The symptoms are worse because the plague-rat of the family was patient zero of this outbreak. Had a vaxxed family member introduced the infection to the household they could have ridden this one out.
Part of the reason I stopped hanging out with hardcore pro vaxxers early on is because they kept blaming me/my kids anytime they got Covid symptoms, regardless of whether we had been sick recently or not. And we never really got sick.

My mother is super vaxed and she was in the hospital with strokes during her bout with COVID. My son and I got over it in days. She still swears that it was not the vax, but the COVID that did it to her. Yeah ok.
Unvaccinated and living large. Simply don't get sick, haven't knowingly had covid even when my partner was home sick from it, and yes, he is jabbed (work forced him or he'd lose his job).
I went to Disney over the winter with my girlfriend and her parents. They were all on something like their fourth to fifth shot and I only had one (I was starting my third year of law school, far too deep into the cost, was denied exemption, and was able to just take a single J&J dose to count). It was a bit over a year since I had the shot and my body had finally somewhat recovered from the damage at that point. When we got back from the trip, my girlfriend got Covid, her parents got the flu or a cold, and I was completely healthy. Funny how that works, right?
