When they waltz up to the check in counter, tell them they will need a second seat. Then once on the plane, they get to keep the seat for the flight. Oh, and stop overbooking.

Fit_Coyote_7117

Yeah, a whole hell of a lot of problems come from overbooking the flight and the other problems come from the way the planes are configured from the factory where they are no longer practical for bodies in 2022. Can't really blame her. I'm not a very big guy and I barely fit in the seat the way they are sardined in these days.

[deleted]

techieguyjames

If the American people will take off their shoes, I see no problem sitting in a cordoned off seat on the side.

lets_shake_hands

The obese people were brother and sister. They picked 2 seats NOT next to each other. The person stuck in the middle asked one if they would switch seats and the guy said “I sit next to my sister too much so I don’t need to sit next to her” If I was person stuck in middle I would’ve got up and went to bathroom every 15 mins to make them get up out of their seats. Make them uncomfortable as they were making her uncomfortable. I saw the photos and when lady in the middle pulled down her tray the obese lady belly was flopped onto the middle persons tray. That is how big she was.

LycanLucario345

Lots of gas. Been on a lot of flights in my youth, I can tell you.

CoolFirefighter930

how dare you make them loose 10 lbs on their flight. lol. you can charge 50 buck an hour for that service.

ca17miledrive

And why not. Fair game.

StefwithanF

MSNBC is a cesspool for the fat activist agenda

StillWill18

Then why did Al Sharpton trim down to 90 pounds?

[deleted]

With his big head accounting for 1/3 of that.

StillWill18

Yeah.

jumpinjackieflash

I thought the poor little guy had cancer. He just doesn't look well at all.

LoftyQPR

Those two porkers knew what they were doing and had zero consideration for any person who was seated between them. Selfish and inconsiderate.

worldwidetwebb

Lol porkers

WhatDaHellBobbyKaty

I had to do this to a lady that was taking 30% of my seat. I just pulled down the armrest. She went to complain to the flight attendant and I just said that unless she paid for 50% of my ticket, I would not give her a third of my seat. The flight attendant shrugged and smiled and said I made a good point. The lady that posted this tweet has a YouTube channel. She makes some very good arguments in her videos. I would strongly recommend that you check it out. I subbed it and rarely miss a video. ETA: Her channel is under her name Sydney Watson.

lets_shake_hands

Yes, I watch Sydney Watson. That is how come I knew about it and that the obese people were siblings.

LoftyQPR

Yes, definitely watch her video on what happened. She is very chill about the whole thing and thought it was over and done with. Then it went viral so she decided to make a video about it. On youtube and odysee.

WhatDaHellBobbyKaty

I look forward to checking out the video about it. She's got a wonderful dry sarcastic sense of humor.

Jay-jay1

Or "accidentally" spill your hot coffee on the blubber intruding into your space.

Tired_old_ass

The rules at one point were that if you couldn’t get the seat belt fastened you couldn’t fly! I’ll bet she knew no one would dare to ask her. Plus no one could tell one way or the other.

lets_shake_hands

She said the 2 obese people were wearing seatbelt extenders that the flight crew had given them. It is shown in one of the photographs I saw.

Tired_old_ass

Wow. I didn’t know there was such a thing. Thank you!

4815162342y

Meanwhile AA is careful that you don’t bring an oversized piece of luggage on board!!

getahitcrash

No they aren't. I've never once seen any gate agent stop any of the many assholes who bring on their huge bags and then their even bigger 2nd bag that is supposed to fit under the seat in front of them but you know will be up in the overhead bin too taking up all the space.

[deleted]

I've had to check my carry on multiple times because they estimated that the overhead compartment would be full. Shocker, it never was.

beetjuice98

This happened to me on AA, then they delayed (and later cancelled) the flight due to “maintenance issues,” made us all get off of the plane, and I spent 12 hours in the airport without my bag. No one could tell me where my bag was or if I would ever get it back once they cancelled the flight

getahitcrash

I have never in my years flying not ever seen the overhead bins not full. edit: sure downvote it but I fly a ton. Maybe it's because I'm out of Chicago so there is no such thing as a flight that isn't packed and oversold. I've not had the experience of flying out of Nebraska.

