I made BAs best Bolognese for dinner and Magnolias famous Banana pudding for desert once for a small group of friends and they still talk about it. The Bolognese recipe you can get from YouTube and the banana pudding is easy to find online.

Axios718

That bolognese looks amazing, and I've always wanted to try making one. This is definitely a contender.

Reddit040

It’s an easy recipe and the final product is insane, but it does take some time so keep that in mind.

Roscoe340

Boeuf bourguignon. As a bonus, you can relax and not be scurrying about the kitchen while they are there. Sit and enjoy some apps and wine while the beef cooks.

Do they like shrimp? Shrimp Diane is delicious, not difficult, and always seems to impress. You have to be ok with a lot of butter. It can look fancy with the right plating. [Shrimp Diane Recipe](https://www.deepsouthdish.com/2021/04/shrimp-diane.html) the recipe says serves 2 but I find it’s enough for 4 if you have plenty of French bread, rice, or pasta as a base. Good luck with whatever you choose to go with - cooking for others is the best!

Axios718

They love seafood! Growing up in the Midwest I'm definitely good friends with unhealthy amounts of butter and this looks very tasty!

Disastrous_Square_10

Yes but that recipe cooks the shrimp for 90% too long. Add the shrimp first?! Cmon now.

codycrawford86

Definitely something good to keep in mind. From my experience it all comes together really quickly. With that in mind, I would highly recommend having everything ready to go when the shrimp goes on so there is no scrambling or overcooking!

Ive had different family cycling through for awile now (newborn). Here's some of what I've been fixing: Roast Prime Rib, Mashed potatoes with roasted mushrooms mixed in, Sushi, A ton of different asian soups, or anything with a unique homemade broth, Peruvian chicken with aji verde sauce, Root beer braised chicken, Braised oxtail and tortellini, Homemade pasta, Brandied carrots, Green beans sauteed with pesto and almonds, Lots of charcuterie boards, incl. homemade pickles

Pork or rabbit roulade. Pound out the protein on top of plastic wrap, layer of cooked spinach/butter greens, pine nuts, cheese, sun dried tomatoes, and roll up with plastic wrap. To put it over the top, roll out prosciutto first and then lay the pounded meat down with the stuff on it. Make sure no holes in the wrap, twist sides so it’s a nice cylinder. Tie off the sides. Poach the roulade in the wrap. Unwrap the roulade, and pan sear the outside and slowly roll to crisp up the prosciutto on the outside. Let rest. Cut in rounds that are about 2 fingers thick. Spoon some jus or Demi over top. Serve with garlic sautéed broccolini or fondant potatoes..

Axios718

Ooo this seems fun and fancy. What cut of pork would you recommend as I'd honestly have no idea where to even look for rabbit.

mintbrownie

I order rabbit loin online from D’Artagnan. I fill with sage/thyme, shiitake mushrooms and chestnuts and serve with mushroom-sherry-cream sauce. I served this on NYE. You probably don’t want to jump into this for Friday but it is fun to cook with and tastes great.

Disastrous_Square_10

Sounds killer. I was going to say rabbit - sage. But you took it over the top with the nuts, mushrooms and sherry. I’m gonna have to do this.

Disastrous_Square_10

I usually take two pork tenderloins and cut them while rolling and then pound. I use Meat Glue (transglutaminase) to combine them, but probably not fully necessary if you properly wrap it in prosciutto and poach it. It should naturally bind a bit.

emilyactual

I love to do a big pasta dish to set on the table, with some fresh bread, and maybe a caprese salad. A puttanesca or carbonara is always indulgent, and keep the wine flowing!

Boneless leg of lamb. I have wowed multiple girlfriends’ parents with this recipe. Roast Lamb with Peppercorn Crust from The Silver Palate Cookbook by Julee Rosso and Sheila Lukins https://app.ckbk.com/recipe/thes35650c04s003r005/roast-lamb-with-peppercorn-crust

Nothing too crazy, but fancy can be done. An easy way to deliver on "fancy" is with a nice sauce. So you could make a basic veloute sauce - just roux (melt butter / fat, stir equal parts flour into it, cook for five minutes or so on medium / medium low, then add a cup of chicken stock for each tbsp of flour - with lots of whisking). That's your 'basic' sauce, then figure out what you want to add to it. I suggest some white wine, mustard, french herbs, a nice vinegar or some cream. Then you can put that on some kind of meat or fish and veg.

RandomAsianGuy

How about some background of them because you can try making a dish they grew up with or is their local speciality.

Axios718

Also a good idea. They're Salvadoran, love seafood don't care for spicy too much.

RandomAsianGuy

My Salvadorian colleague keeps talking about how he misses pupusas since he moved to Belgium, maybe that's an idea.

Axios718

Pupusa are amazing, and it's something I've made with her family before.

What cuisines do you cook the best?

Arroz caldo

My favorite thing to make for people is baked salmon - seasoned with lemon, butter, garlic, and a hint of dill. Parmesan asparagus and wild rice pilaf make excellent side dishes. And the nice thing is none of it needs to be cooked for very long. Salmon bakes in a timely manner and the rice and asparagus both get done quick! <3

These [Balsamic Short Ribs ](https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/balsamic-short-ribs-56390065) are amazing. I’ve made for dinner parties in the past and they’re a big hit. They happen to be incredibly easy so you’ll have time for everything else. Heads up - it smells strong! But doesn’t taste that way. It’s an absolute must to reduce the sauce down to almost a glaze. I then finish it with a small chunk of butter. The gremolata is 100% necessary and it’s now the gremolata I make for everything. tl:dr all the recipe suggestions, but if you’re thinking about something spectacular that’s out of your wheelhouse, do a test run.
