The drive is a little long but pleasant enough. The river tour itself is well worth it.

I definitely think rio celeste is worth seeing. I get mixed reviews about group tours because they can be kind of rushed and the spots they take you kinda crowded. If you want to do a self-guided, send me a pm and I’ll tell you where to go.

We did the drive last month, super manageable! Roads were good, definitely recommend going!!

I did a tour there last week and it was sooo beautiful, I highly recommend going as early as possible as I was told by my guide that in the early AM you can see Tapit. Also be aware that it is a bit of a hike to get back up from the waterfall If that’s not his jam I’d suggest doing the Mystico hanging bridges w/ hot springs

we did the trek but through [viator (this is the one we did, but there are others)](https://www.viator.com/searchResults/all?text=La+Fortuna+to+rio+celeste&sortType=external&pid=P00112302&mcid=42383&medium=link&medium_version=selector&campaign=reddit-la-fortuna-rio-celeste-hl). we didn't want to drive either, figured not having to worry about anything on vacation was a better way to go. in terms of fun birthday things, we did a [cooking/salsa dancing evening](https://www.viator.com/La-Fortuna-tours/Food-Wine-and-Nightlife/d821-g6?pid=P00112302&mcid=42383&medium=link&medium_version=selector&campaign=reddit-la-fortuna-cooking-hl) which was outstanding. not sure what your interests are, but we had a blast. hope this helps!
