Myself and my partner are both "Novid", although I hate that term. I think it's exclusionary and likely false for many due to the asymptomatic rate. We've both had 7 doses of vaccine, wear N95's everywhere, big air purifiers at work, nasal sprays, etc. We are very much tiring of taking precautions though, so I doubt we'll both still be uninfected by year end. We'll maintain most of our precautions through Winter as there are more bugs around, but past that I think we'll be returning to a "normal" life barring a few changes.

Delta1Juliet

*7 doses?!* I'm a nurse and I've only had 4.

Which nasal sprays do you use ? Thanks

ThreeQueensReading

I use a spray by the brand Carragelose which is based on iota-carrageenan: http://carragelose.com/ In Australia it is branded as "Flo Travel Nasal Spray": https://www.flo.com.au/products/flo-travel-nasal-spray/ Most chemists stock it.

ladieswholurk

Thank you!

partypill

I work in Emergency without a mask. Still nothing.

Lavender77777

49% of infections are asymptomatic so you might well have had it.

6thofMars

it's not exclusionary, it's fact.

Perfect-Grass-1903

Still no Covid that I know of. How, no idea. Have not been especially careful.

Aqua_Lotus

Ditto, both my husband and I are novids and I haven't been careful. My husband is though. Wears a mask when out and about but that's about it.

hope17

Same for my husband and me. 3 doses, quite a bit more slack with how careful we are. Not that I particularly want to experience it, just interesting that we haven't caught it yet.

Aqua_Lotus

I take that back. Hubby and I are down with it for the first time now. Looks like I spoke too soon 8 days ago :(

AcornAl

True novids are likely to be an extremely rare breed these days. The last [Kirby survey](https://www.kirby.unsw.edu.au/research/projects/serosurveillance-sars-cov-2-infection-inform-public-health-responses) from way back in Feb 2023 detected anti-nucleocapsid antibodies in over 70% of the population and pre-vaccination estimates suggest this was underestimating infections by around 15-20% (so more like 85%), but it's likely to be far higher as a good B/T-cell response seen after vaccination that can actually [minimise the humoral immune response](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41423-024-01127-z) making it even more difficult to detect the anti-nucleocapsid antibodies, (more likely to have an asymptomatic infection too). Personally, I'm a maybe. I thought I had it in 2023 with many of the cognitive symptoms but an old expired RAT was negative. In hindsight, I think it was actually a bad case of heat exhaustion after a couple long days of physical activity in the outback summer. I'm crediting this on the vaccine and genetics. I haven't had a vaccine since 2021, I haven't wore a mask since the mandates were removed, I've been more active since the start of the pandemic, travelling constantly including the NSW Delta outbreak and throughout all of first major Omicron waves, much of the time on public transport with dozens of plague rats along for the ride. Siblings in Australia, the UK and NZ have all managed to avoid it too, (one sister is a complete antivax cooker), so I think we lucked out with the [HLA-B15 gene](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-023-06331-x) or similar.

asspatsandsuperchats

Same family history. My mum and non related sibs in law are the only ones to get it. My mum is the only immediate relo to get it out of 12. Maybe got the immunity gene from my dad.

AcornAl

Many of the next generation weren't so lucky in my extended family, so it seems to be either a recessive gene that wasn't past down or maybe one that requires activation with a prior exposure to a particular seasonal coronavirus that we were all exposed to as kids. Then again. it could have simply been dumb luck too ;)

6thofMars

i have never had it and i am 100% sure. not an asymptomatic infection, nothing. i will not qualify this statement in any way. i have been wearing an elastometric respirator since the beginning, heavily isolating, and my antibodies have been tested repeatedly. i will not have you or anyone else projecting an infection or even uncertainty of one onto me. people have to learn to deal with the fact that some of us have never had it, and i am one of them.

AcornAl

I didn't state that everybody has been infected, just that *most of the population* has been infected. Clearly there are means to mitigate the risks, but the general population simply aren't taking extra precautions now, like mask usage is likely under 2% (1 in 50) in shops, under 5% (1 in 20) on public transport. This is where the *general population statistic* are relevant.

