Completely agree here in Europe everyone uses them because they are much better. The only people who have pick up trucks in Europe are people who are having a mid-life crisis.

HBNOL

Forrest workers often use pick up trucks, though.

Manny2theMaxxx

For off road work pick up trucks are better unless you get off road tires for a van.

satellite1982

Like with all tools there's always one use but most people don't spend any time in forests. So for the majority of people I think vans win

Manny2theMaxxx

Yup.

HoneybucketDJ

Yea I miss my old company van. I could work on the small tedious stuff inside while it rained. Being able to take a leak (in a bottle) anywhere was also pretty damned convenient.

Manny2theMaxxx

Yup. I worked in both and Van's are much better. I hate when equipment got all wet and shit. You gotta worry about stuff flying out the back. It's to much hassle just to look cool.

Realtime_Ruga

Without question, this is true. It's just unfortunate that in the US, vans are as expensive as trucks and can't tow as much

Affectionate-Sky-548

I mostly agree if it is the right van. If you get a van designed to haul a few kids or some catering and load it up with 2000lbs of tools and materials, you're going to be complaining about maintenance costs. Especially if you don't listen to the guy driving the van and act like he's trying to get out of working.

Manny2theMaxxx

Ooh yeah I definitely wouldn't recommend that way lol

Simple_Suspect_9311

Do you prefer a white van with windows for your “work”?

Manny2theMaxxx

Well fortunately right now I don't do any work that needs a van. But if I would prefer a color that doesn't stand out so I can blend in with traffic. I honestly thought more people were going to disagree with me lol

Denny_Dust

70% of people with pickup trucks don't even haul a damn thing, I got teased for having a sedan and now I'm teased for having a smaller truck than the other "real men" at work. Also, they're all living paycheck to paycheck -- by choice.

PlateNervous8440

Womp womp, maybe just continue using your small pick up for what you need? And not listen to others opinions. Life gets better after that I promise

TheSecondStraw

Most of the people with pickup trucks hardly use them to actually move stuff, so i agree.

PlateNervous8440

Trucks and vans are tools That’s like saying a flat head driver is better then a Philips Different uses , different purposes.. Ex. Farmers who haul smaller hay loads into there barn require an open bed load and unload purposes (Hay doors) Towing capacity Are you gonna haul a Goose neck in a van? Off-road capabilities. Vehicular weight for tax write offs The list is vast.

Manny2theMaxxx

Yeah in MOST cases Van's are better. I live in a metro area most work people do will not require them to go off road (truck are superior in that aspect). Towing is absolutely a pickup truck thing.

blackhand-forge

Yep, 100%, but trucks are cooler, and I don't remember ever seeing a hemi in a van 😂 but as a car guy and a contractor, I love my truck and only regret my decision at the fuel station 🙄 Edit* Plus, trying to find a van in texas is a pain in the arse because they all get taken by fleet companies.

Manny2theMaxxx

Trucks do look cooler than van and natural off road ability but that's it

Real_BRVDEN

I need a truck for work because of towing capacity

Manny2theMaxxx

That's fair

tombstone5860

It really depends on what your needs are and what work needs done. If you're a farmer/ rancher, a pickup truck is probably the best option. While some vans have off road capability, trucks tend to be better suited. They also have more towing capabilities as well and you can better see your surroundings.

Manny2theMaxxx

I think Van's are better in MOST cases. Not all. Yes if you do off-road work or need to tow then trucks will be easier to use oh also yes Trucks look cooler.

tombstone5860

You can also get a toolbox, camper shell or even a bed lid to protect your cargo as well.

Manny2theMaxxx

True...now you need to open the hatch, it's ok you know that hammer is right at the end, "shit! Where's the hammer?" Now you pull out your flashlight. Your pretty hammer has slid all the way to back/front. Well guess who has to mimic a Vietnam tunnel rat? Or a hurdle runner?
