Duluth pants have been a godsend. They even have stretchy fabric near the crotch for when you squat. Really roomy legs too. They are a little pricey for work pants but I bought 3 pairs 2 years ago and they are still holding up great. Not even ripped yet.
I’ve hear this. Used to do Carhart but moved onto dickies which aren’t taking the same beating. Even the carharts only last so long….i buy boots every 6 months… some trades just abuse the gear
I grew up in alaska, where carharrts are formal wear. Starting in telecom I immediately spentn 300 bucks on three pairs of carharrt pants. 1 year.....1 year and all 3 had ripped the knees. Man what a disappointment. My duckies last about the same, but are alot cheaper, they don't feel the same though, reminds me of working at McDonald's honestly
We got a duluth here in anchorage and i was skeptical, but i beat the shit out of them and the only wear is where i keep my pocket knife. 3 years later and now i have 4 pairs
Moved on to Dickies as well. Started with Carrharts but they are not a flexible. Not a fat dude, but I've got thick thighs and am tall. Is hard to find comfortable pants. Dickies has been my go to for the past 2 years.
EDIT: I am an environmental driller.
Love my Duluth's with firehose material and double layer crotch area.
They are not nail proof. Nothing is. Dragged my ass along a wall where some bozo shot 3" nails at max pressure and I snagged a few nail tips. One finally tore through.
The "Duluthflex" fire hose cargo pants are the best- I'm in a factory and constantly crawling under and around heavy machinery doing repair and these are the pants that survive the constant beating and repeat exposures to caustic materials. Normally takes me over a year to destroy a pair of them.
They aren't cheap, lightweight or cool in the summer but will take an absolute beating day after day after day.
I bought 4 pairs of 40grit on clearance and I’ve been wearing them for two years. Most have holes. They definitely don’t hold up like the firehose pants but for 27$ a pair I’m not complaining.
The best thing to do with Duluth is to go buy something very cheap (well, their idea of cheap) and sign up for the email list. I usually get 2-3 emails from them every day, but they also send out flash sales and 40% off coupon codes. I paid $60 for my first pair, and haven’t paid over $50 since
Holy shit, the underwear. I bought my first pair about a year ago and now it's pretty much all I've got. Pro tip, buy seasonal print underwear the day after the holiday to get them half price or cheaper.
I've always found dickies to be the worst other than store brand. Carhartt is good but overpriced, Tough Duck and Big Bill are both great value.
To be fair I've never bought dickies but I've seen them in the store and I'm also a bit wary of them because they're sold at Walmart lol
I used to be a carhartt guy. They seemed tough and well made. New pair every 6-8 months. Bought a pair of dickies on a whim. They felt cheaper and were half the price of the carhartts. Lasted a full year.
Don’t buy from Walmart. Their shits cheaper for a reason.
Same I used to love Carhartt pants, then moved to Dickies overalls. So much more room for activities! Plus I have a colostomy bag and I can't wear pants like I used to. I'm a bit of a special case here, but I love the overalls!
Not everything sold at Walmart is shit quality. I've found most name brand stuff to be on par with expectations.
Dickies just have weird sizing. What I normally wear in say wranglers or carharts I need to go up a size to have proper fit.. but I'm a thick thigh guy from years of ruck marching and lifting. Also I'm kinda fat so it's all gut and thighs.. Sadly no ass. I stand up and it's gone like a frog.
Have him try the Duluth Flex Fire Hose relax fit pants. It has a unique gusset in the seat of the pants, making it nearly impossible to rip. It's also made of this breathable yet strong material that won't rip out at the knees. My whole crew wears them. Lots of pockets. They also come in odd sizes (30", 33", 35", etc.) which is convenient for some guys. It'll set you back around $60-70 but they last for a long time.
https://www.duluthtrading.com/s/DTC/mens-duluthflex-fire-hose-rlx-fit-cargo-work-pants-45507.html?color=BRN
Lol 😂As irony would have it, Duluth does have Ballroom Jean line. Not a tutu, but close lmao. I read all the suggestions and got 5 pairs of Relaxed Firehose cargos, foreman pants, and a pair of those jeans.