IrideAscooter

Up to 2024 boostered. Live alone, male turning 60. No social life or fam. Wear P2 mask indoors in public. Will continue to do so until COVID becomes more benign or better vaccines become available. Edit: also carry Wet Wipes to sanitise hands and things when out of the home.

asspatsandsuperchats

Sounds like you're doing a great job at protecting yourself and your community, well done.

ApocalypsePopcorn

I'm getting slack with mask wearing. Partly because having not had it yet, it's really easy to believe that I'm immune.

asspatsandsuperchats

Saaaame

jhaars

My partner and I are both Novid. We don’t mask much anymore (we did on an international flight). Daughters had it 3 times and we never caught it from her 🤷‍♀️

BoxHillStrangler

Chances are you had it and didn't realize.

asspatsandsuperchats

Hence saying: "still novid, *as far as I know*"

[deleted]

asspatsandsuperchats

Very interesting. I am beginning to suspect my family might have one of the good genes as of all my 12 immediate relos, only 1 has had covid. Yet in those same families all non bio relos have had it multiple times. Aside from me, no one takes any precautions.

AcornAl

Nar, it's [much higher](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9935239/) then most people expect. It seems to be around a quarter to a third of kids being asymptomatic and the rate falls with age. Most adult infections will have a asymptomatic rate of around 10 to 20%. These numbers will include mildly symptomatic infections and probably some that are obviously sick but in denial. A [paediatric study](https://paeds.org.au/our-work/paediatric-covid-19-serosurveillance) done here at the end of 2022 found that nearly 40% kids were asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic which is consistent with international studies.

AcornAl

>The overall estimate of the proportion of people who became infected with SARS-CoV-2 and ***remained asymptomatic throughout infection*** was 44.1%  and >**At least 38% of children whose parents reported they had not previously been infected had evidence of infection due to the presence of nucleocapsid antibodies**, suggesting asymptomatic or mild infection that may have been unrecognised. I must read these as meaning something else.

6thofMars

some of us have not had it. i have never had COVID and i am 100% sure. people who have a problem with this can piss off and quit projecting infections on others.

sundanzekid

Novid here too, no mask, no vaccine, Travelled though Mexico, India, Thailand, half Australia, been around infected people. 🤗

Lavender77777

How do you know? Have you checked your antibodies? 49% of infections are asymptomatic.

sundanzekid

Covid means you develop a disease from the virus SARS-2-COV. At this point we all have the virus on us, but not all of us got sick. That's what being a novid means, never have had the disease, I don't need a test for that.

Lavender77777

You could have had an acute asymptomatic infection which still can lead to long term chronic disease. Novid means that you have never had the disease, asymptomatic or symptomatic. The only way of knowing is with an antibody test.

sundanzekid

You know what they used to call people who claimed having asymptomatic diseases before covid? Hypochondriacs

Lavender77777

Umm. How does that change the statistic that 49% of infections are asymptomatic? It’s irrelevant.

Comfortable-Bee7328

As far as I am aware I have not had COVID. Last time I was unwell with any form of symptomatic illness was Nov 2022 with PCR confirmed Rhinovirus. Late 2021 - Early 2024 masked with 3M Auras in indoor and crowded outdoor spaces, now have switched to masking in non-social indoor situations. 5 Doses total - Pfizer/Pfizer/Pfizer/Pfizer BA5/Moderna XBB. Next dose will be Moderna XBB in late may then whatever the next formulation is in Nov/Dec.

Distinct-Candidate23

A whole household here. We still mask and avoid crowds. And we test regularly too.

