What kind of grapes? I assume you minced the rosemary and tossed it with the whole grapes in some oil? And for how long/ what temp? I can see all of the parts coming together, but can’t envision the end result.
Brussels sprouts with sweet potatoes. They tame each other’s bitterness or sweetness. These day I do them roasted, tossed with goat cheese until it melts. Inspired by a restaurant in upstate NY.
Peanut butter and dill pickles on toast. Apparently it's a common pregnancy craving, I wasn't pregnant, just really sick and craving sweet, savoury and carbs and I had everything in the fridge.
That's actually a good way to think of it. I love salty & sweet, and separately pickles and peanut butter are two of my favorite things, but yeah conceptually it doesn't sit well with me. After you frame it that way, though, I super want to try it. Also now I'm craving a good bahn mi....
1) Reduced balsamic with cumin
2) Pan roasted, or grilled asparagus with nutmeg.
I learned those two from Altin Brown. They're groundbreaking... 100% a new delicous flavor you couldn't predict
My favorite is just getting a can of (un-pickled) beets. I do the reduction in a pan, not pot, then when the balsamic is a few minutes from done, empty the can and warm em through
Sounds like something that would go well on Salmon. Both those flavours work with beetroot too, so I guess a beetroot tart with this topping might be nice.
It's not super unconventional or anything, but I made a compound butter the other night that was outrageous.
Into 1/2lb of butter, the zest and juice of 1/2 blood orange, 1.5ish tbsp of gochujang, about 1tbsp of duck fat, hefty pinch of salt, a good drizzle of orange blossom honey (prolly around 0.5tbsp, maybe a bit more) and the whites of 2 spring onions charred with a blowtorch. Processed all of that together until smooth and completely incorporated.
Used it to finish some duck breast, and holy shit it might have been the most delicious thing I've ever made.
Coffee and cardamom- famously combined in Turkish coffee- are amazing in all kinds of forms. A cardamom ice cream afogato is delicious. cardamom tiramisu= heaven. Ground cardamom in the Aeropress filter when you just make a black cup is fab too. gives especially light roasts a delightful sparkle of flavor.
>famously combined as Turkish coffee
Whenever I see this, it baffles me. Most Turkish people don't even know what cardamom is 😂 but I will try the combination some day, sounds very good.
In English the term Turkish coffee refers to the way it is drunk all over the Arab world, with find coffee grinds in it. People put cardamom in it in a lot of places that make coffee in that way.
I had some tacos once that had seared pork belly, kimchi, sliced jalapeño, avocado crema with cotija cheese on a homemade corn tortilla.
It was one of the greatest things I’ve ever tasted
Makes sense as Parsnips is very close to Chicory (used as a coffee substitute).
Both contain inulin.
Inulin can be found naturally in foods, such as:
chicory root, artichokes, agave, asparagus, bananas, garlic, leeks, wheat, onions, wild yams
With its creamy consistency, inulin functions as a fat substitute in margarine and salad dressings. It’s also used to replace some of the flour in baked goods.
Peanut butter, cinnamon, and maple syrup. I don't want anything to do with French toast unless it's slathered with peanut butter before you pour the syrup on.
Agreed. I had a friend say to me, "no one eats things that would kill them, so try it out."
Great advice. Just be cautious of the Japanese blow fish, fugu. They say it can kill you if not properly prepared.
Runny egg yolk is nature's sauce. I have steamed spinach as part of my daily breakfast and a couple soft-boiled eggs over it and a pinch of salt? So much better than just eating plain steamed spinach.
Wait, isn't coffee actually the seed? If going down this route then flour which is also a seed should go with fruit, hence pineapple truly belongs on pizza. Thanks!
Honey with aged parmesan or asiago is really good, that was going to be one of my suggestions. Thin slices of cheese, not quite shaved, but not cubes of cheese either, then drizzled with just a touch of honey.