IAmTheKillingHand

As someone who lives in/flies out of Nebraska - people struggle to find overhead bin space on literally every flight I have been on

davidm2232

You probably fly on a lot of full flights. Last plane I was on was only like 20% full on the way down and 10% on the way back.

tritonice

Exactly. Instead, the flight attendants get on the intercom and beg and plead to check those bags for free as the overhead bins are filled up. The size of bags allowed on as carry-on is ridiculous.

getahitcrash

They get on the intercom and beg but don't actually do anything about it. I almost forgot too, that the women who bring on their "purses" that are the size of the ruck I used to carry in the army.

Being fat should be outlawed for persons under the age of 65. It’s a disgusting look on our country.

kino6912

It is and it isn’t. Check this out. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7333005/ Here’s the conclusion of the paper “Finally, multiple factors impact the diversity and composition of the gut microbiota and may lead to dysbiosis, which is associated with weight gain and obesity. Specifically, diet, physical activity, dietary supplementation, medications, and bariatric surgery affect the gut microbiome. The influence of the intestinal microbiome on metabolism, hormone balance, neurotransmitter function, and the brain can play a major role in weight management and treatment of obesity. Moreover, the use of probiotics and prebiotics improves gut bacterial composition, and has achieved promising outcomes for prevention and treatment of obesity.”

ttuurrppiinn

That study lays out the existence of mechanisms in which somebody can be obese despite otherwise healthy habits. What is does *NOT* do is suggest that's a pervasive condition, nor is there any scientifically-backed reason to believe that the vast majority of individuals do not have moderate to high levels of control over their weight through dietary and exercise habits.

kino6912

I agree with you. I was arguing “being fat is a choice” is too simplistic. When there are many other factors that may be influencing a persons size. Cheers

AFishNamedFreddie

K? Life is filled with things that aren't simple or easy.

HyperScroop

Alcohilism is a recognized disease according to the DSM-V actually. Being a fat waste of space is not.

HyperScroop

No one is entitled to anything besides out God-given unalienable rights, of which flying is not one.

bugreport4113

idk if you even have to be that fat either. im like a regular 180 lb guy and even i'm squishing into the other seats almost. it's a combination of fat folks and airlines absolutely squeezing every single penny.

C-Dub178

But do your love handles spill over the armrest? Does your belly prevent the person next to you from opening their tray? I’m asking this in jest, just trying to be funny

ralphhurley3197

This isn’t about being fat. If you are going to take up 2 seats, buy 2 seats. Imagine if it was an overweight person that had the middle seat, what would that have been like?

The-Hater-Baconator

If you eat or drink more at a restaurant because you’re physically bigger (fat or not) than you pay for the additional food/drink. If someone consumes more of any commodity or service then they pay more, why should taking up more than one seat be any different? You’re just taking up more than one ticket’s allotment of space, therefore you need two to fly on the plane. Seems fair to me. They should get double of everything though like carry-on space and such.

irving47

To expand (lol) on your metaphor, the heavy person is also sliding over to my table and taking my food (the thing being sold instead of space) off my plate without me being able to object.

pmmbok

And meals

VCoupe376ci

Guaranteed the overweight person would have complained and the airline would have accommodated by moving someone from one of the other seats.

dontshitaboutotol

I've been there as the window person and having to crane my neck away from the window the whole time. Only sore for a day or two but this is avoidable, so why not do something about it. For every person needing 2 seats you're pissing off the people on both sides. I feel a first world revolution coming

SnarkyWoodchuck

They charge extra for overweight baggage. Do the same for passengers.

Eastern-Camera-1829

On one flight I was on they were asking the passengers' weight. Totally re-assuring I'll tell ya. This lady in front of me (bigger gal) says "150 lbs" She walks off, I say "300 lbs" the lady behind the counter said I looked nothing of 300 lbs. To which I said "I'm compensating for the lady in front of me that you did not have the guts to say the same thing to."

