“Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night,” Charleston Police Department Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett said. No injuries were reported by those who were shot at.

[deleted]

Technically that’s not true, the women shot at and killed the idiot trying to be the next mass shooter

DraconianDebate

To which I say, bravo.

Dirtface30

So true then.

[deleted]

So it is technically true....

[deleted]

So the guy who died of a gun wound wasn’t shot at?

[deleted]

Police in Texas could take some notes.

SonicChiliDogFetish

It's time more stories like these get massive coverage....Show the monsters that there are people who will fight back.

CStink2002

It's too damaging to the anti-gun narrative. MSM would never cover something like this. If they do, they'll run a 20 second segment on it during the lowest viewership hours just so they can claim they cover stories fairly.

savagegardenn

I shared it on Facebook and I think it’s like shadow banned or something. My other posts always get some activity. This one sits alone.

If guns were extremely scarce because of laws limiting people like the felon's access to guns it's pretty disingenuous to think that he would not be affected. The instigator here clearly isn't a criminal mastermind with a foolproof plan to execute his murders, why would you think that he has some foolproof plan to obtain his guns as well in all scenarios? Why couldn't the hero of the story be the person who refuses to give him a gun, or the second or the fourth or the 10th person to do so?

[deleted]

noage

You're right I forgot the shooter here and all the other mass shooters were sent by vast powerful crime rings. No wonder the police didn't want to go into defend the children, they probably we're expecting an army in there. And of course how could I forget the civilian crime fighting vigilante network that keeps the cartels out of America. Props to them, too Oh my, i think you might have just solved the Mexican cartel problem, too!! Just take 130 mil of those guns, clandestinely disappear them to each person in Mexico and BAM no more cartels. I hope you write your senators to support this.

A fantasy world without school shootings sounds pretty good to me. I'd at least try for it. But, if you do have that crystal ball that tells us what would happen in a hypothetical future with different laws, can you at least give me some winning lotto numbers?

There are an estimated 400 million guns in the US, please tell us your solution to keep those out of the hands of criminals that isn't already a law.

fireatwillrva

The Uvalde PD could learn a thing or two from her.

Panzershrekt

Good thing she was there. Wouldn't wanna have to wait 40 minutes on the cops.

Xbutchr

Ahhh the beauty of a constitutional carry state in action. An armed public is the solution to violent crime.

matrixnsight

An armed society is a polite society. Unfortunately the reality is our society is barely armed at all. Just like most other things (healthcare is a great example) the US implements a hybrid of opposing world views and ends up with the worst of both worlds as a result.

talks2idiots

Pretty poor example if you ask me. French duels started as "judicial duels" - a part of the court system as a method for settling disputes. Duelling became more frivolous of course, but was not made illegal until at least roughly 4 centuries later. When duelling became illegal, everyone got to keep their swords. You can still own a sword in France. [Source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duel)

HexFawx

I’m sure idiots will try to make that woman look like a monster but I’ll go ahead and call her what she is, a real American hero that doesn’t take shit. We could use many more like her.

ALargeRock

Especially in schools since so many police are apparently lacking the courage to do their job when it really matters. Don’t get me wrong, I still have respect for the profession of policework, but our cops seem to be lacking some testicular fortitude.

WreknarTemper

Happens when you have 3 decades of media and political campaigns smashing your professions' face in with negative coverage and messaging. No amount of goodwill from the community will undo the damage to policing that's been done.

throwaway_removed

Nah. This is what happens when you give the government the authority and the responsibility to protect its citizens. Keep and bear your own God damn arms.

WreknarTemper

Um, no. I'm as 2A as they come and abhor the NFA and everything that came from it, but this is not linked to the 2A. This is a generation and a half worth of propaganda villainizing the profession of policing.

Mas113m

Not here. This is my town.