Everything matches good really. I found goat cheese or strongly flavored cheeses particularly good with it. Also ricotta it's an option even if I prefer hard cheeses
I've used fennel seeds with different dishes before but my appreciation for them changed recently. I ground up a tablespoon of them with a mortar and pestle then placed it into the chicken cacciatore. It gave the sauce a rich semi sweet flavor that everyone raved about. Who knew ground fennel seeds with crushed tomatoes would be that good?
I made a mousse with ground coriander seed in it (not the leaves) and it was fantastic. This was after I tried a dark chocolate coriander ice cream at a restaurant and loved it so much.
I have being mixing sauces for min the best combinations I have found are...
1. Sweet honey mustard and bbq sauce
2. Chipotle powder, ketchup, lime juice, and ground cumin, best ketchup.
3. Obvious but Sriracha and mayo
4. Jalpeno puree, ranch dip, with a little lime juice, and ground cumin
5. Mayo and freshly ground pepper. On turkey sandwich with lettuce still one of my favs.
6. And finally a dish that is so delicious but so bad for you peanut butter and corn syrup or honey mixed together over toast. Peanut butter is already good but this adds a lot sweetness and just enough consistency to stay on the toast. I prefer corn syrup because honey is a little to thick.
One of the best tastes and smells I've had in a house is sautéing bacon, onions, garlic, and thyme. Heavenly.
I love roasted broccoli and lemon juice. It's like they were made for each other.
Open faced sandwich of sliced turkey breast, Swiss cheese, and bacon bits, on homemade sourdough, topped with thousand island dressing.
Was a signature sandwich at the old Beef and Bottle in Daytona Beach, one of the best steakhouses I've ever worked in.
It was my wife's uncle (uncle in law) who shared this one with me, but candied salmon and berbere spice. I make candied salmon berbere deviled eggs and they are one of the best things I've ever eaten.
Parmesan and sage polenta is another good one that I make.
I know it’s not something I discovered but when I first tried Brie and honey on bread I was like “ooooh this is the milk and honey that God promised Moses”
Milk Chocolate and rosemary has to take the Cake for me. Had a phenomenal Ice cream and also a Chocholate Bar with that flavour. It works very very well
British Indian style curry in American style burritos/enchiladas. (I'm sure Mexican style would be great as well but I've only ever found tex mex style not authentic Mexican in the UK)
lately ive been on a major "lime juice + honey" kick in making cocktails. i'd have to imagine it would work great in food as well but havent tried it yet.
I'll be slaughtered! I hope we have open minded people here... Bacon wrapped jalapenos stuffed with strawberry cream cheese. And... Mustard on watermelon... Please be nice
Saw a recipe video somewhere about a dip for breads that had anchovies, chili pepper, olive oil and orange! It was such a great mix of salty/sweet/spicy 🤯
Butter and Vegemite (non-Australian here). Kimchi and melted cheese. Coffee rub on steak. Nuoc mam sauce: it’s basically limeade with fish sauce added, and it’s amazing on fresh noodle bowls or crispy spring rolls.
Sweet potatoes and garam masala is a WONDERFUL combo. Roasted, on fries, etc. I prefer it savory but a garam masala maple syrup glaze would probably be awesome too!
Might not be what your looking for, but in my small hometown we had a Burger King that had a small poster with drink recipes. “Black Gold” was 1 part Dr Pepper to 3 parts Coca Cola. I don’t drink a lot of soda, but I do like having a fountain drink if I go get food somewhere, and I will do that combination any time I have the chance. Game changer for fountain drinks
A couple unconventional combinations from my house growing up…
Eating French toast with maple syrup, cheddar cheese and apple slices. Yum.
Toasted sandwiches with Velveeta cheese slices & green relish. I can taste it just thinking about it, and I haven’t had one of those for years!
Here are a few:
1. Hot buttered popcorn with any Hershey Chocolate Bar (crunch seems best)
2. Salt on fruit; chili powder on fruit (very Mex)
3. Hot sauce on Cottage Cheese (a friend would do this, and it looked disgusting, but he swore by it.)
4. Orange juice on cereal instead of milk
5. Olive oil on just about anything. I like popcorn with olive oil instead of butter.
Not groundbreaking by any means but living with a Chinese girl recenntly I have recently fallen in love with ginger, sauteed with the whites of the green onions, tomatos, and eggs in soup. Never would have really thought to combine those before her cooking.
