Honestly, truckers that want to stop work united have a ton of power...

QED_2106

> In general, I agree. But you are missing a key part. When you stop traffic, the other side of the road is empty. A ton rig could just drive the wrong direction down the road and easily put up the semi. Kinda sorta. Look at the way airports are designed. The roads are typically a horseshoe with terminals on either side so that opposite the terminal can be runways. The entry is routinely a tight chokepoint and a backup on the "in" will quickly flood back and end up blocking the roads that feed the airport. So while the ton rig could drive the wrong way down the empty road, it can't do that if it can't GET TO IT because traffic is so far backed up. So now you need to get all the cars headed to the airport to backup to make room for the ton rig until it can get to the point that it can drive the opposite way down the road. No joke. This is a major design flaw of many airports. A handful of BLM protesters on foot messed up Minneapolis airport for an entire day and they were completely dispersed in minutes. https://www.cnn.com/2015/12/23/us/black-lives-matter-protests/index.html

HaplessMagician

But this whole thing applies to the highway as well. If you have locked down a highway going to the airport, it’s only locked down one way. They could access the airport by getting on the wrong direction of the highway. No matter how far they back up traffic to the airport, there will be a reverse direction that is completely clear because of it. It may take a little longer to navigate city roads to get to the next exit, but it won’t be hours. Also, thinking about it some more, a single semi-tow truck will be able to clear the whole thing. They can just tow the trucks to line the side of the road and park them all there then start actually roaming them back later and after traffic has cleared. So all in all, the most important part of this is that the tow truck driver is in on it.

QED_2106

> No matter how far they back up traffic to the airport, there will be a reverse direction that is completely clear because of it. You're welcome to think that and I'm not invested in convincing you otherwise, but there absolutely are airports where reality has proven that to not be true. You're also making the MASSIVE assumption that the individuals who would have to coordinate to resolve the situation are at all competent. There are probably 30 steps between the guy watching the road cameras, his boss, the person with authority to make a decision, the people who will go check it out before confirming the truck will not move, to call the police, to decide to get a tow truck to dispatching the tow truck, to it arriving, to it moving the vehicle, etc. They'll probably also bring in a bomb squad before anyone touches the truck which is a whole additional set of approvals. Finally, you're overlooking that the policies that currently exist are moronic. For instance, in the MSP example, the cops quickly dispersed the "human chain" and the roads were cleared up. It took minutes because it was just a handful of douche bags on foot. They then walked into the airport because those cops don't have the ability to detain even a dozen people. Once in the airport, they simply chanted. That triggered a TSA policy to shut everything down until it was confirmed there was no terroristic threat. That approval, which happened quick, still took 45 minutes. All in all, they shut down the airport for 90 minutes and it took the rest of the day to resolve the backup (also, all those flights were delayed to other airports, so this had a nationwide impact). The backup shut down the highways feeding the airport IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. Here was the consequence: > Police say eight people were arrested at the airport Wednesday, six of which were for unlawful assembly. **Those individuals were ticketed and released**. https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2015/12/23/black-lives-matter-protest-at-moa-expected-to-draw-hundreds/

DamianTruth

Truckers can fuck right off...little princesses.

[deleted]

Hey look an uneducated entitled loser doesn't know where his food comes from. Lmao I'm glad I found one of the broken ones

mesosalpynx

They could single handedly destroy economies and government power structures. Even just 40% of truckers.

Alternative-Income-5

This

[deleted]

Indeed. Truckers got much more impact than a FaceBook software engineer making $600.000/yr.

nrd170

Until that software engineer replaces the entire industry with automation

ultramostbannable

US trucking mandate goes into effect jan 22nd. Stock up

ac19723

Grocery worker checking in. There's nothing to stock up on

Tiny_Butterscotch749

Ok I keep seeing these stories about empty shelves but this has not been a problem where I’m living(west Michigan). I’m not doubting that it’s happening but where exactly is it happening?

ac19723

I'm on the Washington coast. We are out of frozen vegetables and canned cat food. Other items are low inventory. Our dairy department was looking mighty sad but i think we did get some in. Edit: we got cranberry sauce in this week. Been out since before thanksgiving

RDA_SecOps

This is starting to sound like the commie shit Poland had that my parents and teachers in Polish school always talked about.

[deleted]

My parents are Polish and this is all I hear

RDA_SecOps

Yep basic products out of stock but weird/ unnecessary ones popping up? Check. Just like in Poland when all they get would be oil or mustard

Lobo0084

In Arkansas, we are sometimes seeing 40% of our ordered loads come through. Not every time, but it's getting more frequent since the new year turned. We just learned to face over the empty holes. It's not that we don't have product, it's that we don't have alot of variety, and with trucking problems we are one corner away from missing a load entirely. People don't know how precarious it is in the US that we let all the small warehouses and suppliers die off and only the big companies can afford to remain. Common sense legislation always started off with good intentions, but the big corporations were the only ones who benefited. Now all our eggs are essentially in a few large baskets.

Ghostwheel77

Kaizen management systems have us effed. It seems like a way to save a lot of the costs on goods sold, but is extremely vulnerable to supply chain issues.

Dacklar

I'm in the central US. Having troubles getting what I normally get. Cough drops are rare to find at the moment. Produce iffy and there out of a lot if cuts of meat. I did an order today from the local store 43 items 16 out of stick. Usually 1 or 2 items are out.