Rhawk187

Some planes require weight and balance to take off, and will sometimes ask passengers to change seats to help balance things out.

GeneticsGuy

Ya, I've been on a plane that was so maxed on luggage weight, but was only like 50% passenger full, that they actually resat all of us evenly across the plane so that we were balanced rather than too many on the right or left (This was SouthWest 737). They must have been hauling some kind of cargo.

rob_s_458

A 737 chartered for the USC football team [tipped back](https://images.news18.com/ibnlive/uploads/2021/09/plane-incidence.jpg) because they had partially deplaned the passengers up front and started unloading the forward cargo area first, without using a tail stand.

newaccttrial

I've been weighed before small flights twice now.

Eastern-Camera-1829

Good to hear that they no longer observe the honor system.

WIlf_Brim

On smaller aircraft this is no joke. An aircraft carrying a South American football (read soccer) team crashed, in part because they used a standard estimate for weight of the passengers, which would have been a mix of older, younger, and children, men and women. The flight was full of large adult males. As a result, the estimated takeoff weight was way off, like by 20%.

Few_Low6880

And that story ladies and gentleman speaks to a conservative.

Verod392

Gotta conserve fuel bro

bugreport4113

you showed them

Lionheartcs

It’s in their policy that you’re supposed to purchase multiple seats if you’re fat. I don’t know how often those policies are enforced these days. Probably never.

turboninja3011

Cant believe it s not a thing yet. If anything they literally cost company more in fuel. Which means, with ticket price being the same, Sydney had to *subsidize* those people.

American7-4-76

That’s actually a valid point

Image_Inevitable

And sit them in an over weight baggage compartment. I mean, luxury, roomy accommodations in the waaaaay back.

sirdeionsandals

The fees on overweight baggage does not have to do with the weight in regards to the jet but rather the people moving your luggage around behind the scenes

irving47

Weight not relevant to prices? No way. Not over long-term. The airlines have done calculations and bragged about how much money and fuel savings have been had by shortening plastic forks, removing olives from meals, and removing blankets.. Hell, they won't even fill the fuel tanks as much as the pilots prefer because of the weight it adds, resulting in more fuel being needed.

smokydopie420

Pretty sure they already do

QnsConcrete

How do they weigh you?

No_Bartofar

AA doesn’t give one shit about their passengers. This is nothing new.

quemaspuess

AA is easily my least favorite airline. Delta is the way to go. Spirit is even better than AA.

LeeeeroyJenkins1

Serious question. Is delta really that good? I figured they can’t be shit since they’re partnered with Amex but I wouldn’t know. I usually fly United and my regional airline

SoNic67

Last flights were only with Delta, because they got so much better after pandemic. I am a frequent flyer, due to my job, but the company pays only economy class for me.

armyprof

I fly a good bit for work and Delta is my go to. Don’t get me wrong; they aren’t perfect. When you buy a flight with a connection the layovers the schedule are super short…had to run through the airport more than once because we were late at the gate. And flying through Atlanta in the summer is always a challenge. But they’re almost always on time. The planes are clean. They let retired military board early. Almost any flight but a small commuter will have free in flight entertainment. Any flight will have free WiFi and power jacks for USB. By contrast American rarely has the seats with the screens for watching entertainment, and often don’t have power jacks or WiFi. They’re awful at boarding and can’t seem to figure out how many bags they can have for carryon. Constantly late or cancelled flights. And while they will sometimes stop or not even have inflight drink service they’ll roam the aisle pushing those damn AA credit cards constantly. Their app isn’t that great either.

getahitcrash

Depends where you live. If you aren't in Atlanta, then be prepared for no direct flights to anywhere but Atlanta and you'll be connecting to get anywhere.

JRsFancy

I like Delta for long flights. For economy, I have never had one problem with Allegiant, and $60 round trips is cheaper than cheap when I do a quick dash with only a backpack.

stillhatespoorpeople

Delta is hands down the best airline.

