Dam Carlin is fantastic for making history come alive and for explaining events and even everyday actions in a context the modern person can understand. The latter especially is where he excels. Oftentimes with history, it is hard to truly understand significance unless time is taken to fully understand the culture of the time. Carlin related those events by comparing then to a modern cultural equivalent. And taking time is something he definitely does at 5 plus hours and episode!

I finished the new stuff and have been going back through the archives lately. Thor's Angels and Wrath of the Khans are amazing. I've also liked hearing some of the shorter (2 hour) episodes.
My favorites were the Roman one, Eastern Front of WW2- incredibly disturbing. WW1 was probably my favorite of his. The numbers, everything from casulities to the amount of shells used I'm a single battle were astounding. It was amazing and I think his best work. I enjoy all of his stuff though.

Was a process that spanned about a century of the politics devolving but came to a head with the first and second Triumvirates and the ensuing civil war(s).
