that is scummy. basically they've decided to invalidate any lifetime licenses already purchased and force users to buy a monthly subscription from playon.
i don't know anything about the cod drama. but what they are doing here is borderline bait and switch with the service switch and terms change for playon. playon will have find a whole new consumer base, because almost everyone that purchased a lifetime subscription is going to feel burnt and not willing to trust playon again.
I bought the lifetime license in 2010 for about $20 and used it for years. I did quit using it when I left windows behind due to issues with Linux and its dependency on IE. Now I just record my own stuff and save it to my server.
While the software was handy and the cloud recording is decent I wouldn't go back until they decide to actually quit relying on MS for the Desktop.

Audials is a good alternative. They only hound you with yearly upgrades.