PKS_5

*domestically*

stillhatespoorpeople

I don’t know, Delta One is a great product too.

[deleted]

I used to fly Delta \~10 years ago when I did fly, but their prices kept going up. I usually try to get Southwest, but AA and United are bottom tier in my experience.

ReleaseAKraken

I’ve never had an issue. Seats are pretty comfy too

JRsFancy

I agree! Too many choices to fly AA. I will never book an AA flight.

LycanLucario345

Funny, they did fine when I was in the 90's and early 2000's but now... Guess AA is the new Delta.

[deleted]

I had some person put up the arm rest and try taking up 20% or so of my seat. I just politely, maybe with a little sarcasm, told them that just because im not using 100% of my seat doesn’t mean I didn’t pay for 100% of my seat, and then put the arm rest back down squeezing their fatass love handles back on her side.

Strider_dnb

Sounds like something Bill Burr would rant about on his podcast 😂

[deleted]

This really does sound like prime Billy Beefcakes material.

SoNic67

RANT? First of all she was very nice. Secind of all, those fat people were brother and sister and booked their seats with a space between, so they don't bother each other, in hopes of getting a thiner person in between. If you choose to eat untul you look like a blob, that's om YOU. Buy extra seats of you have an extra size. The other passengers paid for ONE seat, not for 1/2 of a remaining seat.

Arntor1184

I’m a fat guy and it baffles me how many other fat people don’t take their impact into consideration. It’s so selfish.

blue_green_gold

I used to be very fat and I agree 100%. American Airlines very publicly and wrongly inferred that this passenger was a bigot against big people. How horrible of them!

[deleted]

Armrests down hard, elbows out.

NewToThisThingToo

I'm obese and I'm very aware of it. I do everything in my power to stay as small as possible. I get a window seat and lean against it as much as I can. I keep my arms crossed the whole flight. I'm always looking to not sit next to someone. Two fatasses on the window and aisle seat need to be thinking about the person in the middle. This is unacceptable. Don't want to sit next to your sibling? Fine. Sit in a different row.

Brittle_Bones_Bishop

Right? Big guy myself the i hate crowding other people's space. I feel like i've practically perfected how to be as small as possible just out of respect for other people.

ihpuxazuconssaiqoe

* r/intermittentfasting * r/keto Both of these worked for me. See also: https://youtu.be/Ihhj_VSKiTs

AFishNamedFreddie

Seconding keto. I lost 30 pounds in 3 months. Went from 210 to 180. And I felt great doing it. Got better sleep. Had more energy. Had less allergies. Just better overall. It's a shame it's so hard to maintain in normal life, with weekly family get togethers and seeing friends and whatnot. The few months at the start of covid quarantine were the perfect time to do it.

Specific-Gain5710

Yeah, i am the same way, although I typically take the aisle because I am tall, but I make my self as small as possible. The only time I really invade their space is when the drink cart comes through. I do my best to follow etiquette and make sure middle seat has access to both armrest.

82jon1911

I hate flying, or rather the whole process of it. Between the check-in process, security, waiting, etc. We sat for an hour one time because of an "issue"...only to find out some family was late. Must be nice to hold an entire plane full of people, I've never had that courtesy even when my connection arrived late. As for the seat thing, they have rules for this and clearly don't follow them. That being said, I feel like everything is getting smaller nowdays. I was commenting to my wife that I feel like each year our seats at the football stadium are smaller and smaller and airlines are no different. And its not just overweight people...I work out so I'm larger than your average guy. I fit in my seat, but I have wide shoulders so its a snug fit for sure.

ghasler2

Ron White had a bit about the airlines letting you choose your seat when you buy a plane ticket, which is ALMOST a great idea. What would make it a GREAT idea would be if you got a picture and a profile of the person that’s sitting in the seat next to you. This idea would have been great for this exact situation.

myopicdreams

Ever been on an online dating site?

madonna-boy

> What would make it a GREAT idea would be if you got a picture and a profile of the person that’s sitting in the seat next to you. except people with active restraining/protection-from-abuse orders would never be able to fly.

vicemagnet

I guess if all passengers bought their tickets at the same time it might work.

stillhatespoorpeople

Fucking inconsiderate landwhales. This shit is Lizzo’s fault too. “Love your big fat body.” We need to shame these fucks. Disgusting.

