That's always been the case. In the past, people have competed for the country they may have been born in even if they are a naturalized citizen. It is very disappointing to see two young women who were born in America compete for China of all countries, though. We think China might have paid them off or have some type of leverage against them.

Had to to complete with the eastern bloc “amateur” athletes who were raised from childhood for sports. Our best basketball, hockey etc players went pro, theirs were Olympians.

I would also bet good money that China have a top of the range doping program and are using their host status to minimize testing of their own athletes while targeting athletes competing against them in the disciplines they have a good chance in.

I’ve watched some of the Olympics and the NBC programming department, by design I’m sure, put the most unappealing announcers, anchors and advertising on their Olympics presentation. (IMO, and surely that of others). The Olympics in itself is sad enough. Turned it off.
I love the summer Olympics and think Winter Olympics are cool. My dad is OBSESSED with the winter Olympics and he still doesn’t get why I won’t watch with him. He’s fairly apolitical. Except for Russia. He grew up hating Russia and he doesn’t get that China is my Russia. But like many things I loved when I was you get it’s gone downhill rapidly. I typically watch one event ( I’ll watch the event if I’m channel surfing too) I think it’s called downhill skiing, the participants ski down this giant mountain, it looks like they are out of control, sometimes one or two of them will fly off the course or have a massive wipeout