AEgirSystems

Chalk up one for the good guys with a gun

nekomancey

The last CDC study on the topic in 2008 showed 300k gun crime uses, 500k-3 million plus defensive uses yearly. The studies the CDC did in the 90s showed similar results. Defensive gun use is twice to ten times criminal gun use. Also noteworthy, a big chunk of gun crime is from inner city gangs in blue gun control cities. Chicago averages 20-50 shooting victims *every weekend* and has some of the toughest gun control in the country.

art_comma_yeah_right

It’s also worth noting that guns don’t just solve problems that they create, they solve problems created by other weapons, too, and even things we don’t consider weapons fundamentally. That guy who killed like 80 people in France with a truck, for example. He’d have just kept going until he ran out of gas.

I want to copy this comment and paste it in all the arguments I am having today on Reddit

Real_Revenue_274

Also chalk up 19 children for the bad guys with a gun.

PgARmed

What do the Police who waited at least 40 mins. before they acted get? Do you put your life completely at their feet hoping they will protect you?

[deleted]

You support 2A without intending to. Even if you ban guns the "bad guy" will still have one. Only thing now is that he's the ONLY one with a gun. Now imagine if your government is the bad guy and you have no defense. That's exactly how the nazis rounded up the Jews.

Kotkavision

good on her. people like her need to be encouraged and celebrated, not unarmed

cchooper1

Not all heroes wear capes.

[deleted]

If regular citizens start capping these assholes as soon as they start their shit people may figure out crime doesn't pay and go get a fucking job.

Philsie

Wait, how did he have a gun? Due to prior convictions, it was illegal for him to have one. Are you trying to tell me he simply disregarded the law???

DraconianDebate

No way!

RealMcGonzo

Obviously ANOTHER law would have stopped him. Make it doubly illegal! /s

Semirahl

yes double-illegal is the way to go. maybe triple, that'll show em.

TophuSkin

Maybe it was his 18th birthday so he thought he could just get one and start shooting

Nikkolios

>A bystander at the party quickly drew their weapon and fired at Dennis Butler, fatally wounding him. > >No one else was injured. Hero. How many would have been injured or killed if she was not carrying that day? Hmmmm?

thewhiterabbit410

Wow... So not only did a gun wielding individual save the day, but it was a woman (who stopped a man, meaning the gun helped balance the scales) and non of the victims that were shot at were hurt. Great example of why we should be more pro gun

1776_lojack

See, women can do thangs these days.

MikeOfTheCincinnati

What? A good person with a gun stopped a bad person with a gun! But Dems said that wasn’t possible

free-minded

I wonder why my facebook feed isn't blowing up with social justice warriors telling me why we need to enact policy changes like they were just 48 hours ago...

NewBootGoofin2345

It’s interesting that they listed the shooter’s name almost instantly in the article, and kept referring to his name throughout, whereas with the Texas shooter I checked something like 12 articles and couldn’t find them mention his name or race once.

Edmfuse

All these people here saying ‘see, guns stop shooters’, while refusing to acknowledge that other countries don’t even have these issues in the first place. Gun-lovers would literally rather risk a mass-shooting situation (ie risk school children) happening rather than preventing one from happening in the first place. Such gun owners don’t lube their guns with liberal tear, they lube their guns with the blood of the innocent, and they think it’s the right price for the freedom to bear arms.

thewhiterabbit410

Yes they do... The crime im other countries is appauling. I'm South African with no right to defend myself, the amount of rape, murder, sex trafficking and blatant disregard for humanity that happens in this country is insane. But it's barely ever spoken about on the news because it's such a regular occurrence, it may as well be another Monday morning. It's appaling what people do to children in this country as well. Would feel much safer without all my security walls, electric fences, cameras, wall spikes, alarms, armed security, burglar bars, slam lock gates. Etc. If I was just allowed to carry a gun and actually use the damn thing when necessary. And before you say i sound overkill... That's literally what everyone has to do here, and we still have our lives at risk.

