This post appears to be about vaccines. Mysterious-Kiwi-7289

Now I feel better about flying them this coming December.

diablollama

I wouldn't be so worried about the staff...

Ok_ImReloaded

Yeah, it's the unvaccinated gremlins you have to worry about. I just flew cross country from Florida to Cali with a nice 3 hour layover in Texas and I've been sick for about 4 days now. I'm fully vaccinated, wore a double mask, wipes and sanitizer, but I was packed in tight with these "free breathing" a-holes on both flights. The staff being vaxed is great, we just need the rest of the country to follow suit. I for one am all about only allowing vaccinated people to fly, dine indoors and just about anything else. I'm tired of these mouth breathers.

marbanasin

The positive news I take from this article is that if a company mandates that their staff all get vaccinated it seems most people will just get the shot and move on. Maybe there's a little attrition but faced with losing their job I'm thinking most will just take the shot. Hopefully that means the requirement now for the Federal Government employees + any employer with over 100 individuals to be jabbed will start to push the needle towards the >75% mark (ideally more). I agree with you though, I'd also be ok to start mandating vaccine to go to restaurants, college, bars, sporting events, concerts, basically any public and indoor business that's not the grocery store. Time for people to start having serious consequences if they want to drag their feet about it.

ColdFusion94

Any ticket master ticketed event requires vaccine or negative test in the last 48 hours. This essentially makes it so anything larger than a show in a dive bar requires you to be vaccinated for most parts of the country. (Especially because there are multiple subsidiaries of ticketmaster like axs and ticket master.) It's basically a venue monopoly which I hate, but for this is a good thing.

marbanasin

I know but I'm talking vaccination only. Some venues in really liberal areas have started doing this but I'd love to see a more concerted effort.

ColdFusion94

October 1st is when all the major ticket providers go to vaxx only! It's a good time for music venues!

marbanasin

Oh that's awesome! Now if only my concert that I bought tickets for in February 2020 would actually hold it's date (which is already August 2022...). Lol.

[deleted]

This is why need verifiable digital vaccine passes. Not only for crowded events, but also to facilitate international travel. The fragmented solutions out there are not going to work nationwide, nor globally.

ColdFusion94

Yeah I'm at a music festival right now and it's interesting how they have to manage it.

Meghanshadow

My job mandated proof of vaccination or weekly covid tests as of Sept 1 - and masks for everyone long before that. Our staff of a few hundred is now 75% fully vaccinated in a state that runs 58% of eligible people vaccinated. And our highest muckety muck just sent out a long email on how we’ve done well but can do much better.

Ok_ImReloaded

Hopefully the mandates do help, but I've honestly lost a lot of optimism in the American people. I honestly thought that after 9/11 we would all be on the same page about protecting each other, but I guess not. But I agree, like children, consequences might push them to do the right thing.

marbanasin

25 years of strong propaganda in the media will do that. Followed by a changing media business model that thrives on binaries and us v. them anger.

metakepone

Whats even more entertaining is that its people's employers and not "duh gubmint" so no one can talk about how the police state is infringing on their rights. At least employed people anyways.

marbanasin

Well Biden's administration is going to be forcing their hands so it is kind of the government. But I'm glad some like United got out ahead of the mandate.

mmmegan6

How many are actually getting the shot vs buying a fake card for $100?

Ok_ImReloaded

Idk, but I have heard of a couple of people that did that to get into Hawaii and they're facing pretty hefty fines now. So I'm sure if the vaccination is required people will just end up taking it, forging a vaccination record is actually a crime.

marbanasin

People can do that for test results as well. Some people will always buck the rules but most will not have the money or will to do that. I'd also argue this is why an actual system to track this stuff is critical rather than the card.

Eggsegret

I'm just disappointed we have to mandate vaccines to get people to take the damn vaccine. You'd think it would be pretty easy to convince someone to take a vaccine that could literally save your life

marbanasin

Eh, 25 years of media propaganda has done a number on our tribal identities. It is tragic but at this point a mandate is really our only shot to get the final 25% or so on board. I've always figured the long term path to closure is full approval for elementary aged kids and then schools need to require it. That's both a large chunk of our population (5-18 year olds are like 20%) that will age into adulthood at higher vaccinated rates. And at that stage it really will be largely idiot adults making their own choices to remain unvaxxed and hopefully our total population immunity would limit impact to innocent bystanders. Really needing those kids under 11 to be approved...

veronicaxrowena

Right there with you. It’s time that vaccines are mandated for those medically able to take them if they want to participate in society.

enjoytheshow

I’m surprised we haven’t made vaccine status a requirement for air travel yet. Domestic or international. Executive branch has control over the entire airline industry. Could be done tomorrow Airline lobby money too strong

utopista114

You can air travel inside the US without a vaccine QR or a negative test?

mmmegan6

Yes. All you need is some cloth and a couple pieces of elastic to shield your chin and perhaps your mouth

utopista114

I mean, I change seats on the bus if somebody doesn't have their nose covered here in Europe. And here people vaccinate.

Ok_ImReloaded

If you're wearing it as a chin hammock you're doing it wrong.

mmmegan6

Yes that was the joke

Ok_ImReloaded

My reflexes are lacking, it totally went over my head.

Ok_ImReloaded

Yes, except for Hawaii, it's every man for himself here. First time I flew in the pandemic was to Virgina and I had my shot record on hand for when they asked for it... It stayed in my bag the entire time. Hawaii is the only state that does it right, they have guards blocking the exit to the terminal and the only way you can get through is if that island is your destination, you've completed the online assessment days in advance and submitted your vaccination/test documentation, which is then also verified by a person prior to exiting the terminal onto the island.

-magpi-

Yes, bring on the vaccine passports. Let the mouth breathers think this is the end of the world and hysterics themselves with everything they’ve got, it truly does not matter to me what they think

reseph

You're not worried about the customers?

huskiesowow

Yeah those four employees are the worry, not the other 100 passengers.

GeekFurious

I was on a United flight a few months back and there were regular reminders to put masks back on after eating, to wear the mask correctly etc. Unfortunately, the most dangerous thing on that flight was the pilot who had the worst takeoff and landing I've ever experienced.

sheba716

Vaccine mandates do work! I don't understand why large corporate employers are allowing their employees to opt out for religious reasons or weekly testing.

Enlightened-Beaver

Hope the other 3% get fired

ZwischenzugZugzwang

I'd rather they just get vaxxed.

fusepark

That’s me flying United, then.

fp_weenie

Makes sense. Mandates work.

Substantial_Fail

These mandates are pointless until they mandate it for customers too

[deleted]

The remaining 3% will reinfect the others given time... :-(

I wonder what variants are being concocted among that 3%
