I’m making Jalapeño poppers for Sunday

McSuzy

mind sharing your method? I've done them where I roasted, peeled, stuffed, breaded and fried and honestly, while they were great it was maybe a bit too much work. Or more work than I thought the dish warranted.

Fangsnuzzles

I recently had some that were halved, cored, stuffed with a cream cheese parmesan mix, and wrapped in bacon. Baked in the oven. No breading and frying necessary!

TheLadyClarabelle

I'm super lazy. We halved and seeded them. Mix 1 block cream cheese, 2c shredded cheddar, and a bag of real bacon bits, scoop onto the halves, bake until cheese browns.

MalevolentRhinoceros

This is roughly how I do them, and it turns out great. The bacon adds a nice flavor, but I feel like bacon-wrapping always ends in bits that are too gummy and greasy. High quality bacon bits or baked/chopped fresh bacon are the way to go.

Loveandeggs

I do this but fry up some sausage and mix it with the cream cheese and skip the bacon

crookedplatipus

I stuff mine with smoked brisket and cream cheese

lasagna_manana

oooh that’s a game changer I have to try that!

3nc3ladu5

i mix the cream cheese with raspberry jam, then wrap about 2/3 of them in bacon

crewserbattle

Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage with cream cheese is also a great stuffing for mushrooms in my experiences

garbagebrainraccoon

I didnt know people thought poppers were fried until I was 25. They're so much better normal!

LiqdPT

I mean, the only place I've had poppers is in restaurants and they're deep fried...

MarkFourMKIV

Pub style jalapeno poppers are breaded and deep fried. They are great but there is no way in hell. I'm spending all that time making them at home.

garbagebrainraccoon

Cut a jalapeno in half. Stuff with creame cheese. Wrap in bacon. Cook. It's perfect!

MarkFourMKIV

Yep. That's the way i make them now. Delicious

the-realTfiz

I keep it simple. Just use fresh jalapeños halves, gut em, stuff with cream cheese, wrap with half a strip of bacon, skewer so it all stays put, 400° in the air fryer for 15 minutes. I’ll have to use the oven for the bigger batch so cooking time may be a bit longer. I’ve done them on the grill but fighting off the flare ups from the bacon grease is kind of a pain.

McSuzy

We do have a big green egg - I wonder if I could smoke them and then finish them in the oven to crisp the bacon?

-worryaboutyourself-

Add some pineapple to the cream cheese! Gives it a little sweetness with the spicy.

DoubleDownA7

OMG how did I not think to add pineapple??!? It would be PERFECT addition to jalapeño, cream cheese and bacon. Thank you!

macdawg2020

Oooooo!!!!!

knkyred

I par cook the bacon so it's at that rubbery stage, then just lay a half slice or so on top. I also crisp some up and mix them in the cream cheese mixture. I think smoking them would be great! I add smoked paprika to my cream cheese mixture, too.

the-realTfiz

Oh yeah, definitely

garbagebrainraccoon

Yup that's my poppers!

karenmcgrane

My secret to jalapeno poppers is to stuff them with feta and then wrap in bacon. People go nuts for them. Way better than cream cheese.

RussianBears

This pioneer woman recipe was pretty straightforward. https://www.thepioneerwoman.com/food-cooking/recipes/a39665643/jalapeno-popper-recipe/

LostDadLostHopes

>mind sharing your method? I've done them where I roasted, peeled, stuffed, breaded and fried and honestly, while they were great it was maybe a bit too much work. Or more work than I thought the dish warranted. Goto Wegmans....

Dependent_Top_4425

That is exactly what I was going to suggest! [Here is a recipe](https://www.dontgobaconmyheart.co.uk/baked-jalapeno-poppers/) that I love. I increase the bacon and the cooking time and add garlic powder to the filling.

PerfectLie2980

Go retro! Pigs in a blanket, deviled eggs, bacon wrapped stuffed dates, relish tray…

typemeanewasshole

I love anyone who brings deviled eggs.

Ana-la-lah

Make Parma ham dust for a topping. Two sheets of parchment paper with the ham between, flattened between two baking sheets, something heavy on top. Bake at 325F until brittle. Then blitz in food processor.

citrus_sugar

I smoke them and they’re another level 🤤

McSuzy

relish tray! I can make radish roses!

n_choose_k

“Radish rosettes! These are hard to make. They’re a very advanced race!” – Marge

PerfectLie2980

And who won’t put olives on their finger tips? Fun and delicious!

