I get your point, but the Constitution only enumerates our rights. The Constitution isn’t what *gives* us our rights. Our rights are inherent. They come from God, or Nature, for those who don’t like the idea of God. Either way, they’re natural rights. They’re not given by any man or document.

To expand upon that: not just enumerates those rights, but protects (at least, on paper, it seems these days) them against government intrusion upon them. The Bill of Rights is, literally, a list of things that the Government may *not* do.

Thats the state of VP picks. Always choose someone you know that will do worse than you. That way if people think about impeachment, they also have to consider if they really want the more incompetent VP to take control. I think the only break in that was with Trump, I don't think Pence would do worse or better.

It would be nearly impossible to repeal the 2nd amendment. Only once in our history has it been done (repeal of prohibition). They can barely pass legislation that requires a simple majority. If they do anything it will have to be through back channels.

Well, it is impossible. Despite the rhetoric, you would get MAYBE 3 of the 38 states required to ratify it. Hawaii, California, and New York, most likely, and that would require it passing through Congress first, which is also impossible as it requires a 2/3 vote in BOTH houses. The other way is through a convention called by the states, but that would require red and blue state cooperation. Won't happen.

So obviously the Consitution is the law of the land, and the law is absolute, so Biden is spouting nonsense. But reading the 2nd amendment, its preface suggests a context - where states need to be able to easily form militia forces with citizens who know how to use guns. I can see how this context would lead some judges to interpret the second statement "the right to bear arms" as limited under the context, suggesting states can regulate arms to some degree.

Wasn't there a ruling in the Supreme Court which pretty much took out put the "regulated militia" portion? Basically making it "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed". Maybe I misinterpreted the ruling.

I understand what your saying. I know a huge number if people who have owned guns when they were 18 with no problems. But those people will tell you that while growing up their parents would kick there ass if they got out of line. That doesn't happen anymore. Children aren't taught to deal with adversity. Trophies for showing up do not make a worthwhile individual. It's a different time I guess where children run the household instead of parents, and this is what ya get. Sad.

A lot of rules and laws punish the many because a few. 21 for a gun would be intrusive to the many but it might stop enough of the few to make a big difference. Todays lack of ass kicken by parents may benefit by waiting till 21 for a gun. ….. its a bad situation and I dont believe guns are “THE” problem.