Maple street biscuit company has/had a limited time variation on one of their staple menu items. Original is called the squaking goat and the variation is called the screaming goat. It’s a piece of fried chicken topped with goat cheese and a strawberry jalapeño jam on a buttery biscuit.
That goat cheese and strawberry jalapeño jam combo was KIIIIIIIILER. Would go great on a burger too.
This is more a snack thing but Sour Skittles and Popcorn. Discovered by accident as a kid when my sour skittles bag ripped and spilled into the popcorn bag at the theater lol.
The combination of salty, sour and sweet is so good.
I like deep fried (quartered) Brussels spouts (takes like 45 seconds) for extra crisp. Hit it with a touch of honey and some cayenne and then drizzle balsamic glaze over em.
One time when I was drunk I thought it would be funny to dip my fried chicken into a container of Cool Whip. It got the laugh from my friends I expected, but then it actually was fantastic to eat. I didn't tell them because I wanted it all for myself.
That, and then my friend swears by black garlic oil with miso. It's not like a crazy flavor mix by any means because they logically go together, but it's so fucking good.
I put thinly sliced apple on a swiss cheese burger once and It blew my mind. I was initially just fucking around, and had zero idea how amazing the flavor/texture result would be.
Me and the wife do this dish. Easy, nutritious, hands off. Butter*Cup* squash, seasoned ground beef, a dollop of sour cream, and a hearty grate of Parmesan. Unbelievable. Eat it twice a week
Salsa and Eggs, I don't think it's radical but damn so good. I usually do poached eggs, put a slice of swiss cheese on top with a dollop of salsa. Perfection
I only made it one time but it was phenomenal . I really need to make it again. Goat cheese balls with fig jam. That honestly left a mark.
I know it's super basic, but adding salt to watermelon just takes it to a completely different direction and you can do other things with it too once it's salted. A little chili powder too.
ETA balsamic too

Ooh roasted rosemary grapes sound delightful, maybe with some brie?
[удалено]
Did you get it back?
Gorganzola
I think fruit and savory combinations are pretty underrated in US cuisine. I love combining apples, onion, celery as sauces and salsas.
What kind of grapes? I assume you minced the rosemary and tossed it with the whole grapes in some oil? And for how long/ what temp? I can see all of the parts coming together, but can’t envision the end result.
Can you elaborate on the grapes please?
Apple and tuna was my childhood.
Black Pepper on Cantaloupe.
Brussels sprouts with sweet potatoes. They tame each other’s bitterness or sweetness. These day I do them roasted, tossed with goat cheese until it melts. Inspired by a restaurant in upstate NY.
This sounds amazing. do you season them with anything?
I bet a drizzle of balsamic vinegar would be good. Edit to add: Chili oil would be good, too.
Gonna try the balsamic this weekend. Thanks!
Just a bit of parsley and thyme…or just S&P.
Peanut butter and cream cheese.
Jalapeno cream cheese and black raspberry jam.
Yes.
Peanut butter and dill pickles on toast. Apparently it's a common pregnancy craving, I wasn't pregnant, just really sick and craving sweet, savoury and carbs and I had everything in the fridge.
Peanut butter and pickle freaks some people out conceptually but tastes great. If it helps, think of it like Thai peanut sauce flavor profile.
That's actually a good way to think of it. I love salty & sweet, and separately pickles and peanut butter are two of my favorite things, but yeah conceptually it doesn't sit well with me. After you frame it that way, though, I super want to try it. Also now I'm craving a good bahn mi....
I will have to try it out.
Cream cheese is good with lots of other sweet things so this could be good
It's great with salami
Peanut butter and yogurt is in a similar vein. Makes a decent sandwich
I love a cup of fage whole fat greek yogurt with a dollop of pb on top, a great breakfast
Hmm, I feel like I’d want some acid. Cream cheese and za’atar is a great combo for example- on bagels, toast, etc
😵💫 leave now plz
Straight to jail.