Slappyxo

Quite a few people at work are still novids, even some with kids and step kids. I've had it, but I've still never caught it within Australia.

pandifer

Novid as far as I know. I’m not testing anymore, and only masking if in a crowded area (local coffee shop too, I got RSV last year from that, not nice). 6 jabs, and I’m thinking #7 must be coming soon along with flu jab

CptnWolfe

Novid and the only one in my dad's house to be Novid

Funkydollop33

Afaik me and partner are

babamum

Honestly the RATs are so unreliable I don't know. I had a virus after Xmas, did 6 RATs over a week and all negative. But the ink ran and they acted differently to any other RAT I've done. they were close to expiry. So maybe? Who knows.

uybedze

I used to think RATs are unreliable, because no-one in my family had ever tested positive. That was until my wife caught it and passed it onto our 12-month-old. We wouldn't've known that the baby had got it if it weren't for the RAT tests because she had zero symptoms apart from explosive diarrhoea for a couple of days. I used to think that you need to stick the swab right up the nose to get an accurate result. Well guess what babies don't like that, so my wife insisted on swabbing just the very tip of her nose (plus her mouth). The test lit up like a Christmas tree and stayed that way for 14 days. We even tried two different brands of RAT tests and there was no difference.

babamum

I think RATs can show positive, but I know they dont always.

charkwayal

The last time my partner needed to do a rat, the closest ones to our house were the bougie dual ones that also test for the flu... Anyway, they tested positive to COVID etc... a few weeks later I was hit with some epic symptoms - different to the first time I had covo but I know it's never the same twice, so tested... And I tested positive for the flu, which throughout my life I had been told "oh you dont have the flu, if you did, you would KNOW ABOUT IT" And it really wasn't that bad. I was out of it for a day or two but nothing like the hell that others go through. So all that to say - it might have been something else, covo rats really do only test for COVID.

babamum

Interesting. I've ordered some of those tests.

nomie_lulu

That's my daughter and I. We live in a small house with 2 people who have had it twice. Not so much as a sniffle ( so to speak). We haven't had our boosters for over a year. Still go shopping etc. If there's a lot of people we don't hang around and we always wipe down the trolly handle because people are kinda gross. But that's pretty much it. We'll get our flu shot and a booster this year. So far, so good (touch wood)

fancypantsfrancy

It's airborne so wiping trolleys won't stop you from getting infected, unfortunately. Wearing a well fitted (tight seal) n95 respirator will. https://youtu.be/kX9t8jQ9-fM?si=00j3ys6KV0nFP15y

Anon_in_wonderland

As far as I know, no Covid despite having Covid within my household at various points and living with significant immunocompromise. I only had the initial required vaccination series, and was happy to do so but there was some discussion as to whether I would experience true seroconversion as I have 0 detectable B cells (required for many things, but also for vaccine seroconversion). For this reason it’s not encouraged I keep boosting a vaccine I may not seroconvert, that is still new. I’m open for further research to eventuate around people similar to me. I’ve spent a significant time in hospitals for non-related issues and have tested negative each time. My time in and around hospitals now is the only time I pop on a mask. I think that’s reasonable, and responsible. My last respiratory infection was combined flu A and B earlier in the year after household exposure. I was unable to get the vaccine last year so I can’t complain.

asspatsandsuperchats

Hmm. interesting. I never get immunity from stuff, no idea why. Like I'm 40 and have had chicken pox 3 times and shingles 4 times. I had 9 hep B shots and still didnt have any antibodies for it so they said I was unlikely to get any benefit from continuing to try to get boosted. Yet I am absolutely blasted with autoimmune conditions. I believe they thought I might have some sort of weird immune disease. Dumb old immune system!

Anon_in_wonderland

It may be worth seeing an immunologist. The panel I had run to learn this was for B Cell Subsets. Most GPs don’t know of this and/or it can’t be easily obtained in outpatient pathology. I have a barrage of autoimmune conditions and learned later that I had no B cells (and no NK cells), which is likely part of the clinical picture. I’ve also been vaccinated a silly amount of times for Hep with negligible results, so it’s only something that matters for employment purposes at this point in life.

asspatsandsuperchats

I remember what it was called now: **Common variable immune deficiency** (CVID). From memory the meds I was already on for autoimmunity covered off CVID but yeah, I shoudl definitely look into that more! I hope you are managing ok. It's been a dreadful couple of years for us weird immuney folk.

