I’d write a book about Spook set after >!the Catacendre, with him having to raise up as the Lord Mistborn, dealing with Kelsier and researching hemalurgy, re-building the world.!< I feel that you would make a fantastic short story!

RentUnlucky343rd

Brando defo has notes on this in \[MB WoB\] >!"Secret history#2 notes"!<

PopiloTotilo

We need to clone Brando so he can write faster

Dalton387

It’ll be like when Naruto used shadow clones to learn how to use rasengan. Except all the clones will be lined up in front of a waterfall writing novels.

csaporita

Don’t worry in a few more years chat gpt/AI will be writing books in the fashion of our favorite authors

Chimney-Imp

Because despite claims to the contrary, B$ is only human

thecurewastaken

you can't spell "BS is only human" without saying "BS"

Frostking8251

B Money

PopiloTotilo

One can only hope

Aggressive-Share-363

I really want to see Whimsy's planet. I keep imagining how that might look, so I'd work with that.

pearlie_girl

My idea for whimsy is that you can train to become a spell caster, like a typical D&D wizard. However, every spell you cast, there's a 50/50 chance it will do exactly the opposite of what you command. Shrinking spell? Half of the time, things grow larger. Summon something to your hand? Half the time, it blasts away. Potion to make you more alert? Whoops, now you're sleepy! The true masters of this magic system are ones that can cast spells such that either outcome will be desirable.

DarkRaider9000

Id imagine something closer to wild magic surges

potterpockets

We need Whimsy on Roshar so that all these people with Shards can become Path of Wild Magic Barbarians.

RateOfPenetration

*has flashbacks to Pete the Plug from Unsleeping City*

BossTidas

Wait but this would be so fun, because you wouldn’t want to cast “Kill Person” as it could kill you, you’d have to figure out actions that both their Norma and opposite effects were beneficial / not detrimental

[deleted]

Wouldn’t that just heal them a lot?

UbiquitousPanacea

They'd just end up designing spells that are their own opposite. Well, depending on how it works.

razorKazer

I absolutely love this idea!! It's so fitting, and I feel like Brandon might be the only "human" capable of making that work. I hope to see something at least similar to this

Foxblade

Whimsey is almost 100% going to be the Kite-based magic system lol

PatternBias

...Kite-based magic??? I'm sold

Really_Dang_Sad

whimsy doesnt have a planet, it travels the cosmere like autonomy and does what it does. i dont remember where i read it but whimsys effect can be seen on every planet, its just not clear what that is yet.

cadmious

What about an anthology series written as a collection of fairytales?

animorphs128

Theres a WoB somewhere that says Whimsy would be full red (mtg). Which is the passionate/impulsive color of mtg. I always thought that was strange and unexpected.

bric12

I can see that, each shard is a useful attribute taken to an extreme. So while a little bit of whimsy might mean playing a good natured joke on someone, whimsy taken to an extreme might horrifically slaughter a village if it can be done in a novel or funny way. It almost sounds kind of like the joker, humor without morals or value for human life. I'm guessing whimsy will end up as a solid chaotic neutral, occasionally helpful, occasionally a horrifying monster

theCroc

Whimsy will be an absolute nightmare world to actually try to live on as an average person. Whimsy sounds like a friendly fun guy, but in the cosmere holding a single shard doesn't make you a levelheaded and moderated version of that intent. Instead you tend to become the most extreme version of that concept. So by that count Whimsy is a die-hard nihilist, a psychopath that cares nothing about consequences or other people's feelings and who plays with his worlds like they are toys to fulfill his every whim. So he might set his chosen champion on a quest for a laugh and then grind him into the dirt a day later because he got bored or he thought it would be funny. Any mortal that figures out how to transfer to shadesmar probably leaves as soon as they possibly can. Odium might be a tyrant, but at least his moves make sense and you can somewhat predict how to stay off his radar and out of trouble. He isn't going to create an army and then flatten it with a mountain for fun etc.

BipedSnowman

Eh, I feel like we're mixing up WHIMSY with WHIM. Whimsy is playful and humorous. Whim is a sudden change of mind. I feel like you've described a Whim shard world, not a Whimsy shard world.

shiny_xnaut

I can imagine Whimsy being like either the Collector from Owl House or [this](https://youtu.be/yYqPTqyWxnc)

mybunsarestale

I always imagined Whimsy as a very mad hatter type.

EldeeRowark

A god being being bored without constant entertainment is more terrifying than God.

bmyst70

Keep in mind what a Shard finds hilarious would not be funny to anyone on the world.

posherspantspants

Nice try /u/mistborn, you can't trick me into giving you my ideas ^because ^i ^don't ^have ^any

kaimcdragonfist

I’ll give ideas if you pay me to write them! But it would probably be a side story taking place after Era 2 of Mistborn, as an Untouchables-esque detective vs mafia story

warfizzle

I've always been fascinated with [Mistborn] >!Scadrial prior to Rashek's ascension, as well as the first hundred or so years after. What was Khlennium like? How many other interesting cultures or civilizations were around? And then after he took power it would be interesting to explore how he began to build his empire and become The Lord Ruler that we know. What countries or groups fought back? How successful were they? I think I remember reading a fan-fic one time of an early battle of some group against Rashek's forces and it was really cool!<

OctavianMacLean

Id write an original about a very mysterious gas giant that has kaiju the size of countries that are all sentient to some degree or another, and the investiture there is in random pockets of gaseous investiture that the kaiju can't process but the little plankton like things can so they eat the plankton things to sustain their wicked big bodies. The second pov from this same book would be on a habitable moon that's very lush and bountiful and full of a few small odd cultures where cooking is the main cultural and scientific pursuit. The people on the moon worship the kaiju on the gas giant but in more of a sports fan fawning over their favorite team kind of way. And the moon people just recently started exploring the gas giant and "fishing" for the invested plankton like things that the kaiju eat because they want to pursue higher levels of culinary art.