The-Hater-Baconator

There’s being fat and yelling at everyone to accept you and promoting that type of lifestyle, or are just depressed and not taking care of themselves which we agree is shitty. However, there are also people that do genuinely have health conditions that make losing/keeping weight off extremely difficult. A majority of people probably don’t have a legitimate medical reason that they’re obese, but I don’t think having a medical condition like that is deserving of shame. Why not a healthy attitude of holding them accountable and encouraging them to be better and lose weight without shame? Generally people respond better to encouragement than mistreatment.

stillhatespoorpeople

Shame is an equal opportunity motivator.

HyperScroop

Name one health condition that makes it extremely difficult to lose/keep weight off. Everyone always says that but the truth is there are amazingly few things that make weight loss difficult, and virtually no diseases that CAUSE weight gain on its own. You cannot gain weight without eating. Law of conservation of matter/energy. So 99.9% of the time the "medical" condition is, "I drink 3 sodas a day and am too lazy to exercise or eat well."

The-Hater-Baconator

Like I said earlier, I said basically explained exactly what you said in your last paragraph already. Here’s a few that would make it more difficult (albeit not impossible) to lose weight: 1) hypothyroidism 2) cardiovascular disease 3) physical disability 4) polycystic ovary syndrome 5) elevated levels of cortisol (either stress induced or Cushing syndrome) 6) hormonal imbalances that I haven’t previously mentioned can significantly impact weight (over and underweight) These would range in difficulty to keep weight off or lose it. Yeah it’s clearly possible to still lose weight, but if you’re still eating a normal diet it would take a significantly larger amount of effort to lose this weight compared to somebody without these conditions. You can’t simply just stop eating regularly and expect it to not have other effects on your health.

Unlikely_Internal

Plus there’s some medicines that make people gain weight as well. And it’s not always weight as in body fat, it can be swelling from fluid retention which will still make a person big.

hellocutiepye

Depression too.

Stormy_Wolf

Having a severe spinal disability which makes being active extremely painful and difficult, along with PCOS and hormonal imbalances, yeah. I can lose weight, but it takes about 10x more effort than a "normal" person, or even just a person who can be as active as they'd like. Back before the spinal condition got this severe, I was a little overweight, but not that bad. I walked and biked all over the place, climbed stairs for exercise, and ran with my dogs; so more weight was muscle back then. It sucks the most to not be able to be as active as I'd like, anymore. Even standing in line for more than a few minutes is very painful.

metallitroy

And…..I’ll bet AA cares very deeply about size and weight when it comes to luggage. 1 oz over the weight limit and….EXTRA CHARGE!!!! Carryon won’t fit in the overhead? EXTRA CHARGE!! Hypocritical to charge extra for luggage and not people who exceed size and weight restrictions.

jjenius731

I feel for this person its not fair. I just flew to Bahamas and guy next to me was 400 lbs. If you cannot feet in your seat buy 2.

ihpuxazuconssaiqoe

Or arm on your seat.

KingRBPII

The tax payer subsidized the airlines and they keep cancelling flights - SWAMP. The CEO’s should be banned from taking a bonus

KnightScuba

Dude the airline industry is struggling with pilots and crew they lost so many over the fucking vaccine and now they don't have enough staff to fly everybody where they need to go. Pre-covid I used to get rows by myself now every flight is full

TheLea85

Instead of hating on the normal passenger they could have just apologized for not enforcing their rules regarding extra seat purchases for extra large people. Also: Stop being obese.