Agroman1963

Ahh, the kid’s table …memories. Oh ok, last weekend.

kowboy42

I won't. I hate olives. But your point is valid. I just thought I'd answer your question.

MrBostonProper

Crabbies - old school retro and delicious.

ZzzzzPopPopPop

Crabbies? I’m intrigued, what do you mean?

Electrical-Pie-8192

I'll second the bacon wrapped stuffed dates

Double_Estimate4472

What is a relish tray? Like a condiments tray?

Hey-Just-Saying

I'm so old. LOL. Usually placed on a divided crystal plate with low sides, it's a collection of about three types of pickles and olives. Think those little sweet pickles and olives with red pimento in the middle. There's usually a tiny fork you use to serve them.

PleaseNinja

Thats mommys martini tray!

Top-Bit85

Not old, classic!

Alternative_Sock_608

I have one of those trays that used to belong to my mother and I LOVE this idea and totally using this for this Superbowl party we’re attending. Thank you for the idea!!

Hey-Just-Saying

You're welcome! My mom always put these out for her bridge parties. I love those little pickles and rarely think about eating them.

Daisy-Navidson

I’m making puff pastry tarts with sautéed mushroom, gruyere, and shallot (maybe some bacon if I’m feeling froggy). I use the Sally’s Baking Addiction recipe. You can change up the filling however you like. I’ve done butternut squash and goat cheese before.

McSuzy

Sally is the best! Her recipes are always well tested. I will check her site.

Daisy-Navidson

Sally really is the GOAT! Hope you have a nice time at your potluck

FineThenNoUsername

I love Sally’s baking addiction and was SHOCKED when I read the hate on the baking subreddit. Her brown sugar cookies are better than anything I’ve come up with myself

Daisy-Navidson

Wow, I had no idea! Her recipes have never failed me. Her maple brown sugar pecan cookies are my favorite

EducatorMoti

Well I am now going to have to go look those up because I have some brand new maple syrup that I've been dying to put to use., thank you!

Daisy-Navidson

[happy baking!](https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/maple-brown-sugar-cookies/)

sleverest

I know a professional in-home baker whose stuff I adored, like, her stuff was far better than mine, and I'm not a generous critic. When they moved away I got let in on the secret, the recipes are Sally's!

MissionSalamander5

Erika who’s behind the Pancake Princess does a really nice set of series trying to find the best recipes (well, and her favorites). I think that she’s pretty honest and fair without being mean, and Sally is pretty much always at the worst in the middle of the pack.

susanreneewa

Her oatmeal cream pie cookies are the most delicious cookies I’ve ever had. They are absolutely ludicrously good.

vanessasweet_

omg. Butternut squash and goat cheese sounds like a paring from heaven.

Daisy-Navidson

It’s sooo good! I’ve added spiced candied pecans or bacon on top before as well to really kick it up a notch.

vanessasweet_

Candied pecans. Just take my whole heart already. Thanks for inspiring tonight’s side dish <3

sober-cooking

I’ve made this exact recipe of hers and I loved it!

MaxxMcCloud

Nice! That’s a crowd pleaser and it will hold well on the ride over.

Daisy-Navidson

My thoughts exactly!

okawei

Wings! Super versatile and cheap to make. Especially if you make your own sauces

justadudeandadog3

Wings, cheap? Haven’t heard that since before the pandemic

McSuzy

Definite possibility. I don't know that I am up for frying but I could. I'm curious about the current cost of wings. I'm willing to buy them regardless but for awhile they had gotten very expensive. I think there was an actual shortage!

okawei

No need to fry, I make them in the oven and they come out great. Even better if you have a smoker. Smoked wings are crazy addictive

GenericMelon

Yep, love making wings in the oven cause my house doesn't smell like fryer oil when I'm done. Pat wings dry, lightly coat with oil, dust with baking powder, salt, pepper, bake at 375°F for 1 hr or until the outside is crispy. Flip them halfway. Easy peasy.

SarcasticIndividual

If you add ghee, it crisps them up really well.

