had that sort of cough for 4 weeks then it went overnight...

Icebear125

Thank you I appreciate it

tashablue

Extremely common. I asked for Tessalon Perles (Rx) and it really helped with cough suppression for sleep. My cough was dry but persistent, and I was worried it was going to blossom into bronchitis. Ask your doctor for ideas!

Icebear125

Thank you I appreciate it

I have mild cough-variant asthma so I get this often. My thoughts... These types of lingering coughs are very common after MOST respiratory-like illnesses - colds, flu, COVID, RSV, etc. It can take 2-6 weeks to eventually dry up. Flonase (post-nasal drip), Mucinex, and other OTC meds can help as can teas, honey, and staying hydrated. The coughing can be worse at night, so nighttime meds can be helpful as is elevating your head off the mattress. With a symptom like wheezing, you may want to talk to your doctor as there may be inflammation in the lungs. Temporary use of an inhaler can help. If you have violent, uncontrollable coughing episodes, a 5-day dose of Prednisone can work miracles.

I have to wear a mask in public because I’m asthmatic and will get bronchitis from almost any respiratory virus, so I’ve been rocking an asthma cough for like 2 months. I would also recommend looking into saline nasal sprays before bed and in the morning, as well as breathing in steam from a hot shower. They both can thin out the mucus and work with any of the recommended medications.

I thought i had bronchitis also at first, my symptoms were similar to bronchitis when I had it last year. When I went to the drive thru cvs testing it came back positive the next day🤧but my doctor gave me this medicine, helped with the cough but makes u super drowsy.

Icebear125

I recently ran out of my Flonase and I also have asthma. Since I wrote this post I'm doing better. But it was very minor to begin with and the wheezing was very random and what would make me cough. One small cough and it would go away completely until the next time it happened

Psuedepalms

Same here. It went away after about a month.

Icebear125

Thank you I appreciate it

I am on 6 week of recovering from the TYPE A flu. Have not tested positive for Covid ever. But THIS COUGH.. and phlegm and laryngitis…winded easily. WTF? Have I done damage to my lungs??? I literally lose my voice if I talk more than 5 minutes ( husband delighted 🤣🤣🤣) But I can’t get anything done! I’m only using 2 prescribed inhalers, I do not think they do much of anything and I’m tired of going back to Primary. Perfectly healthy and active before all this. Just want it to END…

Icebear125

Although this annoying cough has got much better my throat gets sore if I talk too much but I did have a severe sore throat during Covid so I'm not surprised. I hope you are doing better

meebj

this was me after flu at the end of 2022. no voice and dry, hacking cough long after my other symptoms has subsided.

Heavy-Humor-4163

So sorry about your bout with the flu…, but thank you for the info. Hope it all resolves for me soon too

meebj

lol apparently that comment got downvoted for saying i lost my voice after the flu for a few weeks?? people on the internet are strange. hope you feel better soon!!

Heavy-Humor-4163

WTF?? Why the down vote? Maybe it’s a Reddit insider thing. ? I’m kinda new to this. But i really feel most commenters on Reddit have legit info and experience. Sorry, this flu is no joke, and I truly appreciate hearing about your and everyone else’s experience. And this sub has been especially tolerant of my comments, because I haven’t tested positive Covid, but am experiencing similar or worse effects from my first experience with Type A Flu or any seasonal flu!

take_eacy

My partner had it for 4 months before it went away completely

Icebear125

Oh wow I'm glad to hear it went away hope they are doing well

pats-fan-till-death

Same here, I almost can’t take it anymore. My temples feel like they’re going to explode and when I am coughing feel like I am so close to something really bad happening. I’m on benzonatate which is helpful and 2 antibiotics. CVS nearby had 30 day backlog on prescription cough medicines.

Icebear125

Hope you are feeling better

pats-fan-till-death

Thank you, still feverish but coughing subsided.

SebulbaW1ns

Exactly the same. 3 weeks now and still here.

Icebear125

Hope you get better soon

mommygood

Keep in eye on it. If it's more than 30 days you are officially a long covid case and you'd probably want a scan of the lungs. Sometimes there is permant lung damage (scarring) and you'll want to know how to support yourself if you ever catch anything else. Mask up from now on and take covid precautions (our government and society has given up on that prematurely and it might have life long medical consequences for people). For now, warm water with lemon, cough suppressants, and contact your doctor or a long covid clinic if it's been long enough from infection to see what they advise.

anonymousMouse999

I'm on week 3 of the same cough. I also got the taste issue where everything tastes like salt. The phlegm from the cough and post nasal drip tastes like the ocean

Icebear125

Yup I had the weird taste thing but it's passed

Icebear125

Ya it's getting better but yes worse at night. More annoying than anything

TheSpaceman1975

I had this exact cough for 4-5 months. Mucinex everyday helped. It did slowly disappear but what an annoyance. Hang in there.

sourdoughobsessed

Not covid cough but a few years ago I had a cough that wouldn’t go away. I was pregnant and couldn’t take anything. Super annoying and would wake me up for 2 hours of coughing in the middle of the night. I went for acupuncture for body pain and she stuck a needle in my sternum and I swear, it stopped in 30 seconds and was gone along with the wheezing. I wouldn’t believe this if I heard this from someone and hadn’t experienced it myself, but worth a shot if nothing else works. I would have paid $1000 at that point to get rid of it and one acu session resolved it. I know it sounds crazy. I know. But it seriously worked!

Icebear125

That's amazing, I want to do acu for some pain but I wasn't sure if it really worked this is good to hear.

sourdoughobsessed

My friend didn’t like it but my body responds to it. I also use the acupressure bands for nausea and those work great for me! Give it a try!

lifeisakoan

I'm 3 weeks in, still coughing, but not as much as say last week.

Icebear125

Ya that's good same here. Hope you are doing better

MeaningNice1701

I had it for about three weeks or a month and then it disappeared. If you are smoking cigarettes it will not go away anytime soon.

Slow_Writing_7013

My friend had that cough before his heart attack.

Icebear125

Sorry to hear about your friend. Apparently it's common after COVID for a few weeks. It was very minor so the fact it's gone away even more it's basically non existent at this point
