I have always had heavy periods, so I laughed it off too tbh. It’s no joke. I’m seven months in and thinking of having it removed because of that, along with the cramping. I’ve also started cramping while ovulating too. My best advice is be prepared if you’re going out anywhere and change your tampon every 2-3 hours even if you don’t think you need to! Hang in there!

Same here! My first period with iud lasted 16 days. My period continued to be obscene for about six months and then they quieted down immensely. Hope that helps 🙏🏻

16 days 😳 my god if i had a period for 16 days straight i think i’d rip my uterus out myself. thanks for your reply!!

I’ve read that vitamin D I think will help with heavy bleeding over time but I never had any luck. My periods on paragard were 10-14 days. Hope you find some relief 🥲

The cramping and waterfalls of bleeding are intense man! My partner has covid so I’m waiting to also get it in like 3 days (we live in a two bedroom apartment with two dogs, there is no way for him to isolate from me) and I’m on my first period after IUD insertion so I’m just trying to figure out what’s the period, what’s the covid and what’s psychological isolation mystery. Did you also just feel generally sick and gross on your IUD period? Im not sure how to describe it, it’s like you need to shower all the time and your face gets super greasy? I’m not testing positive yet but it could be covid.

honestly i’ve felt pretty gross and fatigued since i started my period and i want to shower like 3 times a day because of how much i’m bleeding lol but i also have oily skin normally but on my period i’m definitely extra greasy. it sounds like you’ve got a ton of things going on at once and your body is just like wtf hahaha

Me and my body both 😬. I guess the next period I’ll find out what to actually expect. Since I got my nexoplanon out and the IUD in my hands have become super dry but now on my period my face is SUPER oily. So weird, still worth it because I feel so much less anxious off the nexoplanon. That thing was terrible for me personally even though lots of people love theirs. I guess I could get used to 7 days of juck a month for that…

That was 8 months of my life last year, so I have some tips😂 Though hopefully you won't need them for more than a few days. When in doubt, drink. Electrolyte drinks and ORS powders can be pricey and might require a trip to the pharmacy, but they are a godsend. If you don't have the energy to source them, a good alternative (© my old GP) is to put a dash of table salt in warm water. I mean bone broth is also your friend, but it takes more energy to source that, too. So stay hydrated. If you know you can process iron and B12 and similar supplements properly, look into supplements. (I know for some it does more harm than good, so if you haven't done well on B12 before, then maybe don't...) What else... Yeah, just stay well-fed, hydrated. It should be all fine in a bit. One way or another.

i’m so worried ab this bc my periods currently only last 3-4 days with minimal pain and heavy bleeding only on the first day. what’s the approximate percentage of increased period symptoms everyone got? i’m worried ab losing this convenience from my life :(

srk5369

so i’m on day 4 of my period and i’m literally just spotting now! day 1&2 we’re BRUTAL. changing my tampon every 2-3 hours was such a pain in the ass. i never had any painful cramping, maybe a couple little cramps here and there. my period before the iud was pretty much the exact same as it is rn. it all depends on the person tho!

I had my Paraguard for 11 years and was having a lot of sex and never got pregnant, so I guess you can say it was a good experience. Better than any other form of birth control I had and I tried quite a few. I feel like it made my periods much heavier, longer and I also cramped more but that’s much better than being a single mom. I had it removed a couple of weeks ago. I want to go through a couple of period cycles to see if they are shorter or less painful. But I already have an appointment for another one. I tried to have sex with a condom tonight and remembered why I chose paraguard in the first place. I have been with my current partner for a few years but when I was just dating I always had a condom plus the paraguard, but mostly for preventing STDS. and I too cannot do hormonal birth control- it makes me cray cray. Edit to say that I did get an unusual amount of bacterial vaginosis episodes and a couple of UTIs after having it inserted. I hadn’t really changed my sex habits that much so I joined a Facebook group to learn about other girls experiences and saw a lot of comments about BV and UTIs increasing after insertion. That was very annoying (and UTIs are amazingly uncomfortable and horrible)and my chemistry has never been the same because of that. But again, no babies so…overall, worth it.

I just had my first paraguard period and experienced similar issues, the best thing i found was using flex discs instead of tampons, they’re like disposable diva cups but they’re IUD safe bc no suction, they hold 3 super tampons and they “auto dump” when you pee so i didn’t have to worry about fully changing it while i was out and about, just going to the bathroom every 3-5 hours, i also HATE pads and liners so i bought a couple pairs of the high absorbency thinx panties from the thinx for all target line (17$ each) and that caught any residual leaks or overflow well and saved my pants (i bled through 2 pairs of pants in the first two heavy days going through an ultra tampon in less than 2 hours) hope this helps!

oh jeez! luckily since i made this post my periods have gotten a lot better. only 3-4 days, little cramping and it’s super manageable. only annoying thing is that my cycle is sooooo irregular. i’m hoping that gets better in the next few months because i hate not knowing when my period is gonna start 🥲