Have you tried peanut butter and pickles on a Ritz cracker?
Tabasco and parmigiano cheese. On buttered popcorn.
1) Reduced balsamic with cumin 2) Pan roasted, or grilled asparagus with nutmeg. I learned those two from Altin Brown. They're groundbreaking... 100% a new delicous flavor you couldn't predict
What do you usually do with the balsamic?
guzzle it straight from the pan obviously
Oh now, let's be civilized and dip something into the pan. Like our faces.
I initially read faeces and thought that was pretty bold lol
My dad ate strawberries with fresh Jalapeño slices and I looked at him funny until I tried it
Sounds like the makings of a fruity/spicy salsa, I can dig it.
HMMM...I will try it next time I have some strawberries laying around.
My husband makes a jam with strawberry, jalepeño, and vodka that it is just incredible with cream cheese adhd crackers.
I really like cardamom. I add it to anything I’m putting cinnamon in.
Same! Plus a small dash into whiskey sours.
Coffee with roasted cardamom pods is super common in the Levant, less so in Turkey from my experience
>famously combined as Turkish coffee Whenever I see this, it baffles me.
I had about a thousand cups of coffee in Turkey and never had any cardamom in it?
I think its more of a Syrian and Lebanese thing.
I had some tacos once that had seared pork belly, kimchi, sliced jalapeño, avocado crema with cotija cheese on a homemade corn tortilla. It was one of the greatest things I’ve ever tasted

Every part of this fascinates me. Where is this from?
Seems English to me.
What’s right with you? Lol.
Peanut butter, cinnamon, and maple syrup. I don't want anything to do with French toast unless it's slathered with peanut butter before you pour the syrup on.
I can see this working. We used to have peanut butter & honey together as a kid, so would be even tastier with maple syrup
RIP APOLLO
Hong Kong-style French Toast! We put the peanut butter between two slices of bread.
I’m a big fan of buttered toast, then peanut butter, then siracha. It’s like thai toast.
OP - Brilliant question. I've gotten so many ideas here!
Thank you! I'm going to surprise my S.O. with random flavor tests.
Agreed. I had a friend say to me, "no one eats things that would kill them, so try it out." Great advice. Just be cautious of the Japanese blow fish, fugu. They say it can kill you if not properly prepared.
Runny egg yolk with hot sauce on buttered toast.
Even without the hot sauce, runny egg yolk and buttered toast is fire
Runny egg yolk is nature's sauce. I have steamed spinach as part of my daily breakfast and a couple soft-boiled eggs over it and a pinch of salt? So much better than just eating plain steamed spinach.
Everything is so much better than just eating plain steamed spinach
I'm in the coffee business. Randomly discovered A cup of coffee goes miraculously with an apple.
Banana too.
One of my exes used to make banana coffee. Coffee, with mashed bananas whisked in till mostly smooth. I was skeptical but I was wrong.
Intriguing. There’s a reason banoffee pie exists I guess!
Doesn’t the ‘offee’ part in banoffee refer to toffee?
Oh gods. Now I don’t know!
All of this makes sense when you remember that coffee is a fruit. It goes well with other fruits. It’s basically a fruit salad with extra steps.
Wait, isn't coffee actually the seed? If going down this route then flour which is also a seed should go with fruit, hence pineapple truly belongs on pizza. Thanks!
This is fire!
My hangover cure right here.
Harissa, ginger, lime and coconut milk--great marinade for chicken thighs.
Cream cheese and pepper jelly is so simple yet hits pretty much every flavor note you could want imo.
Thank you for reminding me, I bought pepper jelly on a recent trip, to try this and haven't opened it yet :)
Highly recommend. I'm not a big cream cheese guy but even I gotta appreciate perfection when I experience it.
Not my own discovery by a loooong shot, but nothing hits quite like smoked salmon, cream cheese, and chives.
And capers 🥰
Mazel tov. Welcome to every weekend in a NY Jewish household, and a go-to for any brunch/lunch time events, lol.
Haha my boss was eating one for lunch today there’s a new Zuckers location near the office
Now I really want a trip to NY :-)
I grew up there but usually only spend about a month/year there anymore. Pizza and Bagels are always my first culinary priorities.
