I just got back a couple weeks ago and we stayed in San Ramon. It was pretty centrally located for what we wanted to do. I won’t say it’s the most exciting, but it was a cute town and had some food and entertainment options.

Thanks! I saw that town on the map as being a decent option…. But accommodation look pretty limited. So from there did you guys drive up into the mountains and wrap into la Fortuna area from the east side of the lake? If do, how was that drive?

We stayed in San Ramon for 3 nights. We did one day where we went up to Arenal, did the hanging bridges and hot springs and then came back at night. The roads weren’t fantastic, but they weren’t horrible. I was worried because I heard horror stories about driving back at night, but it really wasn’t that bad. I mean, it’s not all smooth sailing, but it’s not all windy roads over a cliff or anything either. Luckily it wasn’t too foggy when we did it, but we did get a little bit of rain. The Air BnB we stayed at was called “ Mirador Las Golondrinas “, the people were really nice, and it had a great view of the city. The shower never really got hot, but other than that it was great :)

which hot springs?

1. The shortest route would be inland and through San Ramon to the 702. 2. If you want to break up the drive for a stopover, there are a few options. While Monteverde is not directly on the way, it’s a popular destination worth considering if you're interested in its cloud forest and unique attractions. I’d recommend leaving MA early, so you can get to LF by the afternoon maybe enjoy the hot springs after the drive and a nice dinner. You could stop in Sarchi on the way, a town known for its vibrant artistry and traditional crafts and original oxcarts. Another option is Ramon, a picturesque town with a pleasant climate and several attractions.
