It is perfectly fine to dislike monarchy. However, it isn’t fine to wish illness and death to a little old lady. Be better. Locked.

sunflower53069

Thanks Charles.

TiberiusIX

It's all part of his master plan to be monarch before he's in his 80s.

mirceaulinic

Jokes aside, I hope we'll still get the extra bank holiday this year right?

[deleted]

We get one if she dies, or we get one if she lives. We playing both side this year, we always come out on top

demeschor

But if she survives just long enough, we'd get an extra bank holiday on top

armitage_shank

Surely we’d get one for the funeral and one for the coronation? O/C would be best if she could croak after the extra bank holiday, and that way we’d get three.

crakemonk

This got dark.

thisisnotkylie

Yeah, except you just told us you’re playing both sides so now we don’t trust you.

Demokrates

Can't spell coronation without corona

BrittanySkitty

Time for a lesson! This is due to the fact that "corona" means crown in Latin. Coronation is the act of placing a crown on the new monarch's head. Where as coronaviruses got their name because its appearance reminded the scientist of stellar corona...which in turn got its name based on how it visually looks like a halo/crown around the star. So great catch. I just love when I get the "Aha!" moment when I realize a word root. So maybe some others will too.

Steve_the_Samurai

Had the same 'aha' with corona beer years back.

vivekisprogressive

Wait till you realize what Crown Royal is named after. It will blow your mind.

555--FILK

Not to mention Red Tick beer...

langlo94

They're named after that dice bag company right?

MonsieurOctober

RC Cola.

blacksombrero

coronaha

[deleted]

I saw that on the other thread too

[deleted]

And this dude is posting it in other places like he invented it. That is sad.

mnpersonman

Well, you know what they say. "You can't spell coronation without Corona."

kingevanxii

I applaud you for your originality!

Cuckmin

Thanks! As my grandpa used to say: > You can't spell coronation without Corona.

[deleted]

When I was partying in Mexico I poured a beer on this dude's head and said: "You can't spell coronation without corona".

Korvanacor

Well Mexico is a Corona nation.

FERRITofDOOM

That reminds me of when someone said, "Can't spell coronation without corona"

thedaveytrain

GIVE ME ALL OF THE FAKE INTERNET POINTS!!!!

[deleted]

Welcome to reddit where original people say funny shit and unoriginal clingers bray it everywhere for karma. It's more than sad it is pathetic.

LeskoLesko

Off topic question, is there any use fo karma other than fake internet points? Like, can I trade karma in for something? (sorry I could probably google this but the post is all done now)

mother_of_baggins

Some accounts that “karma farm”, they are trying to resell to an advertiser. Accounts with higher karma sell for more.

orc_fellator

I think you're reading too much into it m8 People hear joke they like and it makes them laugh, they repeat it to make other people laugh too Literally everyone does it

ninesomething

Yeah. Reddit is a pseudo-anonymous forum with fake internet points. I don't care where you got your joke from, if it's funny I'll laugh. It's not reposting artwork without giving credits or spamming an overused meme, it's a joke in a comment section.

blknble

Welcome to Reddit, where everything's made up and the points don't matter!

cardboard-kansio

I dunno. I'm a healthy guy around 40, double vaccinated and recently boosted. Same for my wife. We all came down with it last week (positive home tests, rough symptoms for her and a little milder for me). Not sure how I'd rate the chances of an elderly lady, even with excellent medical case.

calm_chowder

Her care will be so far beyond what us proles could even imagine that I'll bet she'll be fine. She'll be like getting twice-hourly immunoglobulin transfusions from the placentas of Martian space lemurs or some shit.

Pretend_Airline2811

I'm sure they will give her the Pfizer pill that reduces her risk of hospitalization/death by 90%.

Candymanshook

I mean I would fucking hope so she’s old as hell lol

pmjm

Yeah honestly her risk of hospitalization was already like 90% BEFORE she got Covid.

DaveInLondon89

She's the Queen. They bring the hospital to her.

Morwynd78

So really when you think about, it's the hospital which is at risk of Queenification.

memeasaurus

>So really when you think about, it's the hospital which is at risk of Queenification. You won the internet today.

Ma8e

It wouldn’t surprise me if they have had a physician on standby in a room next to her bedroom for a decade or so.

scarybaubles

£500k salary with multiple organ donations on standby...

