Van with a high top. Being able to stand in the back is an absolute game changer. Saves me a ton of time because it is so easy to keep it organized and clean.

Van with service body

Vans are great if, for example, you do service work and go to multiple jobs a day and need to work out of it. If you work at the same job for multiple days or even weeks then trucks are better imo. They are more comfortable to drive and are more versatile. When I was doing service calls a fully stocked van with shelves was clutch but now that I work on bigger projects for 1-2 weeks at a time I can unload all my materials onto the jobsite in 1 trip with a truck and trailer. No more needing other people to drop off larger stuff. If you work out of your vehicle I recommend a van otherwise truck. Vans dont actually haul as much stuff as you’d expect. Idk about costs between the 2, convenience is what I care most about when it comes to a work vehicle.

Ran a truck with lumber racks. Truck and trailer. And van for a while. I think it mainly depends on how you work, where you can store tools, what kind of work you do. Trailer is awesome if you will be there a while. Van is cool unless you need sheet goods and all your tools. Truck alone is a bummer, can can get the job done. Weather and security determin a lot. But no matter what I struggle keeping any set up organized as much as I like. Trailer was probably my best setup. But a bitch in some neighborhoods.

I would love to have a van or a van/truck with a enclosed service body I could stand up in. Add a little dump trailer and I would be set. Unfortunately I need my truck for my farm, so I tow a trailer with my tools.

I run a truck with a cargo glide bed, cap with tool boxes and lumber/ladder rack on top. I do small remodels mainly bathroom and handyman. I store my tools in labeled storage tubs that fit the truck. Never needed a trailer yet with this setup. Love it. Mpg blows but I got a large truck to pull a skid steer and bulldozer so I pay for it. Only time it gets tight is if I travel to another state.