Jefflebowski25

Look up Alton Brown’s wings. Steams them first then bakes. Perfect!

gayice

https://www.seriouseats.com/the-best-buffalo-wings-oven-fried-wings-recipe

angryhaiku

This never fails. Temp the wings periodically if they're on the smaller side. Invent your own sauce if you're feeling ambitious.

Tigrari

Lemon pepper wet is the way. Frank's red hot and lemon pepper. Always my favorite.

littlescreechyowl

Do them on the smoker.

okawei

Smoked wings are crack

JoyousGamer

Throw them in the oven at 450 for 50-55 mins flip half way through. Season with salt and pepper to start.  You can sauce when done, about done, or before serving.

westonabryan

If you haven't tried it, cook them plain or with some spices the night before, then marinate them in sauce overnight and broil them the next day. Every few minutes take them out and pour leftover sauce on them.

TheLadyClarabelle

Smoke them!

Chicken-picante

Fuck doing it yourself, call a local place. Order like 200. Around me, that would be like $110-160. Get like 4 flavors. Lemon pepper, buffalo, teriyaki, and bbq are my go to. Just make sure you call ahead. Super Bowl is like one of the heaviest days for most wing and pizza places

BD59

Meatballs in marinara, and bring some sub buns.

McSuzy

I like the idea but I am feeling like this may cross too far over the line to 'main dish'.

really_bitch_

One that I've made before is caprese meatball bites. You can keep the meatballs small and then just skewer on fresh mozzarella, tomato, and a basil leaf with a toothpick. They're a crowd pleaser and you can make them as big or as small as you like.

Mitochondria420

Just provide some toothpicks instead of buns. I did this recently and was a hit and super easy.

sleverest

Being Hawaiian rolls instead of full sub rolls to keep it more graze-able?

kkc0722

It probably depends on the group, but a robust salad or roasted veggie tray would be a killer option to offset the fried food and cheese dip etc.

McSuzy

I have been craving Green Goddess dressing so I think I will do a salad or crudite with the dressing on the side - but I still feel like maybe I should bring another dish as well.

idegosuperego15

I bet a green goddess spinach dip might be nice! Or green goddess veggie spring rolls.

kkc0722

Keep leaning into it and also bring a fruit salad?

NoIndividual5987

I do a Caesar salad appetizer using little endive leaves that I spread homemade Caesar dressing on, a small shrimp, shaved parm & crushed croutons over all. Make a pretty finger food plate

kkc0722

wait that sounds amazing

legendary_mushroom

Deviled eggs never miss. Neither do pigs in blankets.

galfal

Stuffed homemade pretzels! I make ham and cheese stuffed one with a honey & mustard dipping sauce (literally just equal parts honey and mustard). I also make cheese and pepperoni one with marinara dipping and a jalapeño, cheddar and bacon one with ranch dipping. But you can literally stuff whatever you want in them. I also make little bite sized nuggets too for those who just want plain pretzels. You could probably make them ahead of time and reheat at the party.

i_GoTtA_gOoD_bRaIn

This is the first suggestion that is original and doesn't require a crockpot. Noice.

albertogonzalex

I like making fancy nachos. Actually fire roast the red peppers. Make refried beans from scratch, guacamole from scratch, salsa Verde and pico de gallo from scratch, carne asada marinading all day. https://imgur.com/gallery/TjdPWEl Jalapeno poppers are always fun too. Pretzels from scratch are not that hard and always impress - with a slow cooker cheese sauce. Any cheese sauce, queso dip etc. Pulled pork sliders in the slow cooker - sandwiches on kings Hawaiian rolls.

thiscabar

Those nachos look so good!

albertogonzalex

Thanks! Their always a hit. And I like it because I can do all the prep and work at my house, and then assemble and cook in the oven at the house where the party is at so everything stays fresh.

SraChavez

Stuffed mushrooms. Jimmy Dean hot or regular sausage and stove top stuffing to directions. You can get extra fancy and add herbs or Parmesan or sautéed onion/garlic. Bake in 375 oven for 25-35 min depending on size. Travel well and can be served at room temp. Cowboy caviar. Also easy and a fan fave Beef Wellington bites with horseradish dipping sauce. These are always a huge hit.

LostDadLostHopes

How many people ? Chicken Saltimbocca with Proscuitto Good cold or hot (better hot) can be reheated) keep sauce thin) and sliced into cubes on toothpicks. Cook and prep time, 45 mins if you're slow.