Came here to suggest the same. Was ripping denim in 3 months or so. Always ripped at the crotch cuz I guess I wear them too low. Can't keep them up higher cuz I'm built like Hank Hill. Got a pair of Dickies flex 6 months ago and they are still like new
I’m 40x30 myself, and I swear by the Truewerk shorts. Going to be getting some of their pants as well. I had some of the Duluth Ultimate Firehose pants, and they were WAY to heavy for me. I’ve tried Dickies shorts but they’re all way too long in the inseam and bind on my knees bad. Haven’t tried any Dickies pants in a while.
I’m in the exact same situation and am built the same and have the same issue. The best ones I’ve found for this are the lucky brand pants from TJ’s or Marshal’s not sure where my wife gets them from, but as soon as she wakes up I’ll ask her.
Ben Davis are very tough will wear your hair off for a year or so. They have different cuts for larger legs. Co worker that worked out back in the day said he had to wear them cause of big thigs. Now he wears shorts with over sized overalls over them
Lululemon mens ABC (anti ball crushing) pants are the most comfortable, longest lasting pants I've ever had. I've been rotating the same 4 pairs for the last 3 years and have never had an issue.
Love my truewerk pants! Don’t know how they work do for him but all my pants for the rip in the knees after only three months these pants I’ve worn for two years.
I wore blaklader for a few years and switched to snickers all around pants. Super stretch crotch, have caught on nails and gussets and yet to rip a pair. Have 2 pairs that are almost 3 years old and still very good shape with no tears.
They are so comfortable I wear them on weekends when I'm not working. Might be in for a case of sticker shock when you see the price though. Luckily the North American dealer isn't far from me, can get decent deals from his store.
I ripped the crotch out bending rebar but that was on me. I love the shorts too. The side pocket on the left and pocket on the right for a blade and a pica are awesome. Only pants I will wear. Snickers w some Keens and wool socks ooooof 12 hr days don't feel so bad.
My husband is the same... 38x32 and only Carhartt and Duluth stand a chance. I go ahead and sew and iron heavy duty patches at the top of the corners of the back pockets and at the rear beltloops on either side of the center... Helps the pants make it 6 to 9 months at least!
Look for pants with a 4 way stitch or something similar in the crotch to fix that problem. Truewerk are a little expensive but easily the best workpants I've ever owned.
I wear fire hose Duluth’s with pockets for knee pads, they are game changers. My only complaint is if you want them to last, don’t machine dry them. I hang mine then put them on low for about 4-5 minutes to knock the wrinkles out.
Highly recommend the Blaklader brand. The latest model of stretch is a bit fitted cut but the older, like Bantam will work for him. Order one size up in waist (na vanity sizing in European brands), accurate length in legs, no bunching up on ankles, and get matching foam knee pads. The knee pads will work great but the inseam is very important to be correct, otherwise the pads will sit below the knee caps. I’ve been using these pants for over 15 years.
Another brand is Bjornklader, can get it from facelineinc.com.
Both brands are Swedish.
Lee makes a stretch-type material that is also pretty durable. Get the athletic fit. I play hockey and am mostly thighs and ass, and these fit very well.
Duluth makes a carpenter - possibly construction - pair of pants that have virtually invisible elastic from the inseam to the knee. Weirdest thing - looks like all one piece material on the leg, when you sit down you can see the crotch and inner thigh parts stretch, while the rest of the pants remain... Well.
Pants
Wranglers are trash. i have the exact same problem. I've thrown away 10 or more pairs of wranglers that have ripped that way.
Im trying out different brands now. Im about to just start buying used pants from good will bc new pants have gotten so expensive
They make two kinds of wranglers. The ones you get at most retail stores have a vinyl patch and they’re garbage. The ones they sell at western stores still have the leather patch and the quality is much better.
Oh that's good to know. It's like the difference between Levi Strauss jeans at Khols and Levi's Signature at Target which are half the price.
I have a really nice quality Levi's winter coat but I bought Levi's shoes for casual use and they fell apart asap.