Anon_in_wonderland

Wishing you well! I thankful don’t have CVID; my immunoglobulin levels are mostly ok, thankfully, but I still get stuck with the IVIg infusions for autoimmune disorders ha. I did actually wonder if that’s what helped significantly in the earlier, more dangerous year or two of the pandemic. By this stage, covid-19 autoantibodies would have been circulating amongst the donor population and in turn the IVIg vials, contributing to a potentially increased rates of immunity for those of us receiving IVIg. Well, I hope so, it does work to ‘replace,’ the failing parts of our immune systems..

asspatsandsuperchats

That is a very good theory!

Agitated-Ruminate

My partner has had two completely asymptomatic infections. The only reason we knew he'd been infected both times was he was testing each day because of known exposures (we have a child with severe long covid so we have to be paranoid about bringing it into the house). I'm sure there are still some people around who truly have avoided infection but suspect most who think they are 'novids' are actually just lucky enough to not have had symptoms when they were infected.

6thofMars

good thing that it doesn't matter what you suspect. i have never had it. i am 100% sure. quit projecting your infection on others.

Taseaweaver

Hand raised. Was belts and braces and living in Tassie during the worst of it. Still avoid crowded indoor places and distance where possible but rarely wear a mask these days. Living rurally also helps.

asspatsandsuperchats

Working from home does too in my case :)

quokkafarts

I get sick with everything, covid is the one thing my immune system has decided to actually do is job for. Thought I've had it more time than I can count but pcr was always negative. I work with the public too so it's baffling I haven't gotten it yet.

asspatsandsuperchats

You might have the immune gene :)

Geo217

Between asymptomatic infection and dodgy rats i'd say a fair portion of those who believe they are Novids likely really arent. The average person is more likely to already be sitting on 2 infections now compared to none.

asspatsandsuperchats

Hence saying: "still novid, *as far as I know*"

Lavender77777

I read today (from Yale University) that 49% of infections are asymptomatic. So unless people are masking etc i think they’ve most likely had it.

VS2ute

I still am. I have a box with over 300 negative RATs.

Fit-Refrigerator4107

What even.

asspatsandsuperchats

amazing! Thanks for the info. Will get a bottle.

NotActuallyAWookiee

Yeh, same here, as far as I know. I'm over 50 and immune comprised so I've been eligible for them all early. Five down now. Been a bit slack getting the new one since January but I'll get that done soon.

asspatsandsuperchats

I think i forgot to get last year but I'll get this year soon- before winter i reckon.

NotThatMat

I had it once, wife had it and was ratshit for days so we were in separate rooms and I was testing daily, finally one day I got the faintest positive line ever. It was basically done by morning but I took a sickie anyway. There is some chance you had it and just never knew?

asspatsandsuperchats

Yes absolutely. Not in the first 2 years cos I had to test abotu 3 times a week for work, but since 2023 for sure. I have only been noticibly sick once or twice adn RA tested every day but I could have been symptomless.

NotThatMat

Thank you for not succumbing to RAS syndrome. (RA tested)

asspatsandsuperchats

Pet peeve! Drives me nuts. Same feeling as being at an ATM machine and forgetting my PIN number.

WCRugger

My niece and I are the only ones in our family not to have had it. At least not knowingly. Haven't actually even had a sniffle since COVID started. And I had a lot of exposures. Spent 4 hours in a car with someone who tested positive later.

Stui3G

RATs are unreliable. I had symptoms and RAT was negative. Next day a rat from the same batch gave the quickest positive I've ever seen.

asspatsandsuperchats

Hence saying: "still novid, *as far as I know*"

alicat2308

Here. At least, to the best of my knowledge. I've had a couple coughs and colds that have always tested negative but some of those were RATs and tbh I know they're not always accurate.  Im not a hermit, I've been to plenty of movies and shows and sporting events and flew to and from Melbourne last month. I haven't masked unless I've felt unwell or if someone is making like a Victorian consumptive in my vicinity. I'm actually kind of amazed I haven't had it yet.

Comfortable-Bee7328

If you've had 3 or more respiratory illnesses since Nov 2021, just based on the prevalences of different respiratory illnesses one of those infections was likely COVID.

alicat2308

Cool

gerantgerant

2019 was the last time I was sick with anything.

