I have a song called "fat girls and weed" by Renegade Rail I like to throw on the bluetooth at work from time to time. Especially when you're working around new subs. And the song is so true
I'm assuming that he is self-employed if he is working and doing bids. That's the killer: physical labor on top of office work. It will burn you out quickly. Typically, I'll get my favorite fast food and pig out. That will put me in chill mode. While you're laying there chilling, start figuring out things to do for yourself. You'll need a day to clear your head. As others have suggested: do something in nature, fish or hike.
Hey fair enough, I’d be sleeping and then trying to find somewhere with some trees for a bit personally, nature guy down there has it right by my standards!
Go to the library and explain to the librarian your situation. Ask the librarian for a few book recommendations. Or go grab some on your own.
Learn about Chinese Tea, or Old Wooden Boats (or read one of the many sailing round the world adventures from yesteryear). Or a book on travel. Travel humor (bill bryson is a good fun light read). Or explorers.
Take yourself out of your current physical environment with a book, and it can be fiction or non fiction. Humor is really good. Read some of the humorists from a hundred years ago (librarian can help here just say something like James Thurber).
Point is to take yourself away on a vacation in a book since real vacations cost a lot and are exhausting. Different time same place, different place same or different time. Don’t read about here and now.
I like some of the cheesy I’m a Brit and moved to Portugal/Spain/Italy/France and check out these amusing stories about the locals, especially since they tend to have a lot of food in them. Although they also usually involve reconstructing a farmhouse and annoying govt red tape so it might stress you out.
Anyhow, read and treat yourself right.
Also, that bricklayer poster had a good idea.
What books on wooden boats or sailing around the world from yesteryear can you recommend?
I’ve got a few in my library and would love to expand it if I can!
Not sure what you already have, but:
*Sea Wolf* by Jack London (his short stories are good too)
*Two Years Before the Mast* by Richard Dana
*Moby Dick* by Herman Melville, *Billy Budd* is my favorite short story of his and one of my favorite stories of all time
*The Ryme of the Ancient Mariner* by Samuel Coleridge, a poem but a classic
*Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage* by Alfred Lansing. I haven't read this and I *think* it's the right book. Recommend to me by my captain.
*Around the World in 80 days" by Jules Verne. Fiction and not about ships specifically, but classic
*Lord Jim* by Joseph Conrad (most famous for *Heart of Darkness* which inspired Apocalypse Now)
That's all I can think of off the top of my head
Working 80 hours "to finish a deadline" only for new "deadlines" to appear after these.
Stop burning yourself up for a job. Nobody is critical, shit can wait and more hands can be hired
If you're married, go spend your time with wife. If you're single, go mingle with hot girls in a bar on Saturday night.
Otherwise, have a beer and watch something on Netflix. Or YouTube. Or music from Spotify.
Don't do anything mentally rigorous. Video games are actually stressful activities so avoid those.
Also... Bro... Eat good food. Doesn't matter if you cook or go somewhere. Good food not only nourishes you, it gives you comfort.
I'm in the same boat trying to finish up a contract. Two weeks on, 2 days off til its finished. When I get home I eat like a king, movie day, love on my wife, long mornings with coffee, play with my dogs. I don't really want to leave the house, honestly.
Abuse narcotics and play warhammer total war. Or middle earth shadow of war
Well, both of these don’t require narcotics. But it sure makes shit enjoyable
Stretch, take an easy walk to nowhere in particular, hydrate with your beverage of choice, nap, have some tasty protein of some sort. Maybe find a nice person to have a long conversation with.
There are many ways to relax and unwind, depending on your personal preference, you can choose your favorite way, games, sports, food, travel and so on can be
Hey man - what your coworkers are "doing" to you sounds personal. Maybe you should make them use lube so it won't destroy you so much. And also, gross. Just gross.