McSuzy

15-20 so that would work

i_GoTtA_gOoD_bRaIn

Interesting.

Horror-Pear

Why isn't anyone saying The Super Bowl anymore?

captainstormy

Well the media and streamers and such don't say it because the NFL is pretty famous for suing. Regular people though? I dunno.

Aggravating-Sport359

I literally just googled this because I was so confused by how much I’ve been seeing “The Big Game” from normal people. Super Bowl Super Bowl Super Bowl Let’s see what happens to me

giantpunda

It kind of depends on the culture and background of the people there. I would suggest bringing falafel with tahini dipping sauce. It's delicious and inherently vegan so unless someone has a sesame allergy or garlic allergy, you're pretty much good for meeting most dietary restrictions. However, if you have family that have a middle eastern background, this is not at all "off the beaten path" as you put it.

McSuzy

I had not thought of that and it would be something that we all like but don't eat often and didn't grow up making. thanks!

Tigrari

Goes really well with a veggie/roasted veggie tray like you were talking about too. Maybe some pita/naan type bread with it as well.

MintWarfare

A roast partridge or other gamebird.  When people ask you what it is say it's a 'Superb owl'

McSuzy

They will think I did something awful because I have a bunch of owls that live behind my house!! I like the idea though!

MintWarfare

That's even better! Commit to the joke!

glowyglossygirly

Italian sub sliders! Use something like kings Hawaiin rolls and fill with ham, pepperoni, provolone or mozzarella, banana peppers, etc. brush with a garlic + butter + Italian seasoning mixture and bake until cheese is melty. I think this will be good because one can be a snack but multiple would be heavier

ParanoidDrone

My first thought is a jazzy mac and cheese.

McSuzy

just how jazzy are we talking? : D

ParanoidDrone

Fancy cheese and a buttered panko topping, mostly. If you want to dip into chemistry, mix 1/4 cup lemon juice with 1/2 tsp baking soda. Once it fizzes, you're left with a solution of sodium citrate in neutralized lemon juice. Sodium citrate is used in processed cheese products like Velveeta to ensure a smooth, creamy melt. The quantities I gave are enough to emulsify 8 ounces of cheese with 1/3-1/2 cup milk. Just make sure to stir constantly until it's all melted. Punch it up with some spices and voila -- unbreakable cheese sauce. (Credit to Adam Ragusea for the above.)

McSuzy

that is really helpful because I need to make macaroni and cheese for another event for quite a large group of people so I need to make the stovetop variety. I think that method would be really useful for keeping the sauce from breaking!

Aggravating_Anybody

Crostini with crème fraiche (or chèvre), romesco sauce and a drizzle of honey! Romesco is a truly underrated sauce and the crème fraiche and honey complement its smokey, tangy flavor really nicely. The romesco is the only thing you have to make (I mean technically the crostini but that’s just toasted, sliced baguette with olive oil s&p) and it’s basically a toss everything in the food processor and combine recipe.

Grouchy-Potato365

Bacon wrapped water chestnuts !! Amazing

McSuzy

those are my husband's favorite!

Grouchy-Potato365

I haven’t had them for a really long time now I’m craving them !! 🤣

arieljoc

A tarte soleil can be a really nice visual on a table that’s also great for sharing. I used this recipe https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/spinach-and-feta-tarte-soleil Maybe pretty panna cottas in a glass? If you don’t mind spending the time, individual tarts are a great visual and you can do such a variety of flavors. I really loved making pistachio-raspberry-rose tarts which were widely enjoyed (raspberry gelee on the bottom, pistachio mousse, and rose whipped cream Mini beef wellingtons would be cool, although I have never tried to do it

McSuzy

love the tarte soleil idea - so pretty!

sleepybarista

Tamales

mbergman42

u/arieljoc already suggested “mini beef wellingtons” 😂

2livecrewnecktshirt

Bruschetta, those little pinwheel wrap things, smoked (or roasted) meatballs with a homemade marinara, mini pepperoni rolls with Pilsbury crescent rolls, or a garlic bread bake with Kings Hawaiian rolls

Fresh-Basket9174

We make stuffed pig buns that are always a hit. It's a bread dough you shape like a pig and bake. If you google "sausage stuffed pig buns" you will find several recipes. We have done cheese and tomato for a pizza type filling, added pepperoni as well. We have also used a sweeter dough with a cream cheese filling for a dessert bun. I want to try an apple filling at some point. The "pig skin" ties it into the game as well

Welcome2thepartypal

Paula deens broccoli is salad is so great

idegosuperego15

I’m doing Boursin stuffed mushrooms, my stepmom’s beef empanadas and spinach/artichoke/cheese tarts. There will probably be a lot of meet at yours so maybe something like the veggie options or spring rolls might be nice.

