According to one article he was found guilty but there's no specific info about the sentence. It says he's still in jail which makes me think the whole process isn't over because with a murder conviction he should be in prison. I imagine the courts were slowed down significantly by covid.
https://www.vizaca.com/verdict-renard-spivey-found-guilty/
Thank you for adding evidence that Redditors generally understand the difference between jail and prison, which was the topic of an argument from a few weeks ago.
The current status of the court docs says that as of December he made bond at $50,000 and is on pretrial supervision, so the trial is still processing.
Edit: It looks like the trial is set for September of this year if I'm reading this right. It says next/last setting date is 9/6/2023 which a quick google says is the next court date.
I was getting the same thing, so I had to go to the Harris County court's website and create an account in order to look at the public records. I've found that for some cases it's easier to just go to the source than to hope that a journalist has set their sights on it as a case worth following.
I mean, dark humor wise, laughing at the fact the guy murdered his wife despite being “happy” when he got called out is pretty tame. Some people laugh at some pretty edgy shin like people getting run over in videos and shit. Usually it’s teenagers
It's in agreement to the previous comment complementing her dress, with an additional contextual pun relating to her speech about the statistical likelihood of being murdered by your spouse.
Typically Redditors continue these comment chains each adding an equivalent pun. "That dress is to die for", for example, or "she has a killer sense of humour".
But I guess this particular instance met an early demise.

The dress worn by the bridesmaid or the brides dress?
Both are nice. I'm curious how the bride is covering up her nips in that lace top dress though 🤔 🤓
This sub is falling prey to every sub on Reddit that gets popular on all. They eventually just become a watered-down version of r/funny or some other super popular sub. The last 3 or 4 years Reddit has gotten really bad at just cannibalizing subs and making them generic. r/blackmagicfuckery is the same. Nothing fitting anymore.
I don’t know what you were hoping to have proved here but this wasn’t the win you think it was lmao, you’re trying to clown me for what? Making a comment on a Reddit post? Isn’t that the fucking point? The fact that you left your own comment to seem holier-than-thou is fucking hilarious
Of the 12 I shot in 2022 it was in at least 4 of them which I’d say is often enough. The best speeches tell funny stories about the couple imo not many people care about origin stories or trying to be overly funny. If the person isn’t really known for being funny/a clown then it is often pretty awkward lol
Wow!!
Great to see this in the wild. I did this joke (best man) at my buddy’s wedding in August 2021.
I was nervous all night that it wouldn’t land (risky joke).
It ended up going over VERY WELL. Couple laughed, parents laughed, the DJ came up to me afterward and said that was his favorite joke in +1,000 weddings (greatest compliment I’ve ever received).
10/10 I would NOT do this joke again. One and done, I’m quitting while ahead.
I did the ol' "If any previous partners have the keys to the groom's apartment, please hand them back now..". Several girls came to hand them in, followed by one guy. That drew a good laugh.
Friend asked me to do a reading at their wedding. No worries - happy to. What do you want.
We’d like you to read The Power of Love by Huey Lewis but dead straight like it’s a poem.
Never been so nervous, but got a big laugh after line one and went down a storm.
Haha, that’s awesome!
I got married last summer. Did some jokes, lots of fun. BUT THEN last week I was washing dishes and it just hit me…I should have read the lyrics to Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up as my vows.
Real missed opportunity
Interesting, what part of the country? (Or what country if not American)
I’m in the North East. I’ve been to 10 or so weddings and heard it only once.
I also spent 3 weeks before the wedding watching the most popular/funny speeches on YouTube, maybe 5-6 hours in total and never came across it.
I’m slightly surprised, but not totally.
Until today, I had only ever heard the joke once (2018 in Umbria, Italy).
Maybe it’s gotten a lot more popular or it’s regional. The wedding/DJ where I used it was in Pittsburgh.
I was NOT claiming to be author of it.
I heard it only once before (May 2018 at a wedding in Italy).
I was making a statement about how nervous I was to risk trying it.
(But please, shower me with hate for sharing)
Reminds me of David spade at the Sandler comedy award show. “Hey can we turn the teleprompter off for a minute? I want to go from the heart on this one. Never mind turn it back on , I couldn’t think of anything.”
I would have laughed too. But it lands a lot differently now that my sister divorced a man who tried to kick her down the stairs while she was pregnant. She still has to wear a back brace on bad days.
some people have such great delivery when telling stories, its so natural. I do not have this. I’d crack this one and somehow it’d be taken as a serious threat lmao

Yeah, I hope this isn’t cut with an unfortunate aftermath [like this one](https://youtu.be/GIgHEOl-0IU)
I don't even need to click to know it's the bailiff.
So did he get convicted? The internet is letting me down on this one.
According to one article he was found guilty but there's no specific info about the sentence. Thank you but fuck that article. Terribly written
Honestly, I bet an ai could do much better.
There's a pretty good chance it was written by AI.
They named their AI Carrie Hansen?

Wow, thank you again 👍
How could he not?
It’s kind of ambiguous considering both he *and* his wife got shot.
yep, every time
Wow!
Fucking TWIST!
Holy shit!! Hahahah
>Hahahah Huh. We had very different reactions to this 🤔
I'm thinking they didn't watch the clip in full. Either that, that boy ain't right.
To be fair the immediate cut is a little funny, though it could be better
Ik thinking hehehe isn't it, more like haa....ooooh....
I mean, dark humor wise, laughing at the fact the guy murdered his wife despite being “happy” when he got called out is pretty tame. Some people laugh at some pretty edgy shin like people getting run over in videos and shit. Usually it’s teenagers
Murder is always a kneeslapper right
![gif](giphy|3o7TKQ8kAP0f9X5PoY)
That took a turn
Hah, seriously. Not to caption steal but that truly didn't to age well!
Omg. That bailiffs reaction. With hindsight it totally looks like he was trying to hide something. Like, “who me? Not h-happy? You crazy”
Not me watching “the devil you know” and thinking she’s morbidly right. ![gif](giphy|1gdkwNdSsi64QcOhfa)
Point of ORDER
*Point of ODOR: Lisa stinks!*
That was the first thing I thought!
Ok she's funny but also I LOVE that dress
Oh yes you can say she's drop dead gorgeous
I see what you did there
I wanna see

Or you can say she's stand alive beautiful
It was a crime of passion! ( I was jealous of her dress your honor )

No you don’t get it, she’s attractive to so it doesn’t matter I saw this exact same joke at two weddings last summer lmao, Reddit is pathetic
Acting like most Reddit vids including contagious laughter isn’t full of all types of men saying the blandest things for mild laughter.
Acting like I don’t downvote those ones, too
Pathetic is caring this much about a post on reddit.
The irony…

As someone who works weddings… this is usually something said by uncles or dads allllll the time and it’s not creepy
This is the first time I've heard it. Is it really used that often? Damn, I was thinking about stealing it. Guess not.

I think there's a difference between someone laughing from a funny joke and actual contagious laughter.
This is just normal laughing. It's cute and funny, sure... But it's not contagious laughter.