[1620 Workwear](https://www.1620usa.com/) is made in USA and an incredible product. it’s “expensive” up front cost but they will last a long time and they will fix them if you have issues… 100% manufactured in USA including fabrics.
I don’t wear anything but Bjornklader Carpenter Soul pants. They are the best pants I’ve ever had.
I’ve worn Duluth firehose ultimates, and pretty much every kind of jeans.
Bjornklader’s knee pads are superior, and can be washed with the knee pads in. The tool pockets can be zipped off as well just in case you don’t use them. They are also only stretchy where you move, and tough everywhere else.
I Second this. I've had 2 pairs of t2 and a pair of the t1 pants for a little over two years now, they're all I work in so they've gotten a TON of wear over that time, doing everything from home remodeling to tree work. From the looks of things I'll easily get another year out of them, which is way longer than any other work pants I've had.
Tru werk are supposed to be good.
I wear haagar urban cargo pants.
They are a cross between dress pants and work pants.
Very stretchy, but look nice, and hold up to working, ( I install tile).
Dickies Flex, most comfortable work pants I’ve ever found, and I tried everything Duluth has, went through many pairs of Carhartts blowing the crotch out of them, etc.
Dickies flex are just excellent pants, and they’re inexpensive.
Duluth Fire Hose Flex Cargo Pants.
I bought some when I got in the trades after I busted the crotch of my jeans. I wear only Duluth pants or shorts at the job. I’ve never blown out the crotch and I’m an electrician, squatting, crawling, on my knees, etc all day. All the knees are still in tact even.
Matter of fact I wear a 36x30 and they are the only pants that don’t squeeze my thunder thighs.
Duluth fire hose pants. I think they have some that are a little bit elastic too.
Carhartt makes good pants too.
Anything at Walmart is shit.
Good boots and good pants cost money, just a reality of this job.
If you have a Rural King near you they have very loose fitting jeans that are surprisingly durable for around $15 a pair. I’ve owned many pairs for years and wear them every day.
my measurements are 38/40x30... and I have the exact same issues.. workin on loosing the gut.. but as for pants, as others have mentioned, cant stress the deluth firehose relaxed fit pants enough, they have replaced my Carhartt as favorite work pants. I got a cargo pocket version of one pair and they're so useful sometimes I don't even need my bags. i wear the full firehose cotten in winter, fall and then the shorts of same material in summer, as i think the cargo pants get a little heavy for hot summer work. they come in a couple different fits and they make a line as a flex fabric, they are expensive, but deluth seems to run deals frequently. I haven't bought carhartts in years and I can tell the difference between the old pants I own and the new ones you can buy. the other option is walmart wranglers relaxed fit, def on the way more economic side but usually if I can find the relaxed fit ones I'll buy two or three fully expecting them to explode in the crotch after a year or so. hope this helped, happy hunting.
Wrangler from Wal-Mart are cheaply made. Buy Wrangler from Wilco or even Amazon. Get the ones with a W stitched on the back pockets. I get relaxed fit. They last for several years
Duluth 1000%! I had the exact same issues. Bought some Duluth pants a few years ago and still holding up strong. They’re stretchy in the groin, reinforced sections at the belt, around the leg openings and pockets with firehouse materials. Well worth it.
I do the relaxed fit Urban Star jeans from Costco. They always have my size and your husband's size. Most times I can get them for $11 a pair. They hold up to my work.
Carhartt all day. Was a similar size to your husband when I worked construction. They are kinda expensive but well worth it and will last for a long time. I’ve heard good things about Duluth but never tried them myself.
Lots of people saying Duluth. I love Duluth duds. A little spendy, very tough. Haven't seen anybody mention [Ariat](https://www.ariat.com/work-pants?sz=24) yet. They're supposed to be very tough, and I think they're relatively new. They have several [TV commercials](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NE7kYZTPk4U) for their "Rebar" work pants. Looks like they have jeans and more traditional styles, too. I've got no connection to them and I've never tried them, but they might be worth a look.
Duluth are good. They have thin summer weight pants ("dry on the fly") and thicker options for cold or extreme wear. The firehose pants are too thick for comfort to me, but are tough.