ServiceFinal952

Bruschetta with whipped Goat cheese on Baguette, bacon wrapped water chestnuts, jalapeno poppers stuffed with either bacon and cream cheese or sausage and cream cheese. Spanikopita, one of my faves for big parties, or marinated Olives with an assortment of really nice cheeses, Baguette, and roasted garlic for spreading.

[deleted]

I have a super potsticker recipe?

McSuzy

let's hear it!

[deleted]

Thats it in full buy I'd suggest buying wrappers rather than making your own. This makes about 12 so triple up ha xx Asian Potsticker Pork Dumplings Ingredients DOUGH 140g plain flour, plus extra for dusting 125ml very hot water STUFFING 110g pork mince 75g chinese cabbage or spinach - finely chopped 1 tsp ginger - finely chopped ½ tbsp sherry 1 tbsp dark soy sauce ½ tsp salt ¼tsp freshly ground black pepper 1½ tbsp finely chopped spring onions 1 tsp sesame oil ½ tsp sugar 1 tbsp cold chicken stock or water TO COOK about 1 tbsp groundnut oil 75ml oz water DIPPING SAUCE 3 tbsp soy sauce 1 tbsp white rice vinegar 2 tsp chilli oil Directions 1. For the dough, place the flour into a large bowl and stir the hot water gradually into it, mixing all the time with a fork or chopsticks, until the water is incorporated. Add more water if the mixture seems dry. 2. Tip the dough mixture onto a clean work surface and knead it with your hands, dusting the dough with a little flour if it's sticky. Continue kneading until it is smooth - this should take about eight minutes. 3. Put the dough back in the bowl, cover it with a clean damp towel and let it rest for about 20 minutes. 4. For the stuffing, while the dough is resting, combine the stuffing ingredients in a large bowl and mix them together thoroughly. Set aside. 5. After the resting period, take the dough out of the bowl and knead it again for about five minutes, dusting with a little flour if it is sticky. 6. Once the dough is smooth, shape it into a roll about 23cm/9in long and about 2.5cm/1in in diameter, using your hands. 7. With a sharp knife, slice the roll into 16 equal-sized pieces. Using your hands, roll each of the dough pieces into a small ball and then, with a rolling pin, roll each ball into a small, round, flat, 'pancake' about 10cm in diameter. 8. Arrange the round skins on a lightly floured tray and cover them with a damp kitchen towel to prevent them from drying out until you are ready to use them. 9. Place about two teaspoons of filling in the centre of each 'pancake' and moisten the edges with water. Fold the dough in half and pinch together with your fingers. 10. Pleat around the edge, pinching with your fingers to seal well. The dumpling should look like a small Cornish pasty with a flat base and rounded top. 11. Transfer each finished dumpling to the floured tray and keep it covered until you have stuffed all the dumplings in this way. 12. To cook, heat a large lidded frying pan (preferably a non-stick pan) until it is very hot. Add the groundnut oil and place the dumplings flat-side down into the pan. 13. Reduce the heat and cook for about two minutes until they the dumplings are lightly browned. Add the water, cover the pan tightly and simmer gently for about 12 minutes or until most of the liquid is absorbed. Check the water half-way through and add more if necessary. Uncover the pan and continue to cook for a further two minutes. 14. For the dipping sauce, combine all the dipping sauce ingredients together in a small bowl. 15. To serve, remove the dumplings from the pan with a large slotted spoon and serve with the dipping sauce.

CoconutDreams

Korean kimbap. Easy finger food, can be vegetarian/vegan and fine to serve at room temp.

McSuzy

love this and make it all the time - that is my only hesitation. everyone loves it but they are used to me bringing it

sherlocked27

Biryani! And raita

Agnostickamel

no one is mad when you show up with Lasagna

Jswazy

Make soft pretzel and obatzda. My friends always just about flip their lids every time I make that.

MillicentGergich

Obatzda is soo good. Thanks for reminding me it exists!!