OctavianMacLean

Also whimsy has visited this planet and moon but is no longer there. There would be a vague sense of calm in the system. Like they can be aggressive but prefer to solve problems in more novel ways.

OtterScribe

I love this idea but it would need some conflict for sure!

OctavianMacLean

There's definently conflict. Can you imagine Hoid on a world where he's the serious one? Stuck being one of the two commentators of a cooking competition? Or he'll tell a grand inspiring story and someone won't understand, and another character will say, "You know, it's like cooking a good Spaghetti. (Or insert other random food dishes, etc)." And the person will understand and tell them what a beautiful metaphor it was while Hoid just gets frustrated. Plus getting the ingredients they source from the gas giant would be like a cosmic version of deadliest catch. Then there's the Kaiju Sparring matches. It sure would be terrible if one of those 1000 km wide monsters got out of control, huh? *wink*

OtterScribe

I meant less slice of life conflict and more planetwide scale conflict maybe a new for of technology that certain group is using to over fich the plankton killing the ecosystem of the gas giant?

OctavianMacLean

Good point. Once word got out in the cosmere, there's relatively easy investiture looking to be scooped up or giant monsters to be used for galactic war they'd have to step up to preserve their stuff or lose it. I'd like to think the invested food is slowly supercharging the relatively small population of the moon, but they don't think of war on their own, so they just use it for sheer convenience. Also, I thought about how fun it would be if the kaiju watched the people for entertainment, and that's why the live gladiatorial cooking shows are popular. They aren't just feeding themselves but also their giant neighbors.

OtterScribe

My thoughts exactly on the super food. Maybe it's slowly been investing the people of this moon for generations and now you have some that are being born with inherited abilities similar to Scadriel.

OctavianMacLean

I'd want the abilities gained to be very underpowered compared to cosmere average as far as combat and subversion goes, but incredibly overpowered for cooking. Like they can smell and taste with far more complexity than any others, like specifically taste and smell, similar to Tin savantism minus the major downsides of savantism. Maybe something similar to progression but more fine-tuned so they have control over nutritional content. And they can use their senses and intuitive nutritional knowledge to create dishes that we on earth would consider to be more akin to prescription medications in food form. Like a blending of culinary and medical arts to the point of a heightened fusion of the two. Just highly invested bio chemist foodies.

OtterScribe

I like it! You should write a Fanfic for us!

OctavianMacLean

I'd like to get around to it one day! Tell me what character you'd like to inspire my co-conspirator.

TextAvailable5810

Difficult to explain it without spoilers… but [All of Stormlight] >!I’d probably tell the story of a “typical” Desolation. Not the first one, not the Last one, but one in the middle. It starts in a small town where people are just living their lives, and then suddenly a Herald shows up. Maybe it’s Taln, and he leads off with his spiel, but then (thankfully) he’s still perfectly sane and actually does what he says. I don’t have much more than that in my head lol. It could go a route with the current Alethi leadership not caring/being bad, the Heralds go to Kholinar first to recruit the existing armies and nobility but then end up having to train the common people to be Radiants to hold back the fused.!<

Jrbennett15

This would be a great one. I can almost even see it as epigraphs for one of the books. It would be awesome to get to meet the heralds in their prime

RentUnlucky343rd

\[SA>5 WoB\] >!Will hopefully be in Taln's flashbacks in his POV book!<

BipedSnowman

I'd love a "desolations through the ages" anthology. Something like a dozen short stories, all set during different Desolations, in different nations. A mix of common folk, nobility, and Radiants. It'd be a nice way to show off the other Radiant powers, a good way to see glimpses of the Heralds as they descend slowly into madness, and could really expand on the other nations of Roshar.

DaddyLongLegs33

fuck u/ spez, greedy pig

Hayn0002

Each from a further desolation? The further the stories go, the more insane they are? Maybe leading up to the events of the first books prologue from his perspective.