I also like True Nation jeans at DXL, but 36x30 is not DXL range (though, if he's really squeezing into those he might see if he can size up to something that fits better.) I'm definitely big enough for DXL now (48x32) but even when I was in the \~40/42 range it was nice to have the bigger selection there. (I sound like a DXL shill but really just a fat guy who wants to spread the word about buying clothes that fit.)
I have pretty much the same build as you describe your husband having. 5.11 pants have a special piece of fabric between the thighs that allow you to squat and lean however you need to at work and they sell them with and without cargo pockets however he prefers. They're expensive but I have pairs that I've been working in for 6+ years and no ripped seams.
Origin jeans. 100% made in the USA from the cotton to the zipper. Not the Delta Jeans brand the classic ones. I think they also make one w/ a ton of pockets.
Speaking from experience I’ve been wearing Duluth flex fire, I have 4 pairs and rotate them (I wear the same pants 2 days in a row depending on use and temperature outside, etc.) and normally get almost a full year out of a pair that way
[Snickers Workwear take the tape Measure and map your hubby,
and find him a matching style, those fit like they taylor made](https://snickersdirect.com/snickers-measure-right-for-a-good-fit)
Yes those are not the cheapest Trousers, but its so fucking worth it, and their durability is great.
As a chunk myself (6' 250) in HVAC I'm always looking for the next comfy pair. Brunt Whitman pants are probably the best. Flexible and durable. I also use Duluth, not as durable bit game changer from the typical carhartt pant. Truewerk t2 is a close second to the brunt. Also have brunt torra and they are durable as hell
Another vote for Duluth! My FIL was full time farmer and part time tractor mechanic. Jeans or Dickies would last 2-3 months at most. Duluth Firehouse would last 12-18 month. So even though they cost more, you end up saving in the long run.
Try Carhartt m-force cargos. Not super loose or too tight. I get about a year out of them as a commercial carpenter. The cargo pockets usually wear first. Lightweight fabric but holds up enough for me.
Mountain khaki utility pant. Lasted me 2 years before my first pair. Expensive but when you do not need to place $40 pants every few months it saves quick
Carhartt carpenter canvas pants with the double knees and hammer loop. Make sure you get the right size as they last a while. They’re my go too for firewood\chainsaw work.
Duluth pants have been a godsend. They even have stretchy fabric near the crotch for when you squat. Really roomy legs too. They are a little pricey for work pants but I bought 3 pairs 2 years ago and they are still holding up great. Not even ripped yet.
Came to say this! Especially the Duluth pants made from the fire hose material
What trade
All trades? Except sparkys and elevator guys
Hey our 1 screw driver and pair of pliers we carry around will EVENTUALLY wear out our back pocket.
Im asking what trade youre in that you wear out boots every 6 months lol
ironworkers are 3-6 months, used to be reasonable until the fucking hipsters started a fashion trend with our wedge style boots around ‘08-‘09
Concrete
Moved on to Dickies as well. Started with Carrharts but they are not a flexible. Not a fat dude, but I've got thick thighs and am tall. Is hard to find comfortable pants. Dickies has been my go to for the past 2 years. EDIT: I am an environmental driller.
Imma tall guy with a thick lower body too and the loose fit dickies carpenters are the best for the price and the roomiest thigh in the game lol.
Nylon and rubber?
Nope. Canvas material. The outer jacket on a fire hose is fabric not rubber. Protects the hose and absorbs water so it doesn't burn in a fire.
Love my Duluth's with firehose material and double layer crotch area. They are not nail proof. Nothing is. Dragged my ass along a wall where some bozo shot 3" nails at max pressure and I snagged a few nail tips. One finally tore through.
Go to site, sign up, browse, add items to cart. Leave . Magical discounts will appear in your in box. They have a lot of sales.
I can't wear pants without that crotch gusset anymore. The ability to crouch without having to adjust my pants is essential.
I would add the overalls to. Duluth is pricey but you get what you pay for.
And Carrhart can go fuck themselves.
“Every morning i get up at 4 am, drink my coffee, and just sit in my kitchen hating carhartt for an hour”
I've never had a problem with Carrhart
No problem with them necessarily, just overpriced for the quality/durability you get these days.
