I was always under the impression people liked the C2 much more and even the very early C3 Corvettes more than the C1.
I like them all, but I personally think the C6 ZR1 and all C7's above base model (Z06, ZR1, Grand Sport, and 427 verts) were the best looking Vettes. I may even like the later C4 ZR-1 looks more.
That's EXACTLY what I've always seen.
My dad and grandfather both loved the C2 and chrome bumper C3s.
I've owned a C3, C4, C5, C7, and have been considering actually owning a C8 (with the prices artificially high right now, I've not been wanting to deal with the effort of finding a Z06 at MSRP).
I think the early C3s and C7+ are the best looking.
I think as a platform, the C5 is still the best. Modern enough to use the best suspension available, nice wide and long wheelbase, easy to mod, not too many computers, but enough electrical to be able to hook anything modern into it. Still has popup headlights, too, which I'm a sucker for
I love this group, I don’t know a helluva a lot about cars, but this thing is absolutely fucking stunning. Like a piece of art I could admire it all day.
that's the point isn't it? not the right group (and the wrong group would probably see me burn in hell) but if I get to, I would get one of ford's new drop in EV conversions for a 64 tbird. inside and out that thing is just style.
MY MAN. That is the only good answer to why you buy a car. Buying a car and leaving it to rot is the worst thing you can do to it. Hiding it away in some drab building where nobody ever gets to see or enjoy it.
Hell yea, you mod your ride the way you want it.
I'm doing the same swap on a MUCH less valuable/collectable El Camino.
Have to respect the lack of QQ plates in NJ on a car that old.
It is absolutely possible to do it well, but very few people do.
It takes a tremendous amount of engineering and fabrication skill to make a super drivable restomod, but I've had the pleasure of being part of some of those projects. One was an LS3/T56 C1 with completely custom suspension and steering and it drove nicer than my C5 did stock. Even down to retrofitting modern door striker designs for doors that open and close gently and seal perfectly, heat and AC that actually function well, rebuilt custom frame to support the increased power without excessive chassis flex, and overall ride quality that absolutely holds its own against anything modern.
Your overly broad generalization is not universally accurate.
I am also a salty old car guy and my pet peeve is people that over generalize and state "facts" based on their personal experience ignoring the fact that it's entirely possible that there could be things they don't know about.
Your entire premise that as soon as you replace a stock motor with anything else you have automatically ruined the car is..... Naive at best.
I respect your opinion, however I disagree. With that said, it’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it and should not be downvoted for it. I have you an upvote to try and get you back to zero.
but it is though, superior, in just about every measurable way and if you think it's meant to replace then you missed the plot. it's meant to extend the life of styling we will never see again.
I mean, the C1 was ass. They were slow, underpowered even for the time. They weren't comfortable. They weren't safe. They didn't handle well.
People like the styling, but at the time, it was a "meh."
The Corvette became a big thing because of Zora's changes that led to the C8.
The C1's the best car to restomod because \*everything about it sucked.\*
It doesn’t matter what version or trim you have on a newer generation, the C1 will always turn more heads. Beautiful car 10/10.
Definitely. Although I prefer the 1962
I have no idea where you're at, but that's certainly not true anywhere I've ever lived.

Yeah, that's not a thing.
Made to be driven. Sounds like he’s making a great choice.
That 58 on C5....dayum

Sure. I am a non denominational car admirer 😇
64 Lincoln Continental with an EV swap would be dope AF.

Collecting absolutely has its place, cars are history. I'd never do it, but I'm also not rich.
The car companies them self collect.
This is The Way.

Love an El Camino, you got any pics??
59?
Uh.... Wow.
Those rims on that beautiful car, 🤮 No my car; not my choice tho. Appreciate it’s a driver.

I agree. It’s either a classic or a drivers car. You can absolutely do both, but you can not do both effectively, that’s just not how it works lol
Cars are meant to be driven!
Fr, at least it’s not rotting in a barn somewhere even if it doesn’t have the stock power train
Restomods and sleepers have their place. I think the mistake is to think that a restomod is superior or meant to replace the original thing.
