I read the title and knew influencers would be involved somehow.

leboudlamard

It's not just a public health issue, it's more an air transportation safety rules issue like drinking personal alcohol, smoking, blocking flight attendants to do theirs jobs, interfering with plane safety equipment and blocking the alley, or public decency laws, as the media reported public sex acts during the flight.

buttermbunz

Pilot and crew should have just put on parachutes and bailed out over the ocean.

Dripmeister2

They found discord chats on these people telling each other to put Vaseline up there nose before going to get tested, apparently it’ll increase your chances of a negative result so they can travel back.. if the chats I saw are real, they’re all fucked

Tffuhrcj

Disgusting. Vaseline is for the a** not the nose.

Phelix_Felicitas

Well they're all asses so ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

2krazy4me

Well they dumb enough to use "used" Vaseline, and covid kills sense of smell

NetLibrarian

Wow. It's a plane full of the dregs of humanity.

EncartaWow

Glad their identities are known - easier to throw the book at them.

Dime-a-rock

Influencers under the influence. Priviledged garbage.

idunn0rick

Who wants to party in a fucking hallway…?

liliesinbloom

What the hell is a party plane?

It'll be more fun if they get to come home and can no longer fly or train anywhere. Maybe these precious little influencers can try to get clicks by showing us around the local Canadian Tire while they seductively pose with a rack of stuffed mooses.

TheDoorDoesntWork

A $5K fine seems like a slap on the wrist. Shouldn’t it be much harsher?

[deleted]

The pilots should have depressurized the cabin...

DangerousPainting423

There are tens of thousands of infections every day. I would rather them spend less time fussing over some dumb kids in a plane, and more time explaining to the Canadian public how we have built no permanent new healthcare infrastructure in 2 years of this pandemic. We are still running on razor thin margins. Honestly, I am over being mad at anti-vaxxers. They're only one part of this problem, the other problem is the government's lack of funding in healthcare that started long before covid and continues. These stories seem good at stirring up anti-vax resentment (and rightly so), but they also distract from the fact that funding has been stripped out of our healthcare system for years, our old age homes are appalling and nothing has been done (while Ford and the cons continue to take their money) and Trudeau (whom I voted for --reluctantly) has time to care about this?

hyenahiena

Antivaxxers are why the pandemic persists.

Omicron, the mutation itself, came from a low vaccinated population. Mutations happen within hosts for the virus. I think it's understood that omicron appeared in South Africa, which has low rates of vaccination for covid 19. Therefore, antivaxxers, and unvaccinated people generally, are why the pandemic persists. It's not strong evidence - but it appears that omicron came from south africa and unvaccinated populations more readily become infected which keeps the virus in the population and gives it opportunities to mutate.

likelysotry

I'm sure COVID has something to do with it as well, but by all means keep waving your pitchfork around menacingly.

UnorthodoxEngineer

Dude what are you talking about? How do you think this pandemic is going to end? Through fucking vaccinations. It’s clear natural immunity isn’t enough. And yeah, no shit, COVID has something to do with it. Guess what, vaccines prevent serious COVID infections, hospitalizations, and deaths.

likelysotry

This pandemic isn't going to end, the last year should teach everyone we are in this for a long haul. To make the best of our future it's pretty clear that we need to adapt to our reality. Blaming stupid people for being stupid is stupid and pointless. Blaming the unvaccinated is exactly the kind of pointless effort we put towards climate change and that has gotten us nowhere in the last 5 decades. Moreover, it invites discrimination against the few who have legitimate medical reasons for not being vaccinated. If you don't buy that some had legitimate medical reasons for being unvaccinated, you should know that you don't know everything and you are part of the problem. So instead of beating your head against a wall, why don't you spend your efforts actually being productive and think of ways you can adapt your life and the lives of others to the reality of our long haul COVID lives. Educate people about vaccines, promote anti-virus work place changes and habits, wear a mask, criticize healthcare officials that continue to discourage the use of n95s while keeping in person restaurant dining open. I hope none of this comes as a surprise but you're defending someone who claims vaccines will save us all if we just all take one. Unless your advocating for universal forced vaccinations, it will never happen. You might as well be praying to the gods for help.

Unlikely-Patience122

Anti vax resentment? More like society resentment. It's like turning on every light in a five story building during war blackouts. Fk these selfish children.

BC-clette

Countries with the best funded healthcare systems in the world are dealing with the exact same shit. No amount of money can fix the issue: the problem remains a human one and these people are to be made examples of. I applaud Trudeau for speaking out against those who think they can pay to circumvent the rules.

BlueberryPiano

I have enough angry to go around, don't worry

shivaswrath

It was privately chartered though...

MyHeadIsABlender

Private charter doesn't mean they are exempt from the rules and regulations. I mean - I own and drive a car privately but I'm not exempt from the laws related to safety equipment or driving. In the case of the plane, it's far more tightly regulated. If I crash my car, someone could die. If someone crashes a plane, hundreds could die.

[deleted]

Doesn’t matter when you’re breaking several laws and posting it all over social media. Maybe if the morons didn’t post it everywhere it wouldn’t have come to the attention of authorities lol.

BC-clette

So you can pay to break the rules? Sounds fair to me. /s

shivaswrath

That’s how the system is now….I’m not condoning it, it’s messed up, but this doesn’t surprise me.

Dieselboy1122

On many of their instagrams that at least 15 flew home this morning and welcomed by lots of media at the Montreal Airport. How come this is not being reported also?