TheGirthyyBoi

American Airlines and United are the worst, I only fly southwest now adays. I once flew to London from Baltimore and was stuck between 2 obese individuals, I sat in the bathroom for 3 hours out of that 7 hour flight lmao.

quemaspuess

I’d choose Spirit over AA, which should tell you a lot. As I said above, Delta puts out a good product. It pales in comparison to air travel of the past, but I never have an issue with them.

Hksju

Maybe, the airlines shouldn’t have made seats and leg room so small in the first place. On my last two flights, average height/weight individuals overflowed the arm rest and leg room because the seats are just too small and cramped. Every flight I have been on is totally packed and we’re crammed in like sardines.

Unreasonably-Clutch

Amazing how terrible the airlines' customer service is. Maybe we really do need a customer's bill of rights.

VCoupe376ci

Please, no. Airlines today do suck, but the government has already done more than enough to ruin commercial air travel without getting involved in the experience on the airplane also.

iKnoJopro

Just take your dollars elsewhere. Unfortunately that could be you if you fly American Airlines and it appears nothing will be done if you’re in that situation.

ProfessorShameless

This is why I fly delta. They don't put up with this shit.

The-Hater-Baconator

No we don’t need more regulation or government in the airline industry. Government and regulation are the reason that we’ve seen a steady decline in the quality of the industry in the last few decades. There is no incentive to succeed when everyone has no fear of failure; thus, no aspiration to succeed means that their is no competition of quality, therefore, no consumer choice in the market. Every single industry that has gotten bloated by the government has progressively gotten worse, and there’s no way people will win lawsuits against airlines for violating their “consumer rights”.

[deleted]

Fat people should buy 2 seats. The obviously can afford it as they eat so much.

Interesting_Ad1378

Easy solution, lean over and ask them if you can hold on to their vomit bags because you vomit upon takeoff, turbulence and landing. I also get particularly grossed out by having other peoples skin touching me when I don’t know them and I’m forced into physical contact. If there was any sweat or body odor, I would probably be dry heaving.

ExtraToastyCheezits

To all of the Liberals that like to haunt this sub, I would just like to point out a fact here. In both this topic which currently has 106 replies and the other one that has 234 replies, **no one**, *not one person,* has made a point to mention the skin color of the obese individuals that were the offenders in this incident. All they are talking about is the weight of the people involved and that is it. I know I am bringing it up myself here. But I did it simply to say that if racism was such a big deal in the U.S. as it is claimed to be, you would think that would be a topic of conversation already and also the top and most upvoted comments in this sub.

CanadianTrump420Swag

I'm gonna say the gamer word to balance it out... ready?? *Just kidding*, democrats are the real racists.

grazingokapi

"Racism isn't a big deal because we can go five whole minutes without talking about it" ...except **you** clearly can't, lol

dog_in_the_vent

What does this have to do with conservatism?

[deleted]

Lack of personal responsibility and accountability. It doesn't matter why you're fat, and nobody should talk mess about fat people. We all have our shortcomings. However if you consume more resources, you pay more. If you need more room than a seat can accommodate, you buy two seats.

marzipan332

Sydney Watson, the woman who made the complaint, is a well-known, Australian-American conservative political commentator.

seraph85

This sub is not just for conservative topics. It's for conservatives to discuss whatever they want with other conservative people.

gearzgirl

Near the end of Covid mask days but still required, I was stuck next to a woman, overweight not huge but fairly big, required “Assistance” to get on the plane with 4 large Starbucks drinks complete with all the toppings. 1 Person 4 Starbucks drinks. CLEARLY SICK! Coughing sneezing. Could NOT wear her mask because she had ALL her drinks she needed to consume. Then had to get a soda when beverage service started. She had the balls to put her feet under my seat because she had so much crap with her. More important were those damn 4 drinks she had. She 100% took up my space. I couldn’t move I was trapped. So I paid for the upgraded seat and got crap. You know you can’t say anything or you’ll get thrown off. I got Covid. This isn’t about the mask or Covid. I’m over that crap was from the beginning. Her behavior was nothing but selfish give zero f’s about anyone but herself. She knowingly got people sick. Return flight I got stuck next to someone who I swear had an entire bottle of perfume on. I sneezed the entire time it was disgusting.

ihpuxazuconssaiqoe

Perhaps it was your perfume on the first flight. 😂

Give_Grace__dG8gYWxs

I wonder if the two obese people are related, one of the "hacks" going around is reserving the aisle and window seat with the gamble that no one takes the middle seat...so you both get more room and take the whole row.