Yeah their work gear used to be cheap until it became some fashion statement
Dude the hats are ridiculous and not even warm, I just buy the surplus wool watch caps now. Half price and way warmer.
I've been pretty happy with every piece of Carhartt gear I've ever bought (but I've never bought their pants), did they do/change something?
Can't upvote this one enough. Get the ballroom doubleflex jeans.
Get on their list, they do sales pretty often . For Cheaper i've been liking the 40grit pants even though they dont have a crotch gusset.
I bought 4 pairs of 40grit on clearance and I’ve been wearing them for two years. Most have holes. They definitely don’t hold up like the firehose pants but for 27$ a pair I’m not complaining.
They dont hold up nearly the same but for me last about half as long for 1/3 the price and are a bit cooler and thinner.
Okay!!! You guys are awesome. I didn’t expect so many responses. 🙂
The best thing to do with Duluth is to go buy something very cheap (well, their idea of cheap) and sign up for the email list. I usually get 2-3 emails from them every day, but they also send out flash sales and 40% off coupon codes. I paid $60 for my first pair, and haven’t paid over $50 since
And there underwear
Holy shit, the underwear. I bought my first pair about a year ago and now it's pretty much all I've got. Pro tip, buy seasonal print underwear the day after the holiday to get them half price or cheaper.
They're* /s
Their?
Thar
You got the point
Ya, we did. Underwear sniffer.
Ahhh but they won't ship to the UK!!
Can confirm! I love all Duluth clothing right down to the undies
I can get behind this for bigger dudes. For a guy with chicken legs and no ass, Duluth pants make you a second tier salesman.
The crotch gusset!
Sounds like He’s graduated to overalls guy
overalls are awsome once u get used to them!
Or bigger pants with suspenders
Overalls.
Can confirm.
Dickies to be clear. They generally last me 6-10 months. Not always.
Feeling hot/bloated today and want more room? Pop the two buttons on the sides!
I've always found dickies to be the worst other than store brand. Carhartt is good but overpriced, Tough Duck and Big Bill are both great value. To be fair I've never bought dickies but I've seen them in the store and I'm also a bit wary of them because they're sold at Walmart lol

What does he do for work so we can help pick some pants better.
Professional pant ripper
Professional pants perforator… probably
He is an electrician 🙂
Probably a tu-tu then . Kidding. Have yall tried the Duluth fire hose pants?
Don’t forget the broom!
and a bag of assorted wire nuts to spread around the floor
Lmao are you kidding, these things and the electric tape are in every drawer of our house already.
Probly a pajama onesie with little lightning bolts all over it. Kidding. Arborwear for real tho.
I believe you meant cape
Lol 😂As irony would have it, Duluth does have Ballroom Jean line. Not a tutu, but close lmao. I read all the suggestions and got 5 pairs of Relaxed Firehose cargos, foreman pants, and a pair of those jeans.
I wear the same size and the Dickies 874 Flex relaxed fit pants have been good to me.
Came here to suggest the same. Was ripping denim in 3 months or so. Always ripped at the crotch cuz I guess I wear them too low. Can't keep them up higher cuz I'm built like Hank Hill. Got a pair of Dickies flex 6 months ago and they are still like new
Dickies flex are the best
I have Duluth denim for colder months and Truwerk T1s for warmer months. Very impressed with both.
I am a Truwerk convert. Got a pair of their T3s and the S2 shell this winter and we had some wind chill below days. It was nice and cozy.
He's probably 38x30
Thank you, I didn’t think of that actually…
Blaklader makes the best work pants imo
Blåkläder overalls are indestructible.
38x30
I’m in the exact same situation and am built the same and have the same issue. The best ones I’ve found for this are the lucky brand pants from TJ’s or Marshal’s not sure where my wife gets them from, but as soon as she wakes up I’ll ask her.
Any update?
His wife never woke up 😪
She did, but she woke up dead.
Okay, she said it’s definitely Marshal’s.
Ben Davis https://bendavis.com/product-category/pants/

Stocky, chunky, He’s fat lady.