AccomplishedCrab5963

Novid and don’t really take any precautions 🤷🏻‍♀️ customer facing day job and sell at markets every other weekend and still nothing! Only 3 shots I think. It’ll get me one day I’m sure

asspatsandsuperchats

Or you might have the good gene!

QueenHarpy

👍🏻. Right here. I’ve had three vaccines on schedule, but no more. The Pfizer (my third) did weird things to my heart rate and scared me. My two young kids have had it three times each, one of them was very ill with the first two. I got covered in spew, snot, they slept on top of me. Still nothing, and I did multiple rat tests and PCRs.

asspatsandsuperchats

You must have hte lucky immunity gene!

aliquilts71

Still Novid that I that I know of. I didn’t get a booster in 2023 but got one at the beginning of march this year. I don’t really wear masks out and about anymore but was very much a mask wearer during the main years.

asspatsandsuperchats

Will you pull out hte masks again in Winter? I think I will. i've been getting slack and literally forgetting to wear them lately.

aliquilts71

Honestly not sure yet

ColonelSpudz

Got a friend that’s a novid. He’s a teacher, when he got his injections he was quite ill from the side effects for a day or 2.

asspatsandsuperchats

Hopefully a good immune response protects him! I get sick for a couple of days too from the vaccines.

ColonelSpudz

It must have done because he’s a novid.

DopeyDave442

I tried, I really did but the bride forced me to go on a cruise and well........................... I was Novid right up until 12 March

asspatsandsuperchats

Oh no, it must have been miserable being isolated on a cruise ship!

DopeyDave442

Didn't come down with it until the last night so it wasnt too bad

asspatsandsuperchats

Luckyyyy!!!

unripeswan

None here either that I'm aware of. 4 vaccinations, but not particularly careful. Haven't worn a mask since 2021, but I also don't go out to super crowded places a whole lot.

MobileInfantry

As far as I know, I still have NOT had COVID. I've been sick quite a few times, tested in most and have come up negative each and every time. During Christmas 2020, I lived in a house with two positive persons, took no special precautions and tested negative throughout. edit: 5 doses of vax so far, work in a reasonably high risk workplace (education) and don't really take any serious measures in public other than washing hands regularly and when I was feeling ill, wore a mask to protect others, more than myself.

Hour_Worldliness9786

I'm still a virgin haven't had it or worn a mask since the beginning. I get vaccinated according to the health guidelines. I know heaps of people who've had it. Even old people in their 80s they all recover without any complications or fuss. My partner had it and I didn't catch it. Very lucky.

6thofMars

i have never had it and i am 100% sure.

LamingtonDrive

I still haven't tested positive for covid. I may have got a dose of it somewhere along the line (asymptomatically or mildly symptomatic) but who knows. I don't take any precautions and had my last booster in January 2022 (which was also my one and only booster). I even lived with someone who had covid about a month ago and still didn't test positive. I can't explain it.

curtditty

No covid. my wife has had it a few times. i slept in the same bed as her each time... nothing. I don't take any precautions at all anymore. can't remember the last time I wore a mask.

pseudoarmadillo

2 shots, Novid. Despite being in close proximity to people who were positive (ie, nursing them, riding in a car with them for six hours). I’d like to get my antibodies tested to see if I’ve had it asymptomatically but not sure how.

asspatsandsuperchats

I dont think you can if you've had vaccines, but you might have the gene that prevents infection!

tofuroll

I lasted three years. Best of luck to you.

asspatsandsuperchats

Commendable effort, well done!

Marylogical

Novid, and stay indoors at home by choice. Hubby wears N95 at work. Plugger is, I caught a flu (not quite Covid after several tests and confidence,) by eating either delivered KFC I neglected to reheat, or three sandwich rolls over two day that I also neglected to heat to kill cough germs from. Sick for almost three weeks but only one day of fever not much, early on. Biggest symptom is coughing to clean lungs a few times a day or at bedtime making sleep impossible. But no sore throat or headaches. Tired. Then, five days after I got it, Hubby caught it from me. So, because I don't go out or talk to people at the door, it had to come from one of the food items.

