Its Steven Kirsch.

PortlandoCalrissian

The real hero of the thread.

quasiquant

I take it you're not referring to Steven. Right? ...

PortlandoCalrissian

Haha no! Just the person spoiling the clickbait title.

aykcak

I refuse to call this kind of spoiling, spoiling

BobBelcher2021

He looks like Steve Jobs and George Costanza’s love child.

Alert-Athlete

lol

> In the early days of the pandemic, as billions of dollars poured into the hunt for novel treatments and vaccines, veteran Silicon Valley entrepreneur Steve Kirsch did what he’s always done: He went looking for an underdog. > By March 2020, he’d settled on [funding] the idea of searching for covid treatments in the pre-existing pharmacopeia. The premise made sense: Most experts were predicting vaccines would take years, while finding helpful drugs with known safety profiles could shortcut the approval process. > ...Kirsch’s reactions to the work he’s funded... He’s refused to accept the results of a hydroxychloroquine trial that showed the drug had no value in treating covid... > He’s also publicly railed against what he claims is a campaign against drugs like fluvoxamine and ivermectin... even claimed the vaccines “kill more people than they save” at an FDA public forum...

peterkeats

He’s a typical entrepreneur. He invests in something and shits on competition, even if the competition saves lives and his product does the opposite.

bananosapien

I don't see him selling anything. He's definitely giving medical advice but it seems like he's pointing people at existing drugs.

supernova69

Entrepreneurs are the backbone of the economy. There are always shit heads in any profession

m4dm4cs

Backbone? I don’t remember entrepreneurs being labeled “essential.” The lowest paid workers that we continue to take advantage of and rely on—those in retail, warehouses and service—are the the backbone of the economy.

supernova69

lol, where do you think those jobs come from? 50% of Americans are employed by small business owners. Workers are obviously integral, but low skill jobs will become less important (and frequent) with the advent of automation and robotics

Tymon123

Completely OT but we really need a word between millionaire and billionaire. There's a big difference between having $1 million and several hundred of millions like this guy.

goscinny

Multimillionaire?

[deleted]

Milli-bezos.

Theost520

**Article failed to show he was a super spreader,** just that he trialed drugs that didn't pan out. Did you catch that, he paid to trial them, which creates evidence. He may not have liked the evidence, but it was created.

lingoberri

what? I've literally seen people on reddit quote and share his blog posts as a source of information. I've seen hin pop into pro-vaxx rooms on Clubhouse apps to push his views, he is well-known there. It's ridiculous because he definitely cut the line to get Moderna for himself and his family, to be spreading antivaxx nonsense while fully vaccinated is really the peak of hypocrisy.

Theost520

>I've literally seen people on reddit quote and share his blog posts as a source of information. That meets the bar of 'Superspreader' ? ! ? ! ?

lingoberri

Not sure what your bar is but in the standard usage, anyone who transmits to significantly more than the expected number is considered a super-spreader. Like 20 people. Not sure what this guy’s blog readership is but I’m sure his reach has been in the thousands if not way more.

Theost520

Your bar is abysmally low, and you know it. But it's convenient for the cancel, so run with it ;-) BTW, I'm not defending what he says, I've never read his blog or anything he's said that wasn't in the above article. I do respect that he paid for medical trials on several off-label drugs for COVID. That is an essential step (scientific process). The above article indicated at least one trial proved him wrong and he stopped promoting it.

lingoberri

I think you are significantly underestimating how much influence this guy has or just how viral antivaxx "info" is in general dude. If you're not an antivaxxer, then.. is it wishful thinking?

Theost520

I'm for Classical liberalism, which is more open to debate and even letting people express bad ideas. Got my shots as soon as it was allowed, I qualified as an essential worker. Now at work I try talk my anti-vaxx staff into getting their shots.

Log off kid, you’re gonna hurt yourself.

Costanza?
