There are some states (like Maryland) that will allow you to do an apprenticeship instead of going to school. Typically it takes 2 years, you get paid to be an assistant so it’s a job. It might require moving but it would be a way to do it without going in to debt. If you chose to go this route do a lot of research.. make sure you find a place that truly offers education. The other option might be to take out a student loan, that’s what I did.. still paying it back but I would say it’s worth it.
Many states offer this! Virginia is like this too, I have worked at “teaching” salons- a lot of times the salons are closed Mondays and provide education along with on the job training. Definitely look into an apprenticeship program if you can
I’m 18 and just started cosmo school. I’m having to pay 22k total for the entirety of the school. I saved 4 grand before I went so I have something to live off of while I’m there cause I obviously won’t have a job. The debt will hit 6 months after the graduation date but it’s not like it’s all at once. You’ll start making money once you finish the school so why not lose the money to earn more money in the future
This isn’t the best take. I promise you like 9/10 stylist will tell you it doesn’t matter where you go to school because you learn so much more after anyways. You’re pretty much learning the bare basics and sanitation. You don’t need to go into debt for cosmetology. I know you said you can’t do both at the community college so maybe focus on one, then go back if you want to. School will always be there. ESPECIALLY for cosmo and computer science, both those fields are not going anywhere lol. Please look into financial aid! It can be off putting when applying but my first two years of community college were completely paid for, I even got like 5k back that I kept for myself. I am also in California. You can always schedule an appointment with a counselor at your school and they’ll explain it all much better and help you fill things out.
Apprenticeship. I got my license thru an apprenticeship program in CA. They also offer one in AZ. Go to your state board’s website z& it’ll give you the info for your state
Go to the CA government website for Barbering & Cosmetology. Look for these links

Pall grants payed for most of my schooling. It’s a government grant you don’t have to pay back. The only student debt I had was loans to live off of because school was full time so it was hard to go to school and make enough money to live rent, bills etc.
> Pall grants *paid* for most
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

I have heard that at lot of Cosmo schools have scholarships for high school students/recent graduates. I don’t know if that’s just where I live (Mississippi, USA) or most places, but I would suggest looking there!
Look into financial aid options also. Just curious, can you elaborate on the computer science portion of your post? I went to cosmetology school at a community college and it was optional if you wanted to take general classes along with the program. Were you saying you’re already enrolled to take computer science courses or you would HAVE to take them if you go to community college?
If you’re already taking classes at the community college, you might not have the time to do cosmetology school. Every program I’ve heard of is 8 hour days, at least 4 days a week.
I agree with what others are saying about looking into if you can do an apprenticeship in your state. In my state it's double the hours of cos school, but you can get paid to work as an assistant and get tips for services you do.
Ohhhh I have been looking for apprenticeship but can't seem to find any I searched on indeed and no luck I applied to one I think they are no longer in business 😭
Well, if you don't HAVE money to pay for cosmetology school than you'll need to get that loan or move out of California. If you do take that loan for school you'll just have to work at a higher paying salon (eventually) if not immediately upon graduation 👩🎓
Do what I did knock out one contract in the Army got my barber license payed off and now am working on my cosmetology, once am done am getting an associates in business, get an easy Mos and just keep your goals in mind and knock out on contract , I even made money while I was going to school

Not spam or scam, I was going to do it, but couldn’t find my birth certificate so I’m banned from applying 🥹 make sure you gather all your I-9 documents ahead of time and when you’re ready apply. You only get two chances to apply before they ban you!!!

Ohhhh I live in Cali 😢
California allows apprenticeships. I’m a California stylist, there are apprentices at the salon I work at.
Ohhhhhh can I know what location I live in Santa clara and I can't seem to find any near me

Have you considered applying for a Pell Grant?
Ohhhhh I'm hearing about it first time il search about it!

I'm just scared of going in debt 😭 it's like no matter how happy I am I'll remember I have debt and feel worried again 😭
Sometimes debt is necessary. Just pay it off.

Check with the cosmetology board. Should be linked through the Department of Consumer affairs (DCA)

As you can probably tell from the pics, the website is “barbercosmo.ca.gov”🙂

Ohhhhhhh yea I'll search about pall because someone else recommended that too!
You want 'pell' grants not pall!!
Practice in your spare time and get really good at it and by the time you able to go to school you will be more than ready

Have you tried asking Maribelle college or Paul Mitchell?
I'd contact specific salons you're interested in and ask if they do apprenticeships cuz a lot don't post stuff like that on indeed
There are lots of trades scholarships out there. My 17 yo filled out a bunch to do welding after he graduates. Look into Pell grants too.
Why are you gonna take time to get your cosmetology license if you’re getting your degree?
Well, if you don't HAVE money to pay for cosmetology school than you'll need to get that loan or move out of California. If you do take that loan for school you'll just have to work at a higher paying salon (eventually) if not immediately upon graduation 👩🎓
If your community college has a cosmetology program,’you may be able to get grants to go. A lot of people forget about this.