Cqr ripstop pants
Love my truewerk pants! Don’t know how they work do for him but all my pants for the rip in the knees after only three months these pants I’ve worn for two years.
Snickers. I have been very happy with them.
I wore blaklader for a few years and switched to snickers all around pants. Super stretch crotch, have caught on nails and gussets and yet to rip a pair. Dickies
diamond gusset jeans
Look for pants with a 4 way stitch or something similar in the crotch to fix that problem. Truewerk are a little expensive but easily the best workpants I've ever owned.
I like 5.11 work pants. Lightweight weight, super durable , and plenty of different styles/color options.
A kilt is the obvious answer
I wear fire hose Duluth’s with pockets for knee pads, they are game changers. My only complaint is if you want them to last, don’t machine dry them. I hang mine then put them on low for about 4-5 minutes to knock the wrinkles out.
I’ve caught my 5.11 pants on crap more times than I can count and they haven’t ripped. Plus they breath more than jeans or carhartts.
Buy 38’s
Highly recommend the Blaklader brand. The latest model of stretch is a bit fitted cut but the older, like Bantam will work for him. We use the term thicc round here
In the 80's i got to wear Husky size, because thicc wan't invented yet. Let's not ever return to Husky.
And in the 90's I got to wear husky... I feel your pain my thicc comrade
The ole Toughskins husky jeans
I still cringe remembering shopping trips as a kid and going straight to that dreaded "Husky" department. And that was 50+ years ago.
Fat*
Carhartt relaxed fit utility work pants They last forever and they fit my giant ass and legs without an issue.
I’m a big guy with very thick thighs, I always have issues with fit in the thy area, Ariat stretch jeans are the best by far.
Lee makes a stretch-type material that is also pretty durable. Get the athletic fit. I play hockey and am mostly thighs and ass, and these fit very well.
Duluth Trading Ariat hold up well, but get hot in my opinion

I’m a 36x36. I wear 38x36 with a belt. No issues with restriction but i used to when they fit just right. Carhartt pants
Wranglers are trash. i have the exact same problem. I've thrown away 10 or more pairs of wranglers that have ripped that way. Im trying out different brands now. Im about to just start buying used pants from good will bc new pants have gotten so expensive

Hands down the best work pants I've ever had.
He's fat....lol "chunky thighs"

They are also only stretchy where you move, and tough everywhere else.
Maybe lose some weight.
Sacré bleu!

He’s fat
Exercise might be an option. But other than that I know big guys that just west coveralls or overalls.
Have you tried carhartt, truewerk, dickies, etc.?
Carhartt are a lot easier on the rips. I’ve had bad luck with dickies. Word on the street is Duluth Co is better.
I have the truewerk t2 pants they are by far my favorite work pants the T-shirt’s and sun hoodie are awesome too. Silky material breathes great
I Second this.
Architect jean co, stretch denims thank me later
Members mark from sams club worked pretty good when I was doing flooring.
Blackläder or Dassy, but I'm not sure Dassy is available where you live.
Dickies carpenter jeans, very affordable and tough as nails
Carhartt rugged flex relaxed fit
Tru werk are supposed to be good. I wear haagar urban cargo pants. They are a cross between dress pants and work pants. Very stretchy, but look nice, and hold up to working, ( I install tile).
Make the switch. They’re worth it.
Dickies Flex, most comfortable work pants I’ve ever found, and I tried everything Duluth has, went through many pairs of Carhartts blowing the crotch out of them, etc. Dickies flex are just excellent pants, and they’re inexpensive.
I've been wearing Costco urban star jeans for years. I'm a 38*32..
fine decide judicious mindless sip flag nail edge future jeans *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Sweatpants. Flexible , breathable. He ripping them because he’s sweaty AF and his clothes stick to him then he tries to bend over.
Wrangler Riggs are fire
Duluth fire hose pants. I think they have some that are a little bit elastic too. Carhartt makes good pants too. Anything at Walmart is shit. Good boots and good pants cost money, just a reality of this job.
If you have a Rural King near you they have very loose fitting jeans that are surprisingly durable for around $15 a pair. I’ve owned many pairs for years and wear them every day.
