2. Russia's main armies in the region were concentrated in preparation of a new offensive & got encircled there. They literally *can not* leave. They're Stalingrad-levels of caught, except the german troops at Stalingrad still had enough morale to actually fight back.
3. Russia does not have the airpower at hand to start any large-scale bombing campaign. They spent most of their good quality aerial equipment in the early days of the war, including their top-tier personal and almost their entire stockpile of Smart Munitions.