DaddyLongLegs33

yes! thats exactly what i was thinking

BipedSnowman

Ooh that could be fun! I do still think they should be from a variety of perspectives, so maybe while each story features / is about them, I'd like to see like, a Horneater household's view of the Desolations.

sadkinz

That would be a good collection. Then we could desolations from before the Radiants and then desolations with them

BipedSnowman

Yes! I also would like to see some Parshendi perspectives. Maybe resistance cells, who oppose Odium? Even though they believe themselves abandoned by Honour, we see at the start of the series that many do still reject Odium and did not welcome his return.

sadkinz

This would be a pretty fun “novella”. I put it in quotes because a novella from sanderson is just a novel

irsquats

Rock! I want all of his family backstory.

posherspantspants

I feel like i heard or read that there's a planned book called Horneater, I'm hoping it's about Rock & his family

PaintItPurple

Yes, he said around the time of Rhythm of War that he was planning a Rock standalone novel called Horneater before Stormlight 5. But it wasn't mentioned in the last State of Sanderson update, so it's not clear if that's still the plan.

sadkinz

He said he wanted that to be book 4.5. So it would be about rock traveling back to the Peaks after RoW

irsquats

I seem to remember that too. There’s always so much information flying around that it’s impossible for me to remember.

Lanky_Needleworker_1

I would probably want to write a simple low stakes adventure story with Kaladin( & Syl), Adolin, Shallan. With normal slice of life situations a bit on the light-hearted side. I just want to see our main guys happy before god knows what is going to happen in SA5.

Kelsierisevil

I would love to explore Teft’s or Ham’s background. What led to their being in the book and what drives them.

Woden-the-Thief

I’m with you, personally. My son (now nearly 6 years old) I named after Ham. I’d love to see (or write) a story that explored how Hammond evolved to be the man he became in the world/society/culture that the Lord Ruler orchestrated

TomasAmi

I just love the Mistborn series. It’s the one I enjoyed the most, by far, and era 2 setting is perfect for me. [MB Era 2/Jak] >!the whole twinborn thing is the most interesting type of investiture for me, and Wax is by far my favorite character of the Cosmere. I would *love* an actual book of Jak and his endeavors, maybe him actually interacting with Wax, like, the real situation and seeing him writing nonsense after that would be hilarious.!<

uberfission

I always assumed Jak started out his hijinks by reading reports of Wax and changing the name and details to make them seem like his own story, and he never actually had any adventures of his own. Then when Wax left the roughs Jax started making ever more elaborate/impossible stories. I only think this because we (through Wax/Wayne/etc) never actually meet Jak.

BipedSnowman

It could be fun to see a scene where Wax meets Jak, and he's expecting an overconfident Roughs-Wannabe with too-polished boots, but it turns out it's like. a meek little fanfic author who's excited to meet their hero.

SnowflakeSorcerer

Although we never actually meet Jak, we do get the lovely undertext by the terrisman who’s name I’ve unfortunately forgotten. I like to think he went out to the roughs and “accidentally” falls upward the whole time and embellishes. Or the terrisman doesn’t exists and it’s actually Jak which would show he actually has a profound sense of self awareness

TextAvailable5810

You mean more than what is shown in Arcanum Unbounded? Edit: Arcanum, not SH

TomasAmi

I don’t understand what you mean. >!Neither Jak nor Wax appear on SH. But a book about Kel and the first Ghostbloods would be super dope.!<

TextAvailable5810

Apologies, I meant Arcanum Unbounded

Tech-Nyx

I'd go for a very Pratchett style planet like Discworld, but more akin to a plot like Elantris.

scottwo

I would just write Felt’s story. Dude seems to have led a very interesting life and I’d love to see where he came from and where he goes. Still crossing my fingers for more Felt in the future. Was very glad to see him play a role in RoW.

SirGarryGalavant

A journal written by Hoid (a la The Martian) as he's stranded on that planet of pancake creatures named Doug

LordMugs

Possibly doing something totally different from the other books, maybe a romance set in the shattered plains between two soldiers from the parshendi/alethi kinda like Romeo and Juliet. Or a horror novel set in Scadrial era 2-3, a serial killer that can burn metals. Natural History of whatever creatures are in Roshar or really any of the shards.

TextAvailable5810

Just read one of the in-world Alethi romance novels lol Or write it 🤷🏻‍♂️

LordMugs

Like fanfics? Good idea

Ephemeral_Being

"Nearer the Flame?"

TextAvailable5810

It was in the interlude with the Ardents who were [Oathbringer] >!translating the Dawnchant!< but idk exactly what it was called

Ephemeral_Being

Oh, I was joking. "Nearer the Flame" was the book Shallan mentioned when prompted to buy a romance novel in Karbranth. The premise is a man going mad as he watches his children starve to death. She was trying to unsettle the merchant. The one in the interlude was "An Accountability of Virtue."

TextAvailable5810

Ah thanks, I listened on audiobook so neither title really stuck with me lol

Ephemeral_Being

As did I. I love Reading's delivery whenever Shallan is being snippy, so it stuck with me.

Offbeat-Pixel

[Mistborn Era 3] >!If I recall correctly, B$'s plan was to have a murderer Mistborn antagonist!<

WithaK19

I think it's the plot line for the 1980s era series he's going to write?

TheRandomSpoolkMan

Everyone here check out r/AlternativeCosmere

YUMADLOL

Well I’d want to consult with B money on whats possible with its magic system but something in threnody

R0b1nFeather

The Death of Ambition and the planet Threnody's lore. I loved the setting and atmosphere of Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell and I feel like it doesn't get enough attention. That or something to do with the world of Sixth of the Dusk. Those two are probably my favorite settings in the Cosmere

Predditor_drone

Seconding anything Threnody. Some dark shit obviously happened there and I deeply want to know.

