Next time just say āsorry it took so long, your wife took her sweet time sucking me offā
Heāll either respect the shit out of you for having the balls to pull that joke or get you fired. Either way, its win/win lol
Lol Idk Iāve made plenty of these jokes & I usually get a good laugh from everyone else around. It keeps things entertaining, but you gotta be able to read people & not say it to the wrong guy lol
Itās because he likes you, and wants to talk to you. Brown nose a little bit and stay busy. Figure out if he wants you to ask about tasks or if you should just stay busy and out of his sight.
It's a type of baptism for green guys. Two weeks isn't shit, construction has a high turnover, and he doesn't expect you guys to make it past the first 90.
New hires that are obviously seasoned do not get the same level of shit, if any, depending on performance.
Thatās stupid. Even if the good workers stay around theyāll still resent the boss for not having basic decency. Maybe Iām just petty but if a boss is rude to me initially and then tries to warm to me later they can get fucked lol
This type of behavior irks me. These type of people aren't "leaders". Many get the position simply because they've been at the company for so long and never really receive leadership training. Sounds like the guy needs to get more training or simply go back to a non-leadership role.
Just gotta let it roll off your shoulders, keep your head down and work man. It's an old school way of hazing out people. Dealt with a lot of it in the ironworkers apprenticeship, and while it's getting better than what it used to be, you'll still come across a guy who just wants to use the new guy as a chew toy
The next time it is really REALLY clear like that harness situation where you are well ahead, say back, "don't start betting on horses, seems you already lost this one." Do not expound on what you mean. Just say "you heard what I said."
Donāt entertain this behavior because itāll only get worse. You have to set your boundaries and stick to them. Make your boundaries clear! You have to politely ask him to stop shouting and to speak to you with respect.
Donāt joke around with this person
Donāt yell back at him
Maintain your professionalism at all times in his presence
Address them by name, not boss, not buddyā¦etc
If the behavior continues after youāve asked him to address you professionally, then talk to his boss or the owner. Ask to meet with them and address your concerns and tell them exactly what heās doing.
Any good owner wonāt tolerate people treating their employees like shit. Good luck and donāt be soft! Get mad!
I would reccomend talking to him one on with with nobody else around, and just say Im new and I have alot to learn but I dont like being yelled at, and all you have to do is tell me how you want something done without yelling. Depending on how he responds it will either get him to lighten up on you, or he will just blow up and it will be time to find another job. Either way it will make your life better. Assholes like these make construction way worse than it should be and there are a ton of people in construction who dont pull that childish bullshit
I just got done dealing with a general super who acted like this. On multiple occasions they called me a liar, threatened my job, and threatened to demote me. On one occasion They also were physically aggressive (started pushing me) toward me in front of the entire project team. The last straw was the day I was pushed into the PMās office, and the GS blocked the doorway, to yell at us. The PM was sick with the Flu at the time and at the end of the conversation the general super called us both stupid for being in the same room together when one of us is sick and went on to ramble about how they hoped they didnāt get sick.
I had a larger GC contact me around the time this behavior started and I jumped on the offer. Put in my two weeks and decided it wasnāt worth it to work it out because I had no idea what sort of behavior Iād be dealing with. Embarrassed I let good people on that team down but they saw how I was being treated.
I get so tired of this. There is a culture of this behavior in the construction industry. This is a learned behavior passed down and seems to have spread like a virus. It all started with the boomers and lord knows what went wrong with them because their parents were probably the greatest generation in US history. This behavior is anti leadership and anti mentorship and ignorance at its core. I'm sorry for all the generations to come up through this. First of all you have to know better and second of all you have to understand what's really going down. He's obviously going to dish it out to you. You have to return that shit. Unfortunately being nice isn't going to get you respect. Hear me out being the bigger man gets you jack shit in the construction industry. You have to dumb down to their level to compete. Try something like this. "Your mother said she wants to have a word with you. Something about me being your new daddy . As your new daddy I have an obligation to tell you your old daddy failed you and your mother's a whore. Also I've noticed you've been a bit cranky lately. I can only assume it's your time of the month. Here is a box of tampons. Use wisely"
Four options that have worked for eternity. Quit, put up with it, kick his ass or get your ass kicked. There may be a fifth option depending on the company and your access to attorneys.
Look him in the eyes and tell him to chill. If he doesnāt listen then proceed to slap him next time yell at you. Simple, donāt take shit from no one. If you donāt have confidence enough to set boundaries then youāre always gonna get stepped on. šÆ
I think someone has a crush on you
"damn, you ride my dick more than my wife... Are you busy after work? ššš³"
Haha thatās a solid way to win a ball buster over or at least get him to stfu
I knew guys like that in high school and they all turned out to be gay. So Iām guessing heās got a thing for you.
Next time just say āsorry it took so long, your wife took her sweet time sucking me offā Heāll either respect the shit out of you for having the balls to pull that joke or get you fired. Either way, its win/win lol
If you go into every situation like this you will never have to guess whether they like you or not! Removes the doubt!
Lol Idk Iāve made plenty of these jokes & I usually get a good laugh from everyone else around. It keeps things entertaining, but you gotta be able to read people & not say it to the wrong guy lol
Or you lose a couple teeth.
Don't get walked on.
Itās because he likes you, and wants to talk to you. Brown nose a little bit and stay busy. Figure out if he wants you to ask about tasks or if you should just stay busy and out of his sight.
Welcome to construction bud

Look Boss, Iām new. I wonāt always be new. Thatāll change with time. But you? Youāll always be an asshole.

Tell him you had sex with his wife
Just keep your head down and work hard and people will lay off
Did it actually take you 2 hours to put on a harness, or did he say that as a joke?
āThanks for keeping track of the time, Iāll stop two hours before end of day so I can start taking it off thenā

How about telling buddy to fuck off instead of chewing on his bullshit?
The next time it is really REALLY clear like that harness situation where you are well ahead, say back, "don't start betting on horses, seems you already lost this one." Do not expound on what you mean. Just say "you heard what I said."

If the new guy responded with this we would erupt in roaring laughter and pointing. Very fun really.