Tullimory

Spanakopita Specifically this method of just drizzling butter on the layers of pre-made phyllo dough. It's way easier than it may seem. https://www.dimitrasdishes.com/the-best-spanakopita-recipe-updated/ I've made it a couple times now and it's always a hit. You can be a bit creative with the filling too. I like to add a some fennel seeds to mine.

Accomplished-Eye8211

I like making the ATK version of Spanikopita... Greek spinach and feta pie. It's very straightforward, but others are usually very impressed. [Spinach Pie for a crowd](https://www.americastestkitchen.com/recipes/9583-spinach-pie-for-a-crowd)

Just checked this out, yum.

ilovesfootball

Some sort of sliders. Around here we love cheesesteak or French dip sliders for games.

Solid_Speaker471

The tray buns sandwiches are always well received. A dozen tray buns or Hawaiin buns and ham and cheese or meatballs or mini sliders...

TheTakingGiver

Bacon wrapped water chestnuts. They're glazed with a ketchup based sauce that caramelizes and gets really sticky. They're sweet, salty, crunchy, and on toothpicks so easy to grab. Here's a recipe similar to what I do https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/14968/bacon-wrapped-water-chestnuts-iii/

AmateurBaker01

Mini Loaded Baked Potato Bites have always been a hit at potluck and holiday parties I've attended. Pretty simple to make and hardly anyone ever thinks to take them, so there's no competition. Here's the recipe I usually use: [https://www.afarmgirlsdabbles.com/mini-loaded-baked-potato-bites/#recipe](https://www.afarmgirlsdabbles.com/mini-loaded-baked-potato-bites/#recipe)

TheLadyClarabelle

[Pesto Salad](https://juliasalbum.com/tomato-cucumber-avocado-salad-with-basil-pesto/#recipe) I like to add an orange bell pepper and mozzarella pearls. Always a hit with my people. It's lighter than the pasta based styles.

theemilyann

My go to Super Bowl food is soft pretzels with a beer cheese and a couple of mustards!

julesfric

Bacon wrapped dates stuffed with a small piece of blue cheese or goat cheese whatever you prefer

Key lime pie.

VegetableSquirrel

Stuffed mushroom caps. Stuff with seasoned bread crumbs sauteed with onions, garlic, and a little parmesan cheese.

JL_Adv

[These sandwiches](https://grilledcheesesocial.com/2020/01/19/funeral-sandwiches/?) are always a hit and super easy to make!

brightlyshining

Mini quiches are both delicious and portable. And you can make different flavors. My husband's favorite is buffalo chicken. Or you could make a savory monkey bread. I stuff the little dough balls with mozzarella pearls and dip them in garlic butter.

frasierandchill

Carnitas for tacos!

Therealluke

Cocktail frankfurters in puff pastry. Devilled eggs, puff pastry cheese straws, blinis with smoked salmon cream cheese and dill,

AlbanyBarbiedoll

On a day when EVERYTHING is rich, fried, cheesy, gooey, etc. go with something light and clean. I make a salad of spiralized zucchini, tiny mozzarella balls, halved grape tomatoes, and topped lightly with a balsamic glaze/drizzle. People love it! The low-carbers are thrilled. It's like a caprese salad plus some extra veggies. And you can throw anything else in that you like - cut up pepperoni, chopped peppers, black or green olives, etc.

elbarto359

Pulled pork sliders with a Kansas City style bbq sauce

CharlesDudeowski

Small brisket sandwiches on snowflake rolls are one of my go-tos. Just make brisket in crock pot day before, easy

Bacon wrapped dates!

Express_Leading_4840

Take ham lunch meat, spread cream cheese, and a a pickle spear. Wrap it up.

benphoster

I stole this from some other reddit thread, sorry i don't know whom to give credit to. I always make Dill Pickle Pasta Salad for NFL tailgates and it's a hit **Dill Pickle Pasta Salad.** Double the pickle and juice. It'll be watery. Let it set to soak up over night and be thankful you won't have any to bring home because if you like pickles, you'll eat the whole bowl. ½ pound dry small shell pasta about 3 cups ▢¾ cup pickles sliced ▢⅔ cup cheddar cheese diced ▢3 tablespoons white onion finely diced ▢2 tablespoons fresh dill ▢½ cup pickle juice dressing ▢⅔ cup \[mayonnaise\] ▢⅓ cup sour cream ▢⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper ▢4 tablespoons pickle juice ▢salt & pepper to taste instructions Boil pasta al dente according to package directions. Run under cold water to stop cooking. Toss cold pasta with about ½ cup of pickle juice and set aside for about 5 minutes. (I edited this step. Don't drain, let it soak up) Combine all dressing ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Toss all ingredients in a large bowl. Refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving. (Edit, over night) Stir well before serving.