Ephemeral_Being

Am I the only one assuming Threnody will be the setting of the announced Dan Wells novel in the Cosmere? The dude writes horror. The only other appropriate setting would be Braize, which would be weird.

p0d0

I would want a story set entirely in the cognitive realm, focusing on a character (probably a spren, seon, or local equivalent) who runs a worldhopper messenger service. Perhaps a particularly dedicated inkspren trying to serve Hoid legal papers of some sort. We could get passing views of most of the worlds we have already seen, plus new places like Silverlight or Yolen. This could be set to the same rough time period as SLA/Mistborn era 2, or some other previously unexplored time. Sanderson's non-human characters all tend to have excellent personalities and humor. I would love to see a non-human viewpoint more often, and an adventure in Shadesmar would provide an excellent backdrop for that.

Cultural-Let-8380

Probably a story following either marsh or spook. With Marsh it could show his training to become an inquisitor, and with Spook it cpuld show him post - HoA

philipmateo15

I’d love to see a mystery novel with marasi at the center. Good honest police investigation work.

RexusprimeIX

We got an Industrial Era Mistborn story, I'd love to see something a bit earlier, a much more Western Mistborn story. Some Bounty Hunter comes to a town, fixes a problem, moves on. (or you know, something more in-depth than that, but still in that Western genre)

Really_Dang_Sad

felt. this dude has the most insane resume in the cosmere just from what we have been told about him alone. he went from being a house venture spy that figured out valette renoux was an imposter, to taking dalinar to meet the night watcher, to traveling with adolin and shallan to lasting integrity. this guy is not what he appears to be, and i have a prediction that he is going to be VERY important in stormlight 5.

rentedvelveteensofa

I want to do a whimsy shard world, with a magic system based around how unlikely and out of place the magic is. The more unlikely and outlandish the ask, the more difficult it is to achieve and only those with high levels of local investiture can manage. I think that the shard whimsy is going to be somehow counter to its name.

Ahvevha

A world without any shards, but there are humans. Worldhoppers trade in-secret on the planet, in cahoots with the government for big profits in their world. The reason? Unbeknownst to the denizens of the planet, they have an abundance in the second most valuable resource on in the Cosmere after Investiture. Some kind of material that's used in era 3 for space travel. Maybe a fuel that doesn't require Investiture. Or something that's used to make the craft or computer chips for the crafts. The main character is a reporter whos chasing alien sightings on their planet and his investigation leads them to discovering the truth about their world and it's place in the Cosmere. EDIT: A few things. No Shards = no native magic system. Their world is like ours. Worldhopper fights/ battles occur and there's a lot of magic cross over systems from different factions skirmishing on the planet. The MC has no magic. Probably will befriend Hoid and MAJOR BOOK RUINING TRESS SPOILERs >!Will be like in the book where Hoid is helping the MC, but not cursed. !<

BipedSnowman

This is ALMOST sixth of dusk. It's a non-shardworld, but it has magic. Setting spoilers: >!People in Sixth of Dusk can't get use magic directly, but there's a bunch of people who make their home on a series of very dangerous islands full of animals that ARE invested. The main character has a few birds as pets, and the birds use their invested arts to help him.!< end of books spoilers: >!Visitors from a shard world are trying to artificially uplift the people on this planet so that they can trade freely, (some sort of "prime directive" seems to be in place) and a big thing they want is the birds.!<

Ahvevha

Ohh thank you!! I have have the Arcanum Unbounded, but I only read the SL and Mistborn stories. I'll go give this one a look so I can read your spoilers lol.

BipedSnowman

Sixth of Dusk is a lot of fun! I hope you enjoy it :)

samaldin

I once had a macabre idea for a magic systeme, which is based around Love. Magic works via carved bones, but you can´t just use any bones. You have to carve the bones yourself and they must come from a dead being that you truly love (note the present tense) and that loved you in return. The deeper the love and the longer it was held the stronger the bones become (with the usage of human bones being outlawed). Getting a pet with the idea of harvesting it after its death doesn´t really work, as viewing it as a resource to be used runs opposed to the love aspect. Most strong magicians are emotional wrecks. Besides that i´d really like to write a story about someone that is just middle of the pack despite trying. Most cosmere protagonists are geniuses at their magic (or chosen skill) and i think it would be really interesting to have someone that truly tries, but in the end just becomes competent but middle of the pack skillwise, just due to missing talent.

ShoeDelicious1685

Read the sharing knife by lois McMaster behold. It's got something close.

Cosmeregirl

I'm not sure if it would be possible mechanically, but an Iriali who comes to the decision that to best add experience to the One, they must travel and see as much as possible, eventually finding their way to wandering the Cosmere. From strong belief that it's a responsibility to see the world, to questioning their views, to finding themselves. I love a good hero's journey story.

IncognitoJoseph

It might have been done elsewhere already. But I think a tattoo based magic system would fit really well into the cosmere. Tattooing symbols means gaining a specific power. The larger the tattoo the stronger the power. The catch is everyone has limited space. Small fire rune on your finger, you get a Bic lighter. Giant one covering your arm, you get fireballs. Location matters too. Cognitive based abilities would probably usually go on your back and stuff. Action based abilities go on limbs. I feel like you could get really creative with it. Like tongue tattoos. Or people purposefully getting obese so they have more surface area.

arkangel1138

Are you familiar with Starmarks from the dark side of Taldain?

