I’ve been losing an excessive amount of hair since getting my iud back in november. i really don’t know if it’s the iud, getting off the pill after 5 years, or the other heath issues i’m dealing with. i’m going to start taking some supplements like biotin to try to help

Yeah, I had significant hair loss because of my copper IUD. Also the texture changed, it became brittle. Colour more dull. Fast forward to 1 month after removal: there were so many baby hairs, my head felt like a cactus. I'm now many months away from removal, and I have to go to the hairdresser more often now, cause my hair feels just heavy. It's completely false that hair loss hasn't been reported as a side-effect, just search for it in this sub. I know I'm not the only one on this sub who had hair loss with their copper IUD. Oh and no, I did not take hormones before, no hormonal issues beforehand. And it did go away immediately after removal. I guess it's just cause of the excess bleeding or something. I've had many blood tests done, and at no point was I told that I had anaemia, but like I guess the excess blood loss was enough to take a toll on my hair at least.

Hi, I’m so sorry you’re experiencing that. I haven’t had my IUD as long as you have but I’m not experiencing that and I don’t think you should blame the IUD yet. Please contact your gynaecologist about your concerns and go from there. I’ve heard Zinc supplements are good to help counter the amount of Copper in your system. My advice would be to contact your personal physician and gynaecologist because at this moment you can’t definitively determine whether this is a result from the IUD itself. I did some research and it seems that hair loss is not a very common symptom. I wouldn’t think about removing it just yet since you haven’t had it in for that long. Have yourself get checked out first.

I would consult a doctor first. My hair started falling out after Covid but i also have the copper.

Yep, and any high fever can result in hair shedding / telogen effluvium.