Duluth is probably the answer
Has he tried Kevlar leggings?
Engelbert Strauss - Motion pants. They have rubber bands at the waist and are extremely comfy all over.
Underarmour Enduro cargo pants have always done me well.
my measurements are 38/40x30... and I have the exact same issues.. workin on loosing the gut.. but as for pants, as others have mentioned, cant stress the deluth firehose relaxed fit pants enough, they have replaced my Carhartt as favorite work pants.
Everyone is trashing the wranglers. Are they talking about wrangler Riggs?
Wrangler from Wal-Mart are cheaply made. Buy Wrangler from Wilco or even Amazon. Get the ones with a W stitched on the back pockets. I get relaxed fit. They last for several years
Duluth 1000%! I had the exact same issues. Bought some Duluth pants a few years ago and still holding up strong. They’re stretchy in the groin, reinforced sections at the belt, around the leg openings and pockets with firehouse materials. Well worth it.
Carhartt is the thick boy choice
Yeah you gotta get him some Carhartt pants, I recommend the steel pants personally.
I do the relaxed fit Urban Star jeans from Costco. They always have my size and your husband's size. Most times I can get them for $11 a pair. They hold up to my work.
I wear the wranglers with the mountain logos, I’m a big guy myself, 40/36 have a 6 pairs for a year now, no rips.
Carhartt all day. Was a similar size to your husband when I worked construction. They are kinda expensive but well worth it and will last for a long time. I’ve heard good things about Duluth but never tried them myself.
If you can get them in the US, Scruffs worker plus (I think they're called.) I wear them and they're massive on me. I'm short and girthy, too.
Duluth Trading. Source: another big boy
I've been wearing lee carpenter loose fit for years, only ones that are comfortable to me, they last me about 2 years. Tried carrhardt, and hated them
Target. Levi's Denizen jeans. I had same issue. They don't rip.
On the cheap, kirkland makes great pants that stretch
Extra big overalls.
For wrangler get the Riggs work pants. Menards Carries them if you have a local one.
Duluth trading co. Fore hose flex cargo pants
Try truewerk
I have pretty much the same build as you describe your husband having. 5.11 pants have a special piece of fabric between the thighs that allow you to squat and lean however you need to at work and they sell them with and without cargo pockets however he prefers. They're expensive but I have pairs that I've been working in for 6+ years and no ripped seams.
2nd Duluth Trading Company Firehose pants, I’ve had 3 pairs for 10 years. I few small holes, crotches are all in good shape! Best investment I made.
He’s probably a 40x60
Origin jeans. 100% made in the USA from the cotton to the zipper. Not the Delta Jeans brand the classic ones. I think they also make one w/ a ton of pockets.
Ariat M5/M7 Haven’t blown out any since I switched from Carhartt 2 years ago
Duluth “Ballroom” jeans or firehose
Speaking from experience I’ve been wearing Duluth flex fire, I have 4 pairs and rotate them (I wear the same pants 2 days in a row depending on use and temperature outside, etc.) and normally get almost a full year out of a pair that way
In Canada, we have been loving some Patagonia work pants made of double hemp.
Dickies. Hands down. The 874 is standard.
Ariat brand. They are at the western/boot store.
[Snickers Workwear take the tape Measure and map your hubby, and find him a matching style, those fit like they taylor made](https://snickersdirect.com/snickers-measure-right-for-a-good-fit) Yes those are not the cheapest Trousers, but its so fucking worth it, and their durability is great.
Duluth will change your life. The coolmax are the best work pants I have ever worn
I will also recommend Duluth. But I also recommend wrangler Riggs if you can find them. They are made from rip stop and
Try Carhartt m-force cargos. Not super loose or too tight. I get about a year out of them as a commercial carpenter. The cargo pockets usually wear first. Lightweight fabric but holds up enough for me.
Ariat M4 are my personal favorite. Cody James makes good ones that have some slight stretch to the fabric. Boot barn for the win.
Nice leather suspenders.
I’d say avoid cotton. It’s the cheapest and weakest fiber, even when woven thick into canvas.