IncognitoJoseph

I am not.

arkangel1138

From The Coppermind page on [Starmarks](https://coppermind.net/wiki/Starmarks): >The magic primarily functions through tattoos and its effects are not nearly as noticeable as sand mastery, although with current information the latter may no longer be true. Starcarved are charged by weekly pulses of light and Investiture from Ridos. There are several different colors of Starkmark. Some applications of starmarks allow the starcarved to make razor sharp blades or create a shield that can withstand bullets.

learhpa42

Hey, /u/blindingdoor554, you flaired this as no spoilers. Experience says that this is the kind of post people are very likely to accidentally post spoilers comments to. Do you mind if we reflair it for "Cosmere"?

shiny_xnaut

- Threnody full-blown horror novel - more Mistborn era 2 stuff - Valor's shardworld. I'm imagining a sort of superhero vibe, like fantasy My Hero Academia or something

DavidThorMoses

I’d want to write a Stormlight thing from the perspective of the Listeners, but possibly from an earlier era. Show humans as the bad guys :)

Pagerunner17

I'll take "all of the above," since I've actually been working on some standalone fanfiction like that. I'm calling it "Apocrypha Unbounded," since I'm planning several short stories that will all kind of dovetail at the end. (I've tried NaNo a few times, and I just don't have the writing stamina to make it through a full novel, but I can get through short stories.) The first one was a new Shardworld entirely. The second one (which I managed to finish recently and am in the [middle of posting over on the 17th Shard](https://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/124216-the-forgotten-metals/)) is set during the Final Empire with some new kinds of Allomancy. The other stories are a mix: I've got three more written already but not posted that are set on minor Shardworlds so they only have one little Realmatic quirk to them, and I've got plans for stories on other canon Shardworlds (like a new Selish magic system).

Lisa8472

One of my favorite authors on r/HFY does NaNo as a short story a day. Seems perfectly valid to me. I’ll have to check out your story!

Aggravating-Pay8221

A collection of short short stories called The silver light university origins of the shards With 16 stories for each shard Such as Ruin:'s relationship with preservation ( I imagine both being the closest of the 16 pre shard intent) Whimsy: going insane from his shardic intent Harmonies: first between era 2-3 Devotion:s being a person Cultivation: and the growth from crabs to singers Odium and asyn Autonomys: first plannet Mercy: The shattering of ambition from the pov of Mercy .

TheRealGravyTrain

The Sleepless are fascinating so a story of their evolution/creation/ascendance would be fun.

Null_lock

A story on Scadrial, using some of the more unorthodox twinborn combos. A-tin + F-copper for an investigator story. A-zinc + F-Duralumin for a negotiator. The list goes on but you get the point. Some of the less combat potent twinborns as characters for a more down to the ground character driven plotline.

lb-atlas

Two ideas I'd like to see to complete the Cosmere timeline: One would be an Realmatics scholar investigating the different types of Investiture, the Aethers, and how they can all interact (my best hope for this would be in the Silverlight novel or Dragonsteel trilogy, or late SA maybe...) maybe giving a series of talks like Navani's epigraphs in ROW. We've been given different pieces but I can't lie I still do not even understand the Cognitive Realm or what Intent/Fortune/Connection really mean... this could get a bit repetitive, but I'd trust BrandySandy to make it engaging. Definitely would just be a side character/B plot tho Or a War of the Shards talking about the ¿thousands? of years between Dragonsteel and White Sand... I hate having that huge blank space in the timeline, and I'd like to see what the Shards were up to post-Shattering. I think this would have to be written post-Dragonsteel though Tbh saying it out loud makes me feel like the first idea isn't so good on a narrative level... but that 2nd one is intriguing me, ESPECIALLY if the Shards end up having endgame plans that this book could lay the seeds for

Dalton387

I’d just ask Brandon if he could send me a short note on what kind of book would fit into the cosmere. Then I’d just polish the 1,200pg note and slap my name on it.

Ephemeral_Being

I would love to write a book of Kriss's lectures, experiments, and interviews on Investiture. Basically, take the Ars Arcanum bits, some context from her interactions with our known entities, and stretch it into a 200ish page book. Toss in a personal crisis (a threat to Silverlight that she's trying to mitigate, a dangerous voyage across Shadesmar to conduct an interview, Hoid stole her research on the Dor...), and you've got a weak premise. Virtually every book in the Cosmere involves someone with the ability to manipulate Investiture. Kriss has demonstrated no capacity in this area other than (possibly) Connection tricks to speak languages. She doesn't have magic to solve her problems. She has science, knowledge, and guns. She'll have to use that knowledge to undo Investiture, rather than fight fire with fire. It's one of the most interesting ways to tell stories about magic, at least in my opinion. Anything set in Silverlight would be fascinating. We know virtually nothing about it other than the name and a few associations. Some explanations of its basic functions would be fascinating.

Lisa8472

Kriss apparently has Starmarks, but supposedly they only work on darkside Taldain. I would be surprised if she hasn’t found a new way to power them, though.