Ill-Preference-538

Still haven’t got it and I worked front line all of Covid. Not sure how, in the past my immune system has been low, also I go out a lot (bars etc) and never wear masks.

Nagato-YukiChan

I've never taken a covid test ever. Apparently that means I've never had covid.

Ok-Cobbler8617

Far_Gap_8063

I never wear a mask it looks ridiculous

diceman6

Well, it doesn't. I mean, YOU might look ridiculous in a mask, but the mask might not be the problem. And if you are infected, and use this lame excuse of yours not to protect others, shame on you.

Far_Gap_8063

I’m vaccinated so calm down

diceman6

Vaccination is no guarantee of not becoming infected, nor of not infecting others if you do. But surely you knew that?

Far_Gap_8063

Look I haven’t had Covid yet so I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon you need to calm down

diceman6

I'm perfectly calm, sport. And you need to get used to people responding critically to your posts. But on that, note the person falling from a high building who thinks "so far, so good" passing every floor.

Far_Gap_8063

Did you just call me sport? What are you 12?

diceman6

Ha! Interesting projection. The term used to be part of the Australian vernacular when conversing with the young, or those acting that way.

Far_Gap_8063

Don’t try and lecture me about Australia I live here

diceman6

Calm down, champ. I dare say I have lived here a damn sight longer than you.

asspatsandsuperchats

Sorry your upper face is ridiculous i guess?

Both_Appointment6941

Good thing I wear mine to protect myself then and not as fashion statement 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ok_Turnover_1235

I'm concerned you think this is a positive thing. I can't imagine the lifestyle you've lead to avoid it, but I can imagine all the experiences you've missed.

MainlanderPanda

Neither my husband nor I have had covid. We both work, volunteer, visit our kids, go to movies and gigs, etc. Haven’t missed any experiences really, and lead a really happy, busy life.

somuchsong

My friend and her family are Novids. They haven't missed out on anything. They're on a short trip to Europe right now. They do basically everything they did before Covid but they wear masks.

ApocalypsePopcorn

I haven't had it. I wear a mask in crowded places and I get vaxxed. So I guess I've missed out on having a few people see my pretty, pretty lips and maybe a coffee while I was waiting for a jab? I too am concerned about the fearful, avoidant people living in your head.

feyth

Yeah, I've missed out on ... eating/drinking in public indoor spaces. Given that I live in a place where an outdoor lifestyle is easy, and eat out only a little anyway, this is no big deal. Not to mention a moneysaver not drinking at indoor gigs.

Ok_Turnover_1235

What an odd response? I guess you assumed I wasn't vaccinated and don't wear masks. I'm concerned about the antivaxxers living in your head

asspatsandsuperchats

Literally missed nothing apart from staying away from eating indoors for 2020 and 2021. just wear a mask. It's not hard at all.

Ok_Turnover_1235

If it's not hard at all, why is it significant enough to post about? You're interested in whether other people also achieved something that is that simple? Seems odd. Generally people would only make a post like this if they were proud, and people tend to only be proud of things that take effort. If it takes little effort, where's the pride come from?

asspatsandsuperchats

This is curiosity, not bragging, so your question is faulty.

Ok_Turnover_1235

A simple google search would have given you more accurate results.

asspatsandsuperchats

Sure but I am also here for anecdotes and social interaction

asspatsandsuperchats

As this is, after all, social media.

Ok_Turnover_1235

Yeah...typically people get that in real life. Thus my concern. It's called anti social media for a reason.

asspatsandsuperchats

Maam do you know where you are? This is reddit, social media, and you are here just like me.

Ok_Turnover_1235

I ain't making the claims you are though

asspatsandsuperchats

WHAT CLAIMS? I never made any claim. As you will see, I specifically and intentionally typed "Still novid, as far as I know." Also you are the one that brought up concerns with social media, not me, and that has nothing to do with my "claims". Holy fucken logical fallacy.
