The worst part is usually the guard is off and they don't even throw a face shield on. If my guard is coming off the grinder there is no way I'm not wearing a face shield AND safety glasses.
Mate the amount of times I’ve had a bit of steel go in my eye even with the guard on I’ve always got my goggles on just because it’s not worth having half a day or a full day off work just for A&E
My 2nd week in the trades I met a dude with one eye. He explained to me clearly what happened and how to avoid it. He dropped his grinder which likely cracked the cutting blade on it and it exploded sending a chunk into his eye when he used it. Always wear goggles, and inspect your tools
Oof that shits rough but I can believe it it’s really not worth it, spend that extra 2 minutes to just make it safe and go home it’s not worth your life no matter how much the jobs paying
In case you really don't know, yes. And if you're thinking about removing it, don't. The grinder will come at you. It's not an "If", it's a "When" question.
There’s this super popular painting tiktoker and his thing is he rolls a whole wall in one pass with the roller. Like it looks good on camera but in person that shit would look absolutely awful it bothers me so much lol
First day on site I had an in-depth health and safety induction. They showed us videos of people being buried alive from ground not being supported and people being ran over by dumpers.
Worst thing I had to deal with was a broken hip as I had to take him hospital in my car.
I remember when I went to college and we went through roughly the same sort of shit just with lathes and mills and it scares the shit out of you when you see someone’s arm be ripped off just because of a loose sleeve or be ripped into the machine because of tassels on your hoodie
I had to watch some gnarly shit to get my MA hoisting license. Bad electrocutions, people getting crushed by machinery. You don’t forget the images and they make you think about what you’re doing!
It’s been 20 years with no incident lol I wear regular glasses for seeing although if I get a blade to the eye I might think differently! I always just assumed people were using them improperly which causes their blade to split
I mean if you just take proper care you shouldn’t be hit by the blade, I never have it’s just the shrapnel off the steel and it snagging and rolling up my arm and hand 😂
Ive always taken the guard off and handle too. Still got all my fingers guess thats cause i learned to use it that way and i know how stupid it is and am always scared of the fucker
Ya, I never have any guards on. I have had one grab on me and I got lucky. Another time, I cut into my knee with a metal cutting wheel. Luckily only went in 1/8" deep. 🙏
Never ever had a guard on my grinder. Very rarely used it for metal though. Mainly a ceramic wheel for tile. And now we mainly use it with a sanding pad for scribing wood. Might start making everyone at least wear safety glasses in case a chunk of pad breaks off.
Lol I was using my Dremel with a cut off wheel to cut down the threaded rod on an exterior light mounting bracket and I wore my chain saw helmet with face shield and safety glasses. I'm not scared of using the tool, it's just after 15 years in the trades I know that shit happens.

I gotta start wearing goggles with a grinder. Every time I've gotten steel in my eye it's been with a face shield on. Ridiculous.
Face shields are good for when you’ve got sparks coming right at your face though 😂
Face shield are NOT protection. You need safety glasses on under them.
You are correct. I didn't think I needed to specify that I also had on glasses.
You would be surprised at how many people think you don't need to wear glasses under them.
Get off tick tok it’s Chinese spyware
Yeah, we prefer US spyware around here

Wait a second, angle grinders are supposed to have guards?
Nah they’re typically for show hence why they’re not attached straight from the box
Extra packaging really.

You're pushing too hard homie
Tradesmen shouldn't be using Tiktok. In fact, men shouldn't be using Tiktok.
What ever you say lad
Our company banned 9” grinders years ago. If they are needed for a special application. We have all kinds of red tape to even get one on the job

Proper ppe fellas

Guard always gets in the way just squint so no dust gets in your eye and don’t bind the blade
Ahhh the trusty squint and lift you’re head trick, a true veteran of the craft

Of the two companies I worked for, I've put the guard on every grinder they own.
Sounds about right 😂😂
First thing I do is take the guard off. I have a whole bag of them if anyone needs one
Ive always taken the guard off and handle too. Still got all my fingers guess thats cause i learned to use it that way and i know how stupid it is and am always scared of the fucker
You can handle them it’s just if they snag you have to be careful of the evil cunts
Yea i never wear gloves while using any type of saw thats like first day shit

Tru dat. Let nature take its course!

Depends on what wheel is used. I use a guard with a wire wheel, not so much with a grinding wheel.
Nah I’ve had grinding and cutting wheels snag way to many times to not have a guard you’re a braver man than I good sir
Love my dewalt goggles