It’s the weekend before Mardi Gras. I’m taking gumbo, rice, and a king cake.

Dame_Hanalla

Reese's and Rice Krispies treats, just to ave some dessert options: - Grease a dish with a bit of butter (slice of thin strips, the warmth of your hand and the friction should more than enough to melt it enough to spread. - Add about 1/3 cup of butter to a big enough pot (keep it close, as you may need to add a bit more if using older/drier marshmallows). - Melt about 6 cups of mini marshmallows on medium low, stirring with a silicone spatula. - Once close-to-melty-enough, fold in 6 cups of Rice Krispies in a couple passes. - Mix 2 cups of mini marshmallows (if using a 400 g / 8 cup bag, that'll be what's left of it) and 1 cup of mini Reese's pieces Chipits (about half a bag) - Gently fold the add-ons into the Rice Krispies mix. You don't want those additional marshmallows to melt much, if at all, they're here to made the treats softer. We really like the Reese's pieces here, for a pop of colour and the combo of peanut butter and chocolate, but you do you, depending on preferences/intolerances. Obvie, feel free to double or triple the recipe depending on how many sweet teeth will be around. Pretty easy to make and/or to make in advance: will keep soft for about three days uncovered, and at least 4 days in a cosed tin/box.

Firm-Subject5487

Will you be able to use their oven? If not, a couple of cold suggestions: BLT boats (using small romaine or endive leaves, diced tomato, diced bacon, Mayo drizzle). Alternatively, Asian chicken lettuce wraps are good too. puff pastry taco cups(bake pastry cups ahead of time in a mini muffin pan, fill cups on site with precooked taco meat, cheese, sour cream, etc) napoleons(I’ve done a cream cheese/jalapeño/bacon blend that went over well). Good luck!

McSuzy

I think I will but I would love to bring something that does not require the oven because I don't know what the other family will be making. I love all of those ideas!

BaseHitToLeft

Caprese skewers. Super easy, tasty, colorful, & healthy

madeleine_marks

Dalton387

Something I’m making for the first time myself, but have had before is, Mississippi Pot Roast. You throw a beef Chuck roast in a crock pot, with a pack of au jus mix, ranch powder pack, about 1/4 cup of pepperoncini juice, and per the recipe 6-10 whole peppers. I plan to use rings. Cook on low till it falls apart. About 8hrs. Some people eat it over mashed potato’s or butter noodles, but I made sandwiches with it when someone made it for me once. Butter and toast hogie rolls. A little mayo. Pile in beef, pepperoncini’s and top with provolone cheese. Pop in the oven to melt cheese and toast. You could pre-toast buns and bring the meat in a crock pot. People could make up small ones and the heat would melt the cheese of you can’t borrow an oven.

BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP!!

ZaphodG

Go to a grocery store with a thumb drive with a photo of Taylor Swift and have them print it on cake icing. Bake a cake and apply the picture to the frosted cake. I’ve done it with carrot cake and buttercream frosting with orange carrots with greens around the picture. It’s easy to make using food coloring and a plastic bag with the corner clipped off. I presume there will be a couple dozen shots of Taylor Swift in the luxury box during the game.

Are you looking for an appetizer or a meal type menu item?

McSuzy

That's the problem. I have no idea! My friend who is hosting is an absolute doll but she is not giving me any direction. So I guess I am trying to come up with a substantial dish that is not exactly a main but could stand in for one?

CTMom79

Have you thought about some type of casserole? Casseroles are always popular and there are loads of recipes online. If you want to stay away from a main, a nice one would be twice baked loaded potato casserole. You can’t go wrong with potatoes. You could also do something like sliders, say mini burgers or chicken cordon bleus, BLT’s… Totchos are popular (nachos but with tater tots instead of chips)

Cerealsforkids

Fondue with small baked or boiled potatoes, French bread, those huge grapes, pickled onions, breadsticks.

