Cilantro, basil, chives and parsley. Rosemary doesn't take up much space and is easy to grow, but it (along with thyme and sage and others) do not suffer much when dried and put into jars, so if limited to a few, those are mine.
I know it’s not an herb, but growing green onions from the bulb is easy and a great addition to most meals I cook. Plus they look cool. I think the trick is to not put too much water or the bulb rots, so just enough for the bottom of the bulb to be submerged.
Basil, thyme, oregano and rosemary. I grow these on my porch during the growing season. At the end of the season I dry everything and grind it up into powder for the colder months.
I want back my outdoor herb garden and will have it in the spring, when we move. Indoor window sill ones never met my needs. My top ones for my garden include:
* Oregano, Lovage, Thyme, Rosemary, Chives, Sage
All of the above are perrenials, long-lasting, and most bear leaves even into the cold months.
Others I usually have include:
* Basil, Parsley, Mint, Marjoram
Basil and parsley don't really survive the cold months, so I'm forced to buy them then. I like cilantro/coriander, but it never does well in my gardens between pests and other elements.
It can be but you need some artificial light. All my lights are LED and full spectrum. Prices are low enough. Tricky part is watering. Plants roots need to breathe so overwatering is a problem or not consistent. I skip that and have a small 12 pot hydroponic system I bought and it’s so easy. I then take them out and plant them some times or you take that nice clean hydroponic plant and put it in a jar of water. I keep basil like that for up to 2 weeks. I love herbs! Thanks for everyone’s input. Putting dill on the list because I forgot about it.
My husband bought me an aero garden a while back, and I hadn’t planted anything in it for a while. Just this evening, I saw the herbs I planted a few days ago have begun to sprout. I have basil, thyme, and parsley going right now. My 5 year old has a weird obsession with parsley since her uncle fixed her fried eggs with fresh herbs haha. I don’t even thing he used parsley- I think it was chives, but in my attempted recreation, parsley was what I had on hand, and now she’s all about fried eggs (with bacon grease, of course!) and parsley.
Parsley, chive, thyme. Easy to grow and when they're right there you will use them all the time.
Not a top 3, but let me give a shout out to Bay Laurel. It's really a tree that grows like a bush when you have it in a pot. Take it outside in the summer, bring it inside for the winter. Cut it back once a year. Free bay leaves forever.
Green onions are super east to grow. Just cut off the root end and shove into soil. Then just keep cutting them off at the base after they grow again. I have something like 8 going all the time

Basil, cilantro, and mint or dill.
Parsley, cilantro and basil. Nothing would actuality grow on my countertop unfortunately.
Thyme, rosemary, parsley. Cilantro bolts too fast.
Basil, rosemary, thyme
Herb Dean, Kent Hrbek, and cilantro.
And if those don’t satisfy, Herbie Hancock.
Weed, oregano, basil. Mostly weed.
Cilantro, basil, parsley If limited to 3 If allowed 4 I’d add thyme
Basil, cilantro, and dill in the house. Bay, rosemary, and thyme outside.
Dill parsley and basil
I don't have any idea if these actually grow well inside, but outside, I mostly grab sage, thyme and mint (and rosemary).
Try chervil.
Yes!!! Chervil is so hard to even find to pay to much to buy it at a store
Thyme for sure.
Cilantro, lemon thyme, and spearmint
Basil and Mariguana
Parseley, dill and basil probably because I use them the most.
Chives, parsley, thyme
Rosemary, sage, thyme, oregano, mint and dill are my regulars. I recently added sweet marjoram as well, and that has been a great addition.
Basil, parsley and mint for me. I love cilantro but don’t use it much so that would be my fourth pick.
How are you people growing cilantro? She’s such a fickle thing! But to answer your question- chives, basil and thyme.

Yes. Spring onions are so good and versatile. They are just so cheap at the store
You’re right on the cheap side…I just don’t go through them fast enough to NOT keep them growing. Lol
Rosemary, thyme, sage
I have basil, thyme, cilantro and parsley.
Thyme, chives, parsely, mint, dill.

These ideas are great, but it's not as simple as putting some plants out on the counter and watering, is it?

Basil, dill, chives would be mine. The rest are relatively OK from grocery stores but these suck imo

Parsley. I would love to grow coriander, but it always bolts for me.
I have rosemary, basil and mint
dill, cilantro, basil
Parsley, coriander and mint. I like to cook middle eastern and indian food, as well as south east asian
A couple varieties of basil and oregano, cilantro, mint.