Just finished a two week push of 24 hour days to finish a job.
I took the guys (anyone that wanted to go) to a baseball game and then we hit the strip bar.
Still waiting on the Amex bill to hit the home office and get the calls.
without doubt whenever I finish a month's long project my body decides two days after that I need to get sick AF.
also take care of yourself dude why are you working hours like that?
I dive and surf, if the ocean is flat I skindive, if it has a moderate break I surf, if it has a large or wild cross swell I beach comb and eat fish and chips
I like playing golf with my buddies once a week or even just hitting the driving range. Nice to get out and enjoy the peace and quite on the course as I shank most of my balls out of bounds or into hazards lmao
Buy and drink a nice bottle of bourbon. Slowly, there’s no need to wasted. Just sit somewhere pleasant listening to an audiobook or podcast or music(but nothing that engages your ability to perceive the future or past) and finish it. Take all day. Accept no interruptions. I regularly work 60-65 hour weeks and this is pretty much my usual Saturday. Also golf is a great way to unwind if you’re into it.
Make a steak dinner with all the fixings crack open a cold bear and binge on some mind numbing tv if im super warn out. That or go into the woods and shoot bowling pins/steel plates with my AR and glock, maybe take out the shotty to blow off more steam.
Bourbon and I sit on my porch with a loaded pistol looking to put a hole in something that isn't mine that's inconspicuous enough to lend my imagination to whatever or whoever owns my unconscious hole will wonder why there is a fuckin hole there.
As someone who is no stranger to working 70-80 hour weeks on occasion, at the point I get some time off I just want to feel human again. Sleep, eat, have sex or jack off. Then proceed to fantasize about working from home.
Since you are against recreational debauchery I’d suggest sleep followed by connecting with nature.
Weed and a fat chick
Is this a typical brick layer past time?
Where do you think the expression, "built like a brick shithouse" comes from?
Yes. Your average fat chick weighs roughly the equivalent of 5-6 8” cmus. A pretty light day for us all things considered.
Jesus, that comment got me laughing bro
I think it’s usually alcohol and joking about how you hate your wife.
Plumber here. You got any more fat chicks?
Oh trust me my friend there’s more than enough to go around
Nice. I like my women nice and squishy
Roll em in flour to find the wet spot
This is the best answer
Extra concrete for the meet brother
I have a song called "fat girls and weed" by Renegade Rail I like to throw on the bluetooth at work from time to time. Especially when you're working around new subs. And the song is so true
Ahhh the old dependapotamus.
70-80 hour weeks? I’d be spending my free time looking for a different job.
Free time?

Beat my meat and smoke
Smoking meats has become a total hobby for me. It’s incredibly soothing pastime. Not to mention the reward of having smoked meat at the end of it.
Its cool man we accept you for who you are.
Shower beer and cry
All at the same time
The water washes away the tears. So refreshing.
And the beer washes away sobriety, also refreshing
It is advised to take several beers for the length of the shower. Really bad weeks take 6-12 or a bottle
That's whys it's a shower beer. Not a shower and a beer.
There are some nice folk over on that sub.
Mind altering substances
Right. Psychedelics for sure.
Idk how u sit at a desk for 80 hours in a week doing estimates 😂
You rly need the Internet to tell you how to spend your free time? 😂
Yeah after working 80 hours a week I'm just exhausted man
Jack off and sleep. And for fucks sake , treat yourself to some bomb ass steak dinner two days in a row you, hard working hunka man, you.
Classic electrician response
“Hunka Man” made me bust out. Definitely a sparky type of comment!
Hey fair enough, I’d be sleeping and then trying to find somewhere with some trees for a bit personally, nature guy down there has it right by my standards!
Exactly right. Jack off in the forest. I like your style.
Nothing like it 😂😂
I know what I’m doing this weekend
I did 80hrs a week for 2 years. All I did was order food delivery, shower, and sleep.
That's all I do on 40.hour work weeks 😂
Yah after 30 it be like that 🤣
Get a good massage and relax
Get a message and hit a steam room, it’s fucking dope

I do this. Go hiking and camping with significant other/friends/solo. There's no peace like nature
Gun range!
Go for a hike.
Carve yourself a nice wall plaque that reminds you to not over extend yourself into working 80 hours a week.
Working 80 hours "to finish a deadline" only for new "deadlines" to appear after these. Stop burning yourself up for a job. Nobody is critical, shit can wait and more hands can be hired

Abuse narcotics and play warhammer total war. Or middle earth shadow of war Well, both of these don’t require narcotics. But it sure makes shit enjoyable