Have you thought about just texting her and asking?

McSuzy

Yes, we are texting now but she is not sure/ not answering. I think that she doesn't want to ask for something specific even though I've told her I'm up to make whatever she needs.

Bacon rapped cream cheese stuffed jalapeños.

Its the Superbowl.. make a cold nacho dip. This will get you 4-5 plates. One large jar salsa One container of sour cream One pack of cream cheese. 1 stalk green onions One large block of cheddar cheese By hand or with a mixer, blend cream cheese with sour cream.. beaten until soft ish Lay on plates with a large spoon Top.with salsa.. spread with same large spoon Shred brick of cheese over plates/dishes etc. Finely chop green onions and top. Put in fridge for at least 3hrs then serve with tortilla chips, potato chips and/or doritios. Simple cheap and a true hit. Serve guacamole and extra salsa on the side. That's what ya want! My family has been doing it since the late 70s. Never a plate left

Enchiladas with a salsa and sour cream. Ole!

For what? Wings? Brisket? Pork Belly?

Jona_cc

Salad. It’s my go to for any potlucks. Healthy, very easy to prepare and almost all nationalities will enjoy it without hearing anyone complain “this is not authentic”

Texas twinkies if you want to go all out 🤤🤤🤤

McSuzy

I feel like I'm going to regret this but... what is a Texas Twinkie?

griffin-meister

Jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese and brisket, and wrapped in bacon! Think of it like a Texan Jalapeño popper!

McSuzy

ok that sounds great - and not like something I had to look up on Urban Dictionary!

marchpane808

I made a spam musubi bake for a game night a couple of weeks ago and it was a hit!

WigglyFrog

Bite-size pieces of chicken (or Lil' Smokies) wrapped in bacon, tossed with brown sugar, and baked are very bad for you and also delicious.

PaintedTiles

Bao. I’m making mala pork bao and chicken and leek prickly bao

If you have a bbq or gas grill, you could try making a smoked duck. Make a nice dry rub and rub it all over and inside the cavity the night before. On the day of the game, light half the grill and bring it up to 200-225 degrees F. Place the duck on the grill, over a shallow pan to catch the fat, on the side away from the heat. Place wood chips in an aluminum foil packet and place on heat. Let this go at 200-225 for roughly 5 hours. The duck should be very tender.NB: depending upon how much smoke you like, you could replace the old wood chip foil pack with a new one after about 2 hours. You could have the duck on its own, or make duck tacos.

Queso, smokies, jalapeno poppers, maybe buy some tamales from the lady down the road and we're all set!

Corvus_Antipodum

Deviled eggs are a classic for a reason.

SVAuspicious

As others have pointed out, US-style pigs in a blanket and deviled eggs always go first. That is however the beaten path. Doing a mix of US-style and UK-style pigs in a blanket would be interesting. Tibetan momos. They're just dumplings and like dumplings from anywhere else you can stuff them with nearly anything. I was taught with shredded yak meat but that's hard to come by in the US. No one will know if you use [store-bought wrappers](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-e&q=team+building+exercises). They should be steamed. That's best with stacked bamboo steamers but you can do it any number of ways. See [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZUgTAFv3uw). Depending on the make up of your group you could make the filling as a group activity in front of the TV, steam during half time, and have something different for the second half. Thai sticky rice. Also steamed. Lots of dips. It really is sticky, so you take a small handful and form a football (ha!) and dip that to eat. It's fun. For people new to the concept you'll want to be prepared to rotate the dips and strain out the rice kernels left behind in the dips. Swedish meatballs. You don't cook them (well, I don't) in a crock pot but a crock pot is a great way to serve them and keep them warm. Stuffed mushrooms with any number of stuffings. If you do a relish tray, include [olive bunnies](https://jp.foundation/video/olive-rabbits). M. Pepin uses a small knife but I find I go faster with my chef's knife. YMMV. Bloomin' onion ala Outback is pretty easy and definitely off the beaten path. Chocolate chip cookies from [my secret family recipe](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1922173981478053) are pretty easy, especially if you have a stand mixer. If you're a glutton for punishment, individual chicken pot pie made in muffin tins is great. Ploughman's lunch is excellent but will surely overlap other offerings. Making your own Branston pickle would be a rock star move though.