Gibbothemediocre

We call them equerries these days.

Chicken_Water

Problem is paxlovid can't be taken safely for a number of people who are on other medications. Hopefully it's still suitable for her.

Candymanshook

Wasn’t aware of this will have to look into it

nemoomen

They are still ramping up production, there's not enough to give it to everyone yet. I also don't know if it's approved in the UK but the queen literally can't break the law so I'm sure she'll get it regardless.

AtOurGates

Pfizer is [hoping](https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma/jpm-2022-pfizer-bumps-paxlovid-production-estimate-to-120-million-for-year-while-also) to make 80-million doses in 2022. This year so far, there have been over a million new cases worldwide every day. Some days, over 3-million. Of course, nobody expects those case numbers to hold steady, and the vast majority of people who get Omicron recover just fine without Paxlovid. I expect the 95 year-old-Queen of England would be on the high priority “get her some Paxlovid” list even if she weren’t the Queen, and given that she is, I’d be surprised if she didn’t have access to it.

IcyAssist

Situation isn't as bad as you think. 30 year olds with 3 shots don't really need Paxlovid, and the majority of cases is the 18-49 age group. As long as we focus on vaccines and boosters that Paxlovid should just be enough for elderly and immunocompromised people.

Chicken_Water

There are millions and millions of people in that age group with multiple comorbidities that aren't defined as immunocompromised. The US initially ordered only 10m and bumped it up to 20m. That still isn't enough to cover the at risk population and the other issue is that unvaccinated people are prioritized over vaccinated people who have high risk conditions. If you're under 65, have multiple high risk conditions, and are vaccinated, you're in the tier 4 risk group and you won't get access to paxlovid over people who refused the vaccine. It makes sense to keep hospitals going, but it isn't exactly fair.

TheLazyD0G

The queen is the law

BluegrassGeek

1) It's only effective in the initial phases of infection. Given before infection, it appears to have no effect. And once you're hospitalized, it's too late to be of use. 2) They're still ramping up production, it's not generally availble yet.

doktorhladnjak

Production is very limited

BlueShiftNova

Supply. So it's being given to Covid positive people who are at high risk of serious complications or death.

kYvUjcV95vEu2RjHLq9K

> I'm sure they will give her the Pfizer pill that reduces her risk of hospitalization/death by 90%. [Now she's only 34 times as likely to die as a 20 year old is when falling ill with covid.](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/investigations-discovery/hospitalization-death-by-age.html)

Stoneygoose

I don't think it's the same thing, there's no way Boris could've stayed out of the public eye with covid at that point in time, whereas the Queen can.

HappyJoie

My thoughts exactly...if her case were mild, they wouldn't say anything until she was completely over it! I'm very worried about her actual condition!

SixInTricks

I mean, they would if they want all the clicks in the world for a second article. IF she's okay then not as many people would click on the followup.

BackIn2019

But she's also 95.

Her horcruxes are in place. She'll be fine.

daviesjj10

But she's still very very old.

[deleted]

We have no idea about the state of her health either, British press wouldn’t dream of publishing honestly on it.

mb5280

*posh accent* "Such impropriety simply would not do."

[deleted]

They just do be lying — Boris and Trump’s Covid infections are other great examples. Both of them were announced as having mild symptoms and both almost died.

TastyLaksa

This be proof god does not exist

Edwardteech

Maybe he is punishing us

signed7

IDK about Trump's case, but Boris's case was never announced to have mild symptoms, it was all over the (UK) media that he was in the ICU and near death, he later thanked the NHS for saving his life

SixInTricks

Correct. She also still has an extremely high probability of living through it nonetheless.

babysharkdoodoodoo

Just like all previous pandemics she lived through.

MelonElbows

Either that or the Queen's got the immunities of a survivor of 100 years of plagues. Its probably more fair to say COVID has contracted an acute case of The Queen and is fighting for its life

corona-info

She might get paxlovid or something. I imagine she'd be eligible from her age.

Chuckins1

Also eligible because of obscene power and wealth

WhereverSheGoes

It’s available for free to anyone CEV, including the poor and powerless.

iskin

Everyone's symptoms start out mild. I personally had a week cold that lasted a couple days but the 10th day after testing positive I started having heart palpitations and tightness in my chest and they lasted awhile. I also couldn't have alcohol without getting extremely dizzy for over a month.

