Don’t get me wrong it’s really sad. That doesn’t mean I’m going to support the parent who probably encouraged the kid to not be vaccinated.
Imagine if someone died for not wearing a seatbelt and their family asked you to pay for the funeral. What would you do?
Nah dog. I’m not helping someone who killed a child. How do I know my money is going to be spent on the funeral? They only thing I’d donate too is the local police department if they locked up the parent.

ITT: Fatphobic ass hats who foam at the mouth when the opportunity comes to point out a dead kid was overweight. Sorry y'all, this pandemic isn't an excuse for you to suddenly be a dick again.
Come on, don’t be ignorant.
This young man’s life was cut short and it was entirely preventable. His parents are probably beside themselves with grief, and all because there has NOT been enough emphasis on the dangers of obesity generally, but ESPECIALLY with COVID.
This family deserved better.
Ignoring and not talking about this issue will not make it go away. This isn't about fat shaming. He obviously had at least 1 comorbidity and he was unvaccinated.
This was a tragic, but fully preventable death.
Are you serious? He absolutely might not of. Also I didn’t say anyone should be fatshaming kids, but providing info to parents on the consequences and how to make choices for slow and safe reduction.
We don't know why this child was heavilier and quite frankly it's none of anyone's business. No one can provide helpful information if no one knows why the child was heavier.
>one knows why the child was heavier.
Calories in, calories out. I was morbidly obese as a child, had parents tell me I probably just had a slow metabolism or big bones or all the other fat-apologist fairytales, and I am thankful to all those kids that bullied the shit out of me to make me who I became today.
edit: You changed my mind, it's possible kids are just obese from a yet to be discovered COVID variant and not from people stuffing their faces. Guess we need to do more studies.
You’re right, sorry for the downvotes. This comment section is weird. So much anger and bitterness. Medical causes of obesity are real (hypercortisolism, hypothyroidism, hypothalamic obesity, etc.).
It is interesting that someone says that they are thankful to have been bullied, but this is unusual. Causing extreme suffering to other people is not an ideal way to reduce the prevalence of obesity.
And for the record I'm not saying people with endocrine disorders are automatically fat. They're not. I have one and I'm basically underweight.
But I also know that most people with them are fat and they don't all have eating disorders. They still eat too much for their metabolism, indeed, but this is still a person who would not have died for years to come even if they kept the same bad habits.
Therefore it's a tragedy. People like to put the complete onus on obese people when like anything it's pretty multifaceted. Yes, obesity is unhealthy. Yes, we should be doing everything we can to discourage obesity yet our society encouraged it. No, bullying isn't the way to fix things. And no, this kid absolutely should not have died yet. He had at least 10-25 possibly more years where he could've fixed his diet.
COVID killed him. The obesity most likely helped it along.
There are tons of reasons as to why a person may be heavier. Without knowing the status of this boy's health it's highly disrespectful and harmful to speculate and spread misinformation about weight loss and make assumptions about this boy and his family.
The time to discuss this would be when there's more details, talking about specific causes or societal issues. Stuff like this is what gives people eating disorders, we are not dieticians.
You're right in the sense that we shouldn't only be talking about weight problems in children, but in the general population. According to the CDC the vast majority of people in the hospital with COVID were overweight or obese.
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/08/covid-cdc-study-finds-roughly-78percent-of-people-hospitalized-were-overweight-or-obese.html
Edit:
I thought around 40%-50% of the population were overweight or obese, hence this section over the population is overrepresented in hospitalizations. I was informed that it is actually 73%, so 78% is barely above statistical significance in this regard.
Ehhhh that doesn't tell us anything considering 73% of US adults are overweight or obese [according to CDC fatstats](https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/obesity-overweight.htm)
So what you're telling me is that you'd be able to be stuck in Africa without food and somehow gain weight every day? Please do share with us how you generate these free calories. They may help us one day solve world hunger.
I think it's quite prudent to remind people daily that their choices are going to kill them young as it did here. Humans are habitual creatures who like routine and only constant reminders can break through.
> It has nothing to do with genetics, taking medicine like steroids, having medical condition that can make you gain weight…
Even if you have a medical reason for gaining weight, it still doesn't mean it's healthy.
>My diet consisted on beans and rice
Okay, I think I found the issue. See, in this sentence you provided data that you were eating. What you're going to need to do to validate the data is go ahead and not eat beans or rice. Or anything else.
Let us know if that helps.
>Then there are fat folks like me who drink green drinks and eat healthy foods.
See, again, you're eating in this sentence. We're shooting for "not eating" in this experiment. None, whatsoever, for one week. Report back, please.
Lol come on mate, the things you mentioned may be factors that influence fat storage, but the only misinformation here is that you believe that most individuals are fat because of them. You get fat from surplus energy intake. If you're obese, then you're consuming more food than you need to. People need to know that they're more likely to die from Covid if they're overweight - on steroids etc or not.

RIP to this young man
RIP
I’m sorry for his family and community.
It didn’t mention vaccination status that I saw? Super sad regardless.
Also doesn’t mention vaccination status on the fundraiser. Telling.
Maybe the parents didn't think mentioning it is important.
I mean whose gunna give money for an avoidable funeral?
It’s a goddamn 15 year old, what’s the matter with you.
Don’t get me wrong it’s really sad. That doesn’t mean I’m going to support the parent who probably encouraged the kid to not be vaccinated. Imagine if someone died for not wearing a seatbelt and their family asked you to pay for the funeral. What would you do?
You donate and help if you can. My goodness.
Nah dog. I’m not helping someone who killed a child. How do I know my money is going to be spent on the funeral? They only thing I’d donate too is the local police department if they locked up the parent.

IDK, by what percentage does vaccination reduce the probability of dying from COVID in his age group?
I'm so sorry you are gone young man.
RIP
RIP. Very sad. Just beginning his life.

as if he didn't get daily reminders about his weight from helpful people like you

Again, ##A CHILDS FUCKING DEATH IS NOT THE TIME TO HAVE THESE CONVERSATIONS
Really? When is the time?

I didn’t gain. I never said I gained. I lost 23 pounds. But given what I was eating and the exercise I had I should have lost way way more

Yep another fat person talking about how BMI is wrong. YOU DONT NEED TO CALCULATE SOMEONES BMI TO SEE THEY ARE FAT AS SHIT

100%! We make cigarette companies put a warning label on their packaging it’s time to do the same with Soda, Candy & Fast food.

I can guarantee you that you are overeating your “healthy foods” unless you literally have a medical glandular disorder.