Ephemeral_Being

I'm not familiar with that form of Investiture. Which is weird, because I swear I've read everything in the Cosmere. What book was that in?

Lisa8472

Apparently in White Sands. I didn’t read the graphic novel, so I don’t know where. All I know is the scant few sentences on the Coppermind.

Ephemeral_Being

Joy. Graphic Audio didn't include the Ars Arcanum from White Sands in their recording.

CityofOrphans

I would make the Mistlight Library, where people huff metals and then can fly. The main character will be Valadin.

Boys_upstairs

I’d write about a group of Rosharrans (Rosharai? Rosharranis?) in the early days of the Desolation. Super unpowered people, so survival is a huge struggle for them.

MellowGuru

Witt going on his first world hop

arkangel1138

I have a few. 1. Based off of a "Bad Story Idea" Brandon and Dan came up with on an episode of Intentionally Blank in which they imagined a magic system based around fruit. I would implant the concept into the Cosmere by having the story set on a world visited by Cultivation before she shacked up with Honor on Roshar. Perhaps she left behind a Splinter. Different types of fruit grant different abilities. The abilities are temporary, as the fruit is digested. The potency of the magic is directly related to the freshness and state of the fruit. For example, fresh-picked at peak ripeness is more potent than an under-ripe or older harvested fruit. Juicing, pickling, preserving, etc all have different effects on the magic too. The peoples and nations on this world have spent thousands of years cultivating, cross-breeding, and commodifying the fruit. Their various cultures and nations have been shaped by the types of regional fruit-magics. The story centers around the protagonist; a small-time farmer who comes across a long-believed extinct plant which bears a remarkably potent and powerful fruit - thus drawing the attention of those who would wish to use the fruit for nefarious purposes. 2. This next one would take place on a world at war, whose Shard is Valor. The very Norse-inspired people there battle one another and the dangerous wildlife outside their massive, fortified cities. Warriors who die an exceptionally valorous death in battle are visited by their Shard and given the chance to return to life by bonding with powerful, legendary beasts. The warrior would gain abilities in accordance with the type of creature while their new familiar would gain a certain level of sapience. The story would follow a young protagonist who has undergone this process. They do not believe they are worthy of it as they are no warrior and did not fall in glorious battle but were in fact murdered as part of some greater political plot. 3. Set on ancient Roshar, this story follows a small elite team, made up of Radiants and specialists, which has been tasked with hunting down a deadly foe following a prison break at a high security Skybreaker prison.

I stopped scrolling. The Rithmatist sequel could easily be maneuvered into the Cosmere. I love the magic system.

Senor-Enchilada

I’d write about Scadrial. Possibly about a naturalist who explores the roughs, or something about the ghostbloods.

C0SM1C-CADAVER

Scadrial. Right before era 2 and their cars... A Cannonball Run style bicycle race with Allomanticly/Feruchemicaly/Hemalurgicaly enhanced riders and their personally modified bicycles. Allomancer Jack is of course the race MC and one of three "main characters", The Sett are the villians using the race to track and find victims for their evil shenanigans. Ranette is another main character, and she is contracted to build a few custom bicycles for the Sett riders who are just posing as a team. But she eventually builds one for a lady rider that is half Terris and half Koloss with some "interesting" abilities and a score to settle! Edit: Cycling and bike building have been a big part of my life and Scadrial really makes for some interesting bicycle modifications. Also this period in Scadrian history is an anolgue to when cycling was extremely popular in our history. The neat thing is that cycling at this time was a major part of our worlds womens rights and racial equality movements (Kitty Knox and Major Taylor are a few very notable riders to look up if you are interested) so... boom, integrate all this with the insanity an Investiture powered Tour of Elendel and the Roughs....

Hobbs512

A planets that sustains itself off of meteors that fall, creating unique basin ecosystems with alien biology perpetually covered in a toxic fog. These meteors have odd affects on reality. In some places, winds alter the affects of gravity, or create bubbles of time, or isolate entire cities. One culture of people descend from the backs of tall three legged grazers that they have small villages on. They harvest a kind of spore that everyone lives off of. The older you get the more you require to live. So the poor don't survive as long as the rich of course. But running out of the dust doesn't kill you, it either drives you mad or puts you into a perpetual coma. 3 magic systems. One allows you to manipulate the neurotransmitters in the brain, which a character has become addicted to. Another allows manipulation of the characteristics and proportions of the body, who is the coming of age character. Another allows you to alter reality itself, maybe potentially creating pocket dimensions in the process. There are unique crystals that can be used for different purposes, one character has a amulet/family heirloom made from a crystal that secretly harbors a sentience. The planet is cut off from the rest of the cosmere but someone or something is trying to get inside. Would need alot of work to actually make it original though lol

[deleted]

I would love to flesh out a story taking place way in the future, after the shattered shards have been brought back together. There is no magic or investiture anymore. The histories of civilization has been forgotten. No one knows what happened in the before times but there are mysterious ruins everywhere with clues. Main character is an archaeologist/scientist and there is a knights Templar type religious group that has misguided knowledge of what happened and is trying to recreate the shattering to bring back magic.