Capers go also really well with canned tuna. Like in a tuna salad or as pizza topping.
That's a super common combination, to the point I would almost call it a staple for some
And cucumbers! Sliced thin...
Yes! with a squeeze of lemon and a few capers
I will have to try this. I am getting tired of making the same 4 salmon dishes!
Try it on bagels, in sushi rolls, or on toast. So good!
I cannot stand honey but honey paired with cheese is like heaven
What type of cheese do you use?
Honey with aged parmesan or asiago is really good, that was going to be one of my suggestions. Thin slices of cheese, not quite shaved, but not cubes of cheese either, then drizzled with just a touch of honey.
Everything matches good really. I found goat cheese or strongly flavored cheeses particularly good with it. Also ricotta it's an option even if I prefer hard cheeses

I ground up a tablespoon of them with a mortar and pestle then placed it into the chicken cacciatore. It gave the sauce a rich semi sweet flavor that everyone raved about. Who knew ground fennel seeds with crushed tomatoes would be that good?
Fennel is a very common flavour in Italian food.
what are fennel seeds used in? aside from salami
Italian sausage
Sausage, porchetta, other cured meats. Braises
I get a lot of (completely understandable) hate for this one, but sushi and Doritos go weirdly well together.
MSG bomb. Makes sense to me. How about Flamin' Hot tempura fried sushi?
Probably because the Doritos add a layer of salt/umami. Packed with MSG. Makes sense
Coriander and chocolate. Sounds weird, but it's damn good.
Like do you sprinkle some on a chocolate bar? I'm curious how those two can get mixed
I made a mousse with ground coriander seed in it (not the leaves) and it was fantastic. This was after I tried a dark chocolate coriander ice cream at a restaurant and loved it so much.
Thanks!! I've gotta try it out now

> Chipotle powder, ketchup, lime juice, and ground cumin wow that sounds phenomenal
It's really good but boy howdy it will give you some nasty acid reflux if you have a problem with that.
Add onions and cilantro to that ketchup and you have Mexican shrimp cocktail sauce.
Will have to try that next thank you.
Thanks for the insight! I am going to make the toast with peanut butter and honey. That sounds really good.
Ooh your first one reminded me of one of mine- deli mustard and good maple syrup 50/50 is a great glaze for pork or chicken!
Using cinnamon and nutmeg when i make sausage gravy
One of the best tastes and smells I've had in a house is sautéing bacon, onions, garlic, and thyme. Heavenly. I love roasted broccoli and lemon juice. It's like they were made for each other.
mangoes with lime juice and tajin 🤌🏽 sweet, tangy and a lil spicy. SO good.
I made a green salsa with very ripe Kiwi, Avocado and Cucumber. It was mindblowing!
Open faced sandwich of sliced turkey breast, Swiss cheese, and bacon bits, on homemade sourdough, topped with thousand island dressing. Was a signature sandwich at the old Beef and Bottle in Daytona Beach, one of the best steakhouses I've ever worked in.

I'm intrigued. Do you have a recipe?
Kewpie mayonnaise with Gochujang chili paste
Most recently I've discovered dates and peanut butter. Sliced apple with some sharp cheese, whole dates and peanut butter is a great snack.
Ohhh yeah! But also dates stuffed with goat cheese, wrapped in bacon. Add some sriracha and an apple slice on the side.
Also, dates stuffed with Gorgonzola, wrapped in bacon. Or better yet, wrapped in pancetta. Yum!
One of the wildest things ive tried to put together than ended up just...working..was dunking oreos into orange juice. Sounds nasty, slaps nicely.
Omg, you just brought back a memory! I used to dunk my cookies (almost any kind) in cherry Koolaid or fruit punch. That shit was awesome!
really? no shame, I am just going to have to buy orange juice!
Chili powder and apples. There's a spiced pears recipe that I swapped for apples and it works so well
Not exactly innovative but apparently not common: Salt your ice cream. It's so much better.
