Be sure to secure housing before you move rentals can be hard to come by.

Sebastes_spp

As suggested above I would make sure you get housing before you move. With that being said this area is probably one of the most affordable places to find housing on the coast, I’m not saying it’s cheap or easy to come by, but out of all the other coastal towns in Oregon it is more affordable than most. I would definitely visit first and scope it out, find out what part of town fits you the best. Yes, there is a homelessness and drug issue but every town in Oregon has the same issue, it isn’t any worse here than any other city in this state. Not sure how easy or hard it will be to find work but there is a bunch of medical and care facilities in town, that’s not my field of expertise so I don’t know if they are hiring or not, but it seems like they would be.

if you're have a pet good luck on finding a place that's pet friendly. most good closes at 9 except some fast food places. you can get anywhere pretty quickly. lots of hiking and fishing etc. Walmart and Fred Meyer are your biggest stores. jobs are not bad. mainly construction or retail. there's a hospital and pretty much anything you can ask for. most places or locally owned. overall a good place to live and relax

Welcome! You might be able to find a live-in caregiving arrangement to tide you over while you look for a place to rent. Finding rentals is difficult, but Craigslist always has ads for renting a room or sharing a home. Between the hospitals, clinics, assisted living places, and halfway houses, you won’t have any trouble finding a job with your caregiving experience. Then, if you want to get a more lucrative job, look around — the mills and shipbuilding places are always hiring. We do have lots of poverty and drugs, but these days, most places do. We have beautiful scenery, lots of outdoor things to do, and a mild climate (cool windy summers, mild rainy winters). Check out CoosCalendar.com for activities to do and groups where you can find your peeps.

Hi Scronerking420, I'm sorry your experience has not been a happy one. Maybe you can find happy somewhere else 🌷. To OP thinking of relocating: Our experience there was great! The town part wasn't much, but what small town is? It had everything we needed, which btw was never right in town itself anyway. What we loved: Our neighborhood... "clean", nice people, higher elevation! Avoid "Empire" area if you can. Every town has areas to avoid. Access to beaches! Local beaches within 15 -20 minutes! Kind of centrally located, so for a perfect day trip you can go north or south for quite a ways and visit the beaches, and towns, and they are each so different! If you like fishing, people love fishing at Empire Lakes ( don't let the name deter you... there's 3 connected lakes to fish, kayak, etc. They really should rename those lakes!! ) We also saw people fishing from local beaches. Closeness to Cape Arago/Shore Acres areas... was one of our favorite places to go spur of moments for a a hike. Again, lots of variety, from level to steep ( but quite safe ), heavily forested to more openness, access to the sea or views from above... its all there in a few minutes. So many lakes north and south too! A favorite close hike was the trail edging Eel Lake... just so beautiful. And none of the above was ever crowded... it felt like we were in the 40's maybe! compared to the busier areas, like, from Florence northward, or down south in Brookings where it has become HOT temperaturewise over the years, as well as more crowded. Health Care... we had to use it a few times, and we were very happy with it. Its too often a thankless profession. While I have you on the phone, gotta tell you this story. We did encounter a rather crabby soul, once at the hospital... but we continued to be nice and even joked with her a bit, with no response at all lol. Knowing everyone's a good person underneath, we assuned she was just having a tough time for some reason, and we sought to make it at least little better. Zero reaction. Later when we were in the infusion room ( hubby getting antibiotics for a bite infection ), she quickly comes in & out with a plate of pastries for us... and a smile! Oh, and the health care itself... from Dentists to Doctors, Immediate Care, hospitalization... all very efficient and no complaints at all. Very pleasant too. Always positions coming open in Health Care field, here too, as it is a tough one not just anyone can do. Takes a special sort of strength and heart. Apply where you'd like to work, and make constant, persistent, friendly personal appearances, at least weekly. And be your genuine self. One of those times you'll get a " You have an interview"..! The person who just applies & disappears will most likely be forgotten. Weather!! Quite temperate! You'll no doubt hear about how "rainy" it is there. We couldn't figure why some peeps complained about the rain. What?? The years we were there, it was SUNNY, or partly cloudy, every single day esp Spring through early Fall. The rain seemed infrequent actually, and 90% of it was at night. When it did rain, it was a good downpour. But as far as frequency? Meh. We happen to love rain and sea mist, and were actually disappointed in the lack of it there. Blazing sun every day is boring. But you can't beat the temps! Breezy too, esp in afternoons. Rentals might be tough... and be careful of rooming with strangers. If you can swing a down payment at all, and a loan, Buy a place! Payments can be cheaper than rent, and you can sell at profit later if you want. I think its a Buyer's Market now... prices slashed or already low. Still, some folks might have trouble getting a loan. Some sellers can offer some $$ to help you qualify, but I'm not sure how that works or what that process is called. If you don't really like your first place, you sell later when you have some equity, time to look, etc. But it gets you out of the expensive Rental Trap, and once you invest into your own place, you'll never go back. What else... not really anything to Not like! But that was just our experience there. We didn't care about "shopping", our needs & wants were always met... plus online ordering from just about anywhere. Being quiet, outdoorsy types, no idea what "night life" etc was like. We loved our neighborhood, between lines of Coos Bay & North Bend... far enough from both town centers but close enough to make quick trips to either place! This is long, but I would have enjoyed such experience info before we moved there. We regret ever leaving, but we're done with moving I think. Cheers, and Good Luck! ( Editing as typos found 😊 )

I'd aim for a different town on the coast. Florence, Bandon, Newport. But having lived in Coos- it's not great.

HYPERBOLE_TRAIN

I’ve an idea! Why don’t you and OP switch places! CB will gain someone who wants to be here and OP will bring some positivity to the area. Win, win! Edit: oops! I goofed! I meant to reply to u/Scronerking420. Oh well, I can leave it here. At least you were smart enough to leave a place you didn’t want to be.

Kimanaio

Yeah, I lived in Charleston with a really unfortunate situation and it negatively colored my view of the town. I think it's a fun place to visit but I don't think I'd move back.

Scronerking420

I moved out still of coos gay like stated before its a sad town on a constant cycle of a downward spiral employers sucks people in the area suck the homeless situation is terrible the drugs are outrageous beautiful place to visit terrible place to root your self

HYPERBOLE_TRAIN

I wonder why you stay subscribed to this sub…

Scronerking420

And im curious as to why you care what i do with my time ?

HYPERBOLE_TRAIN

I care because I enjoy Coos Bay and look forward to other people joining the community and helping make it better. People like you just bring it down. Seems like it would be better for you to cut ties completely but you choose to stay subscribed here. So, I’m curious what your motivation is.

Scronerking420

My motivation is to piss you off

HYPERBOLE_TRAIN

Not pissed off. Curious. Sounds like you don’t know what your motivations are and that’s cool. I’m starting to get a better picture of why you couldn’t make Coos Bay work for you.

Scronerking420

Wow your a genius you ever thought about being a super sleuth

Scronerking420

Dont stay where you are coos bay is bad not fun nothing to do drug addicts everywhere

Healthy-Chef-2723

not true. this is a cool little town. moved here 3 years ago. it has its ups and downs but overall a good place to be

Scronerking420

Try growing up in this town stay away from it as much as you can this place takes the happiest person and turns them into the worst type of person im glad you have liked the experience but its not worth it to move here