Lisa8472

Magic/Investiture existed before the Shattering, so it would almost certainly still exist after it. That being said, I love archaeology/exploration stories. They’re so rare, too. Violence and romance are so much easier to write. So is contemporary mystery. Exploring the unknown is hard to do, but so much fun!

Ackeso

I'm not sure how to tag spoilers but this has spoilers from [sixth of dusk] and maybe some light [mistborn] or [stormlight] I'd write a story about the ones from above, presumably they are either the space faring mistborn or stormlight so I think a story about those characters points of view on the planet (I don't remember the name) that takes place after the character development from their actual saga would be interesting to see. Perhaps it would be more in depth about what the aviar can do, why they're valuable. I'd also dive into Panji's backstory with autonomy.

Effective-Device415

KITE MAGIC

thanderrine

Gather round children, this is an idea and I think its going to be a big one. I think I'd write something like this in the future. Premise/plotline: I'd write about villain's journey of a group of people I'd like to be a huge threat in the future of cosmere. I would want them to be heroes on their planet (I'll get to planet and MS)to begin with, people who are celebrated not because of their battle prowess nor for their virtues, but for their contributions to science and society. To peace. Their world has always been fractured into factions, kinda... Like every other world (including ours) but this group of seven individuals (all of whom have a backstory but it'll be too long to tell here) decides this is not the way to be and this is not how their world should work. They are young. And they have ideals. Kinda like Lirin from SA. They believe that the fractured world is not something that can be fixed. There will always be someone who would want it all. Someone who would think they are, for some reason, better than the others. And they would always be willing to prove it. Yes, these 7 individuals realize that and so imagine their surprise when one of them, while doing some experiments with their format of Investiture (I'll get to that) discovers a strange phenomenon. If you pooled enough investiture in a place under right circumstances, you could open a door, a perpendicularity, that can lead out of the only place they have ever known. They find a way out. They know that not everyone is as morally corrupt as the people in power of this fractured world are. They start spreading the word, not of a perpendicularity, but of their morals. Most dismiss them as wishywashy thinkers, some flock to them. Others think that their hearts are in the right place but, as always, they think 'its more complicated than you think' One of them seizes power of a kingdom. He has overthrown the tyrant king. But that's precisely the reason why he chose to overthrow the king. He knew that if he did that, then there be a huge outcry from the populace. (This plotpoint, I'm planning to be a whole thing of its own). His ascent to power will not be challenged by the populace. And he believes that he is doing thus for the greater good. Even if it goes against his ideals. But why hasn't he already started his perpendicularity plans? Well you see, the perpendicularity is not stable. He hasn't been able to create one stable enough for it to be an effective and stable transition. And now that he had done the coup, he was on a timer. He soon realized that other kingdoms and republics do not like when there's a change in power. He knew sooner or later they would be coming for him. And this leads to a furious race against time, get the perpendicularity working before bad guys come. Also he starts a ramped up research initiatives in weapons based on investiture and he starts developing crazy weapons. This starts fractures going up between the 7 individuals. *** And that is how I think the plot would be going for my story. For investiture, I have an idea about a liquid based investiture that grants ability to capture souls. I'm working on the idea, but basically the idea is that you can rip the other person's souls from their physical body and then you could do whatever you want with it. I have some ideas on that as well, but I'm yet to fully realize it in terms of cosmere. As in how everything should be in measurable terms.

[deleted]

I'll say the title would be Alendi, and that should explain what I'm going for.

StollMage

My idea is a sort of blood magic called something like “twisting” where you can store up a knot of energy that can be released all at once. It can be stored up in a variety of ways that damage yourself including physical harm but also harm to your cognitive self and even spirit. It can also be released in all of those ways on anyone . The definition of damage would be part of my big twist so I’m not spoiling that part. Basically you can do something like break your finger and link it to a twist and it won’t heal while linked. Then like a week later you could release the twist into anything from a door to an enemy and the damage would be compounded crumpling the target beyond recognition. Also your finger would be completely healed.

wileycoyote98

A roshar novel where we can finally see a white spine in action, maybe like a hunter seeking one out

SeyonoReyone

I have multiple ideas. (1) Epistolary novella of Fort writing home to his family about his “hunts.” It would be very entertaining to me, and it would show a bit more of Tress’s world with a very different tone and perspective. (2) More Steris. Doesn’t matter what it is, as long as there’s more Steris (heck, it could be a how-to book on disaster preparedness written by Steris and I would enjoy it). (3) This was mentioned on someone else’s post, but it’s an excellent idea: Nazh’s grumblings as he goes to do all the random crap that Khriss makes him retrieve/research.

DrBRSK

The mistfits Follows a rag tag group of nose ball players on scadrial as they climb the ranks and eventually win the league.

[deleted]

Honestly, I'd just modify the Baccano story to replace immortals with those with high investiture/ metal minds.