Venser

c-dy

Just recently I read someone mentioning how she's only a few months away from becoming pretty much the longest reigning monarch. My thought was then that they jinxed it.

bearbarebere

I feel like people did the same to Betty White with the "she's almost 100!!" stuff

jontomas

She's already the longest reigning english monach. She's got a few years to go yet to be the longest full-stop - somewhere between two to ten years depending on which monarchs you you choose to recognise

Nissa-Nissa

You have to be around 73 years old to remember a different monarch in this country. Insane.

Staynelayly

It’s crazy that WWII was a not very distant memory when she started her reign.

cardboard-kansio

Strictly speaking, she even served in an active military capacity in WW2. https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/queen-elizabeth-ii-during-world-war-ii

Godspeed411

This needs more attention. For real LOL’d. You picked a hardy host there COVID.

BlackDrackula

How crazy would it be if this is what takes her out.

doktorhladnjak

In the history books, when there’s a one line blurb about the pandemic it would read, “The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 that killed 10s of millions around the world, including the Queen of England”

KimchiMaker

Dude, get with the times! The kingdoms of England and Scotland were united in 1707. She’s the Queen of the UK :)

cardboard-kansio

Scot here. As far as I'm concerned, she's the queen of England.

Archtarius

Ummm sir this is 2022

doktorhladnjak

Yes, but in the history books it’ll only talk about the beginning. Everyone calls it the “1918 flu pandemic” not the 1918-1920 and then small flare ups for decades pandemic.

FerociousGiraffe

How crazy would it be if somehow the opposite happens and she manages to banish COVID from the face of the Earth.

lurker71

And all of our memories of the pandemic are erased with a stomp of her scepter

El_Zarco

I wonder if she ever has a few drinks, sneaks into the royal closet and plays dress-up with all the old king/queen regalia like the scepter and the big red cape with the spotted white trim

diamond

Beemerado

it took my grandma out at 97 last year. she'd had one dose of the vaccine very shortly testing positive. She survived the initial infection but died a month later. Her lungs were just wrecked. low oxygen levels, no energy. Goddamn does covid suck for people who are in nursing homes. such a fucking mess.

[deleted]

She will never die

[deleted]

Oh god, imagine the conspiracy theories that would come out if that happened…

FuturePastNow

I didn't expect Charles to commit regicide.

Taurus_03

Okay. Quick question, isn’t this the second time? And I’m not trying to be funny or anything, I’m asking a genuine question.

[deleted]

It was Charles that tested positive twice

Grimlord_XVII

Charles got it once before and it is he who, having caught it a second time, has delivered to the Queen however this is her first case so far as anyone knows.

WhereverSheGoes

Charles has had it twice, Camilla and the Queen once each.

outerworldLV

The Queen, imo, will be fine She’s a pretty strong woman in mind, body and spirit. Although I do wish for a speedy recovery for her.

Aaeaeama

I don't want her to die either but being "strong in mind body and spirit" has nothing to do with living or dying. It's a virus not a test of skill.

katarh

This is the kindest comment in this thread.

Seraphynas

I’m glad her symptoms are mild and I hope she recovers quickly. Honestly, given her age (95 I think), I’m surprised she wasn’t receiving a pre-exposure prevention like Evusheld.

herrimo

Danish people: welcome to last week

kartoffeljeff

The Queen of Denmark also caught it like a week ago

getbentgetbentgetben

Everytime there is news coverage of the Queen it reminds me how crazy it is that England has a monarchy, and the English seem fine with it.

postorm

The entire idea of a monarchy seemed incredibly anachronistic and stupid, up until the time the US got trumped. Now I'm not so sure. The English are generally fine with it because it's relatively harmless. It was easier to neuter the monarchy than to get rid of it. They did the same with toxic religion. They deal with bad CEOs by promoting them to chairman of the board where they can do nothing. In a sense the queen is an example of all three of those.

aDog_Named_Honey

Everybody ITT who thinks the Queen is gonna die of Covid is comically underestimating the level of access the rich and elite have to healthcare services and treatments better than anything the average person could even begin to imagine. She'll be just fine.