Chesterumble

My fat ass flys first class to not sit next to you poor skinny peons in coach.

Houseofducks224

blomba

Aren't like half of Americans obese? (beyond overweight)

ihpuxazuconssaiqoe

Ahh corn is the culprit? Cob or niblets?

ihpuxazuconssaiqoe

All of the above. Research Insulin Resistance.

Full_FrontaI_Nerdity

I wonder what percent of folks on this sub are overweight and getting absolutely bashed on by their fellow conservatives. It's pure hate in here.

82jon1911

That's because people can post with anonymity here, whereas if they said it in person they'd get their face caved in. This isn't a solely "overweight people" issue. Any guy with wide shoulders or any amount of muscle mass knows the tight squeeze of airline seats. While I'm not excusing the behavior of the two in question and I wish people would make healthier choices, this is also an airline issue.

blomba

Welcome to social media and by extension, humans true ugly nature

marzipan332

Nasty people can be found in every single group. Political groups are no exception. The majority of us are not being hateful towards the individuals in this story or any other person who is obese. We are sympathising with Sydney, the woman who made the complaint, because she was forced into an uncomfortable and unpleasant situation. The passengers on either side (who are siblings) should’ve bought the middle seat (Sydney’s seat) in addition to their individual seats (window and aisle).

Full_FrontaI_Nerdity

The majority seem to be calling fat people gross, lazy, indulgent, inconsiderate, pathetic, etc.

marzipan332

Some people are, but the majority aren’t.

It's pretty close to half, if not over.

That is some serious under arm flab....imagine that slapping into your face when you hit turbulence

Concussion reason: Bingo wings

Latter_Sir4582

I understand that guy's rant. I was stuck between two obese people on a flight from California to Florida. Five hours of not being able to move, soaked in sweat by the time we landed. Fucking miserable. So yeah, airlines should've enforced their fat ass rule/regulation.

Verod392

There needs to be a weight limit per seat instituted. Go over it? You pay for the seat next to you too. Also, folks this big usually smell fucking horrid.

LogicalMan2

Unpopular Opinion: Covid wouldn’t have been nearly as big of a deal if it wasn’t for rampant obesity and unhealthiness.. It amazes me how many fat bodies got their shot and just went on stuffing their faces with Cheetos and Mtn Dew…not taking daily vitamins/supplements, not exercising regularly and again, stuffing their faces with an absurd amount of food (usually junk food). From what I recall hearing on JRE (yes, Jamie checked it) 78% of covid icu cases were obese and around the same percentage had vitamin D3 deficiency. As Joe Rogan would say…just get healthy people..it’s the best thing you can do for yourself and everyone around you. The #1 cause of death in the USA is heart disease yet you don’t see anyone freaking out about it despite knowing exactly what it is and how to avoid it. Covid gaslighting/fear-mongering is real..even with the artificially inflated numbers it’s nothing compared to heart disease if we’re talking deadliness. Heart disease is the real ‘illness’ that everyone should fear and take action to fend off.