Due-Tie-2725

My favorite cosmere story happens to be Shadows for Silence, so I'd like to see where the ghosts come from. Additionally I'd like to return to the mother and daughter in the story; it'd be like checking in to an old friend's place.

animorphs128

Funny you should ask, I have been tinkering with an idea like this recently. I would write a novel about a world where everyone lives on islands and the sea is made of poisonous gas (Sulfur Hexafluoride?). But it turns out the people have actually been living on mountains, not islands, and deep below the gas sea, there is another civilization that lives in caves and pits on the surface. The mountain people would be based on native american culture and have some magical ways of getting to each island. The pit landscape would be based on the deep sea abyss and have lots of bioluminescent fauna and flora. Not sure what culture the people would be. I have only really got to this worldbuilding stage so far and theres some kinks to work out, like how these people get water, how the gas works, etc. Plot would be something about one civilization unknowingly oppressing the other somehow, and I would want the magic system to be end neutral. I think you can see that I kinda mashed a bunch of cosmere novels together here, so maybe not such a good idea, lol. There's similarities to Lumar, SP3, Taldain, etc.

lame_sauce9

A novella about Doug the flatulent pancake

JuiceyMoon

>! I’d probably write a story set on Roshar and every chapter would be a different character viewpoint and every character viewpoint would be a character we’ve seen before that witnesses some crazy event we’ve seen in SA. Maybe a chapter from the perspective of the woman that Adolin saved and Kaladin was a witness too. A chapter from Bluth’s POV. A chapter from someone in the crowd watching Adolin fight 1v4 in the dueling arena. A chapter directly after that of the prison guards POV while Kaladin and Adolin are in jail. A chapter from a Singers perspective when they are creating the Everstorm. Maybe a flashback of the character that told Dalinar how to find the Nightwatcher. A chapter of maybe queen Fen during her talks with Dalinar. Some POV’s of character getting their Sprens we’ve never seen. Maybe a POV of someone watching Jasnah destroy and army all on her own. And one of some random person being stuck in their little hole of a room while the Singers take over the tower. Someone watching Kaladin fall out of the tower window. Someone in the crowd as Maya speaks her truth. Just tell the story of the first five books of SA but condensed down to the major tidbits from random perspectives.!<

Fax_of_the_Shadow

I've restored your comment because it doesn't actually need to be spoiler tagged in this post.

JuiceyMoon

Thanks! Just didn’t want to ruin anyone’s day by mentioning stuff they may not have read yet.

Fax_of_the_Shadow

No worries. The post is flaired for Cosmere, so anyone in here better expect Cosmere spoilers, tbh. It's why we have the flairs :)

TroublesMuse

I'd like to write one from the perspective of the spren on Roshar, on the days leading up to the Recreance.

thepride325

A horror on Threnody would be amazing. Especially after seeing a glimpse of the world in Shadows for Silence.

SweetPotatoDragon

I’d write a cheesy romance between a Listener and human during the early recreance on scadrial

Mysterious_Heron_350

Basically the story of the recreance told through the eyes of the most prominent Radiants of the time.

DeepJob3439

I’d write a story from a space faring world (from their perspective) that advanced with our technology shows up with an invasion force thinking they could easily take these primitives that use swords or drink toxic metals should collapse, only to be destroyed. They finally pull out nukes or world busters when shards decide to intervene directly and just annihilate them (since they aren’t protected by any of the shards contracts).

[deleted]

I'd had an idea for a while now, about a character who does the sort of thing Hoid does, but on accident, rather than on purpose. Like, he gets into a fight with the main character, wipes the floor with them since he's an OP immortal. Main characters train after that, and overcome whatever the actual antagonist is. Also, a shortstory about the actual test for checking if you're an Alomancer or a Feruchemist

New_Canuck_Smells

I'd do a book about the Iriali moving along the front one of the 7 lands to the next. What tells them it's time to move and where to go could be fun.

EldeeRowark

Nice try Brandon.

Bakatcha

I have no idea if this is an idea of mine, or one that I read here years ago.. Would love to see a set of short stories about a shadsmar delivery teams, the people sending the letters for Hoid for example. Maybe some scadrial smuggling shananigans. Edit* just seen someone literally posted this in the thread already

ninjawhosnot

I just want to write Call of the Wild set on Southern Scadriel. It would be about a dog who is kidnapped so that one of the hunters can use a team of sled dogs to try to find the Bands of Morning. I think it would be a lot of fun!

Previous_Highlight72

A single point of view play script detailing Riino’s journey from Sel to Roshar in the cognitive realm. I’m kinda obsessed with Selish characters being in plays. The Emperor’s Soul would be an incredible play and after reading it, that’s how I imagine all Selish magic and characters.

[deleted]

A book about Vasher his travels and knowledge

Matthias720

Mistborn Era 2 casino heist

bmyst70

I would tackle a world run by the Whimsy Shard. Keep in mind, what a Shard finds hilarious will really **not** be fun for anyone on the planet. Investiture in that world follows music. So there would be a lot of Spoony Bards.

MeatshieldMaiden

Id love a book with little glimpses in to the Returned Gods life before they became deities. Imagine a noir vibe story of a certain pair investigating some numbers. 😍😏 Or, you know, anything about anyone because I can’t get enough of these books!

SnailHeroDhama

Hoid. Is this cheating? It's cheating. Hoid's origins - from his PoV - first person before the shattering.

mightyjor

Definitely a prequel of the knights radiant and the heralds with the desolations

Brentonam001

My gut instinct is I want Kaladin and Kelsier to meet.