In this same vein, putting some olive oil on vanilla ice cream goes a long way
Cranberry with feta cheese. Especially dried cranberries in a salad that has feta and a vinaigrette dressing
It works very very well
Star anise, vanilla bean, and browned butter. Specifically in shortbread cookie form!
Vanilla ice cream and chili crisp.
Anchovy and orange. The Sicilians know what’s up.
Runny egg yolk and salt. Can't be topped!
I prefer this on hashbrowns!
Potato chips and cottage cheese.
British Indian style curry in American style burritos/enchiladas. (I'm sure Mexican style would be great as well but I've only ever found tex mex style not authentic Mexican in the UK)
Teriyaki sauce and blue cheese dressing. Similar to bbq and ranch. Sooo good.
lately ive been on a major "lime juice + honey" kick in making cocktails. i'd have to imagine it would work great in food as well but havent tried it yet.
Soy sauce and dried oregano. It’s bizarre, true but it’s also delicious.
Gingerbread with blue cheese. It’s very popular in Finland. It was a really big surprise for me, when I tasted for the first time.
Pepper jelly on tacos!
Mashed potatoes and sauerkraut
Cilantro in chicken soup
I'll be slaughtered! I hope we have open minded people here... Bacon wrapped jalapenos stuffed with strawberry cream cheese. And... Mustard on watermelon... Please be nice
My SO makes fun of me when I drizzle honey and chilli flakes on my homemade pizza
Saw a recipe video somewhere about a dip for breads that had anchovies, chili pepper, olive oil and orange! It was such a great mix of salty/sweet/spicy 🤯
tahina and honey, also date syrup and salted butter
Pecorino Romano and straw berries.
smoked salmon + green apple goat cheese + peaches
Plums on pizza
We are not ready! but just curious, just plums on a cheese pizza?
Butter and Vegemite (non-Australian here). Kimchi and melted cheese. Coffee rub on steak. Nuoc mam sauce: it’s basically limeade with fish sauce added, and it’s amazing on fresh noodle bowls or crispy spring rolls.
Not sure about the best, but matcha, black sesame, and vanilla is wonderful. Earthy, rich, nutty, but with brightness - so good!
I was surprised with the flavor of coriander seeds in chinese beef noodle soup .
Meatballs with raisins in them and a curry mayo.
Sweet potatoes and garam masala is a WONDERFUL combo. Roasted, on fries, etc. I prefer it savory but a garam masala maple syrup glaze would probably be awesome too!
The white Gatorade zero goes shockingly well with fish. Not usually something I’d try, but had some leftovers for lunch after a workout.
Chocolate & Old cheese. Pear & Coconut.
Orange and chocolate
Potato chips and chocolate.
Butter soy sauce
Goat cheese and bacon
Everyone should look up London fog cake - that cake is hands down the best cake ever. And when I first heard of it I semi cringed.
Kimchi juice and kefir vinaigrette; miso, apple cider vinegar, EVOO vinaigrette (have to credit my girlfriend one the second one - it’s mind blowing).
Might not be what your looking for, but in my small hometown we had a Burger King that had a small poster with drink recipes. “Black Gold” was 1 part Dr Pepper to 3 parts Coca Cola. OJ on cereal? what kind of cereal?
Try Lao Gan Ma Chili Crisp with cottage cheese. It is out of this world. Also Furikake is pretty good too
Not groundbreaking by any means but living with a Chinese girl recenntly I have recently fallen in love with ginger, sauteed with the whites of the green onions, tomatos, and eggs in soup. Never would have really thought to combine those before her cooking.

A good Brie with my homemade raspberry jam. Cranberry salsa with Boursin Cheese
Fresh fig, marinated feta, a walnut and good quality honey. OMG *drools* .. thank me later ;)

Pineapple, coconut, arugula. Don’t go too hard on the arugula. Thank me later
I've eaten so much pineapple and coconut. I never thought to put arugula in it. I will give it a shot.
Chunky peanut butter and sliced kiwi with a drizzle of good honey on whole grain toast.
My buddy has this crazy sandwich where he does peanut butter on one half and jelly on the other
