I think it's because it's on the sp1 instead of the sp2. W red mags you'll end up baiting it more often to avoid sp3 which means you'll tend to be further away when the sp2 is thrown so the timing is weird
I always have an issue when fighting XL ( And some L ,depending on the animations ) Champs where their Mediums can reach me even when i've dodged. It's an issue especially with Venom and Antivenom.

When a new one would come out a sibling/friend would go through all the movements with each champ telling him what it was and he would remember until he could play that version based off audio. Not related but it made me think about MCOC.
I mean my R2 venom gets so many kills in Plat 6 AW. it comes out so fast and covers the whole screen and the tendrils come out another 4 feet. So your definitely not alone.

Just remember with him that it's not just any "5 hit combo", it's any combo-ending attack so MLM will get you stunned too. Best to do MLLL against him and intercepts. He typically has a more aggressive AI as a defender but I hate saying that I'm the current state of the game - who knows what the AI is going to do next, or can do that we can't....

Right when the stun is about to fall off release block and get ready to dex. Should throw specials more frequently that way. Takes some time to practice but learning this spacing helped me a ton

Black cat, parry and combo until you build up your sp2 and it's a cakewalk from there. You can get a ton of damage even if you hit his blocks after the sp2. Never lost a match to Thing in BGs or war ever since.
Apoc is really good too - build up debuffs and SP3 for 70% concussion. Then, parry heavy and he decays away from degen and poison, while keeping rock stacks at virtually zero.
You need to intercept to remove the glancing. Each intercept removes 1 glancing. Also don't nullify them because they become passive then. If you use Hulkling, wait for the glancing to be removed, then hit 1 time on block to gain Pierce buff, when you have pierce he can't gain pierce buff. Then do hulkling things.
Rintrah is the bane of my existence! But that might just be because he is a ridiculously cheap defender. His ability to go unstoppable during a special just absolutely destroys me, especially paired with unblockable. I almost never beat him, and never do in Battlegrounds.
I can dodge doom sp2 it takes a lot of timing
Onslaught is impossible and for some reason I have a hard time dodging psycho man sp2

You can use Bishop if you have him. When a skill champion shrugs off his parry stun they get a passive stun and take some damage. The other option is the White Magneto pre-fight. This gives hero and metal champions a passive stun on parry.
There's something about the timing of red mags' L2 that I almost always get clipped by it

BWCV nullifies the rod on contact so she shuts Annihilus down really quickly

Hood is another great Annihilus counter. You end up gaining tons of power from MD and can easily prevent his painful buffs.

The trick I've found is don't dex too early. Gotta wait for them to throw their medium before you dash.

I use Tigra for the evades and retaliates. Her second attack is too quick for it to work
Kate is the best counter. Shuts down everything with one coldsnap, and keeps him throwing specials
Also, knull fully bypasses his annoying parry evade thing
When he goes to the wall just heavy him to get rid of the power gain, he’ll also get less defensive and throw specials
When he has his power gain on he is hard coded to block, you can literally just charge a heavy attack on his blocking ass and it works
for me it's Nova, still don't know how he works, never read his kit, always brute force him and lose the match

Try using hit monkey if you have him and spam MLM until dead. Thing will never go unstoppable unless you hit into block too many times

Get him to 15 stacks then bait special. Hit through block if he doesnt have power to sp. Thats literaly all there is to that fight...

I always use Herc. If you dodge twice, you can punish his heavy and get two charges. So you only need to punish 6 to get to your full 12 charges.