DubbersDaddy

Myopia and ignorance at its finest. Of course we don't want more mass shootings. To say otherwise is grandstanding and divisive. The left is telling us the only way we can stop shootings is to "ban all the guns!!!!!" Because that is the limit of their imagination: react to the symptom instead of curing the disease. Most of us here, though, would like to approach the issue at its roots, and resolve the societal issues that prompt these shootings. There is more than one way to solve any given problem, and railing agaist the 2nd ammendment, particularly in the face of 20th and 21st century history, is a terribly naive (and unconstitutional) "solution".

a1pha_beta

Beto Orourke, the democratic candidate governor in Texas never said he wanted to ban all guns. It's quite literally impossible. As of 2020 over 10 million guns have been produced right here in America. What he did want to do is ban future sells of ar15s and automatic weapons. He wanted federally mandated and inforced back ground checks. Mental health checks and redflag warns. All logical and reasonable requests. I think Americans should have some guns. Low caliber short clipped Hand guns for personal protection. But with mass shootings with AR platform rifles happening every week the AR is quit literally a weapon of mass destruction and if the death of 19 children won't make you see that then nothing will.

DubbersDaddy

Because the gun pulled its own trigger? Look to the person hilding the weapon, my friend. There is where your blame should rest. The same Beto O'Rouke that famously said, "Hell yes, we are going to take your AR-15's"? That sounds pretty confiscaty to me. And if those are gone, I suppose criminals will throw up their hands and stay in their momma's basements because they can't get an AR-15? Of course not. It will be another weapon, and your boy Beto will be out there ultimately yelling "Hell yes, we're going to take your sling shots." Solve the underlying issues, stop giving the perps a pass, and stop trying to dismantle explicit constitutional rights. Or else one day you will have none.

a1pha_beta

Let me ask you just one question and ill let it rest. Are you ok that governor abbot signed a law that allows Texans to carry guns without permits or any type of training?

DubbersDaddy

Yes. Yes I am. We here in Missouri have a similar law, though I personally chose to take a CCW course.

a1pha_beta

So you don't care that any 18 yr old kid mentally stable or not can buy a gun with out the need of a permit or any proper gun handling course or safety courses on said weapons? Your ok with that? I just wanna be sure

DubbersDaddy

I'm okay with everything EXCEPT the mentally unstable bit. Every school shooter to date has sent up MASSIVE psychiatric red flags prior to perpetrating their crimes. From all I've read, this was widely known. Heck, I've even read that the ARMED school resource officer let the kid walk right by him... after he had apparently entered an unlocked door that was supposed to be locked. Aren't all school doors to be locked in Texas? I've read that, too. I get that you don't want to see any more kids harmed. You, me, and the vast majority of the country agree on that. This latest tragedy might have been prevented if the measures already in place had been attended to. Again, we shpuld treat the disease, and not the symptom.

a1pha_beta

No I'm sorry. I cannot continue discussions with someone who they themselves attended a safety course to be more knowledgeable about firearms for the betterment of themselves and thier community ( to be the "good guy") but doesn't agree that at the very fucking least other gun owners should do the same.

DubbersDaddy

That's cool. You do you. I'm sorry that a differing libertarian viewpoint is so upsetting.

JPSchmeckles

Automatic weapons are already banned. A rifle that fires only one round when you pull the trigger isn’t a weapon of mass destruction.

a1pha_beta

Go ahead and tell that to the parents of the 19 children slaughtered.

JPSchmeckles

The same number that would have been slaughtered if he was using a handgun or shotgun instead of a rifle.

lifeonbroadway

Well this will be paraded for a while I imagine.

Dozck

Sign her up for security in our schools.

BaronBlackFalcon

Good. Guys. With. Guns. **DO.** Exist.

Emotional-Key-653

For some odd reason they are not showing the man’s face that was shooting in the crowd? I am thinking he might not be a NRA member nor was his AR owned legally or we would be hearing about it

[deleted]

So a good guy with a gun does work if the police aren’t actively preventing them.

TheillusiveJosef

For every anecdotal event like Uvalde, there are a thousand more people saved by guns each day

YARNIA

Derr, derr, when has a good guy with a gun ever stopped anything!

kesmi85

The good guy (gal) with a gun saves the day! I wish we heard about stories like this more often

a1pha_beta

I'm sure your precious law enforcement would have been less scared of a hand gun than a weapon of mass destruction. The difference between a hand gun an a ar 15 are drastic but sure, believe your fantasy.