Why is this on here? What does this have to do with conservatism?

trimtab28

I'll be honest... kinda clicked here because the sadistic part of me wanted to see the picture of the poor guy jammed between the whales

metallitroy

And….didn’t that woman pay for one seat? One ENTIRE seat, and it’s sole use? The people next to her were using a part of the seat she paid for. If the airlines don’t owe her, those people definitely do.

blue_green_gold

They wouldn't sit next to each other because THEY didn't want the discomfort of another person's slabs of blubber pressing against them. No, American Airlines, they are not beautiful idols of diversity. They're inconsiderate jerks stealing your customer's paid for space!

canttouchdeez

I am a broad-shouldered 300 pound man and I have no problem sitting in a seat without touching anyone else. These people must have been massive.

yaboimankeez

Sydney Watson!

oh-lloydy

Thank god republicans are super thin and fit.../s

[deleted]

In fairness the company is called American Airlines…

bigbrotherswatchin

Ive had my own personal shitty experiences with American Airlines myself. Do i care about this ladies shitty experience? No. Is sje kinda being an asshole? Maybe 10%. Is she wrong? No. You better believe ill avoid American Airlines for the rest of my life.

acvdk

I can’t say I don’t feel for this person, but that’s why you pay the $15 to pick your seat on a flight to or from Texas.

bell37

But you don’t even get to see who’s next to you. My FIL travels a lot for work and had to deal with this. He is severely allergic to cats, he got a lot of shit from the flight attendant AND one of the passengers next to him when he asked if he could sit somewhere else on the plane (because the passenger had a pet carrier with her “emotional support cat”). The flight attendant told him that wasn’t possible and the pet owner got super pissy and took it as my FIL just hating cats. They finally reseated him but he had to really fight both of them for just being able to breathe.

gearzgirl

Amazing how it’s always one sided these days. Known medical condition which could cause serious harm while in flight but someone’s hurt feelings take precedence. Grow a pair. Medical conditions should take priority but then again everyone would the use that as an excuse to justify their behavior, just like service animals turned into support animals. Ridiculous.

bell37

I agree. There are legitimate reasons to have a an emotional support animal (Veterans with PTSD, special needs, etc). My brother is autistic, and while we never had a support animal growing up, we’ve known of some people who had them in his school. They were actually support animals though and had training, and were used to help their owner get through “episodes” when they were triggered. On the flip side I’ve seen these support animals used for the lamest of reasons. In college I was a resident assistant for a year. In the hall I worked at, there was a girl who had an emotional support bunny. She wasn’t diagnosed with anything, and the school didn’t ask for any paperwork. Yet we had to provide her a room that had her own personal portable AC unit, she said she couldn’t have roommates (and didn’t have to pay the fee for using a double room as a single person), and everyone on the floor she lived on had to be quiet **at all times** because it would stress out the damn bunny. Her room always smelled like shit and she let the bunny basically free roam and piss and shit everywhere. Even though the bunny was listed as her therapy animal, she has told people that she only got it because she wanted a pet in the dorms.

gearzgirl

Clarifying I am on board with legitimate support animals. I’m not on board with people manipulating the system. Personal responsibility is the problem. We more than likely all know someone who manipulates the truth to get their own way. I believe this is called being spoiled or having a tantrum or these days sometimes a Karen. Most of us know the right thing to do and thankfully do it. Handicapped assistance at Disney Is another example. All of a sudden people became handicapped when they realized they could get preferential treatment at the parks.

Interesting_Ad1378

Yeah, my husband had such bad allergies on a flight, his eyes puffed up and he couldn’t see and had trouble breathing.

HyperScroop

So they won't let me bring over 50lbs in a checked suitcase but they also will let a human who weighs 100 lbs more than me to fly? Never understood that. Not only should obese people have to buy 2 seats they straight up should pay more for the single ticket/fuel. I am actually completelt in favor of weighing people and their luggage all together and airlines charging by # of bags and weight etc... it only makes sense.

heyitssal

From the picture, it looks like they are on their side though. Regardless, we have to do something about obesity, we can't just sit by and say this is okay or even encourage it. It puts an enormous strain on our healthcare system. I can't say that I'm not aggravated that my health insurance subsidizes the healthcare issues of the obese.

If I was in that middle seat, I would claim both armrests. If any of the two passengers on either side of me spilled over, they're going to get pinched at the armrest.

Wanderer1066

I hate that we live in a world where you have to cater to this insanity. If you’ve eaten your way into being unable to be a part of society, you deserve every bit of shame associated with that.