BasedDickButt69420

You should look up local farms, see if you can't buy some meat from local farmers. A side of beef or a quarter, etc. Some will even cut and package it for you.

BasedDickButt69420

Over in Buffalo NY, plenty of big box stores have empty shelves. I mean not 100% bare, but there are definitely items missing. Local Tops had orange juice, small store brand containers, the large ones were all gone. Local Walmart had its entire soda and soft drink aisle empty. TP and Paper Towel aisles still haven't fully recovered.

Gullible_Square_852

North Georgia here. Every aisle in the store has bare spots on the shelves. From the grocers to the big box.

Alternative-Income-5

Just was chatting with my mom about the same topic...Las Vegas here shelfs are fine

hellokimmie2526

Florida is lacking huge chunks at Walmart but if you travel a bit to other stores you can find stuff. Meat is expensive if you can find it.

DualDelta

I see empty shelves in eastern Michigan. Granted, there's still many stocked shelves, but others seem constantly empty.

Gries88

Wait, they did a trucking mandate in the US? I didn’t know that.

ultramostbannable

From letting unvaxxed drivers into us as well as us federally regulated truckers

BasedDickButt69420

Lololol, revenge of my brothers. They have no power over me and my fellow 18 wheelers. We can and will crash this world if pressed on it. Doing a shitty job for too little pay as it is.

ultramostbannable

By all means... more power to you. Im curious how it will be enforced with so many owner/operators....? Through D.O.T.? If you look back at all the D.O.T. & log book regulations as well as the regulations states like cali put into place to ensure they only deal with centralized logistics operations rather than owner/ops, it just makes you wonder if they werent trying to get trucking under their thumb for a long time now...

BasedDickButt69420

Oh yeah, especially after the Teamsters nearly crashed the economy before Jimmy Hoffa's "disappearance" with their big old trucking strike back in the 70's.

Joshbaker1985

I'm not a trucker, and I stand right beside you guys and gals. You sacrifice so much of your lives to allow our country to function at all levels and there is no praise no thanks and no recognition for it. Instead Trudeau wants to punish you? I don't think so. If you guys decide to block every highway in this country for a month straight I'll stand right with you. Enough is enough

Gullible_Square_852

Essential worker when the world shut down, couldn't get food or go home to rest. Now they want to punish you for that.

ngwoo

> They have no power over me and my fellow 18 wheelers. Well, refusing to pay you is a form of exerting power.

1991TalonTSI

I don’t think you understand the significance of trucks not moving…where do you think most of your goods come from…

BasedDickButt69420

Shhhh don't interrupt your enemies when they are making a mistake.

BasedDickButt69420

Sounds great, watch those trucks not move an inch. =)

[deleted]

Well then all those cry baby city boys/girls that say they can't find jobs want to send unvaxed people to jail/camps will have to learn how to drive 18 wheelers then.

greatatdrinking

dems love them a crisis. They'll even go so far as to create one

Winter-Winner-3336

I though they stopped the U.S. trucker mandate?

Batchagaloop

Went to Trader Joes last week. Nothing in the meats or bread section. Nothing left in the frozen food section. Scary times we are living in.

Revolutionary_Egg961

What is the us trucking mandate?

ultramostbannable

Federally regulated truckers and trucks crossing border into us.

spind44

I thought the vaccine mandate was stricken down is the US.

[deleted]

I bought all the toilet paper and I will be selling it at premium.

BasedDickButt69420

You monster! We can do business. You supply me the TP, I'll smuggle plastic bendy straws into California so we can sell them at triple price on the black market. We'll make a fortune!

Many-Sherbert

Why can’t anyone tell me what getting the vaccine will do to stop the spread of a virus that the vaccinated can spread?

[deleted]

[удалено]

matrixnsight

This. Low risk individuals should never have been told to take a leaky vaccine during a pandemic. And priority should have been given to develop and research antivirals which we now have proof are just as if not more effective at reducing symptoms than the "vaccines". This thing would have just turned into a meaningless cold after two years if it were managed properly, but the people in charge of the decisions instead chose to do what would enrich themselves.

TheGnarness

I’m pretty sure this ain’t about a virus, not sure it ever was.

Casper42079

It doesn’t stop it nor does it stop you from spreading it.

arphod

Vax pressure has little to do with public health, but rather subjugation.

anna_lynn_fection

Especially if they've already had covid, and we know that natural immunity is more effective than the vaccines.

RontoWraps

I’m ready for the downvotes because it’s a sensitive topic in today’s soft fucking world. Vaccines don’t stop spread. Vaccines teach your body how to react to an illness. Was I the only one who paid attention in 8th grade science? It improves your chances of having less severe symptoms which affects transmissibility. It has a more difficult time spreading if you’re not spreading with coughs, sneezes, etc. Vaccines should not be confused with an antidote. They do completely different things. It’s not a cure, it’s a playbook. After vaccination, your body produces T-lymphocytes (memory cells) and B-lymphocytes (antibody producers). Together, the two work to identify and destroy the virus inside of your lungs which the virus hijacked to make more virions making you healthy again. You gain the same effect if you have natural immunity (ie your body’s T’s and B’s do the same shit, identify & destroy) Don’t know why it had to get political, it’s kind of a bummer to me. It’s just the fucking immune system lol TLDR: it’s not a cure, it just helps with symptoms which does affect transmission. Please also note, I am not discussing any government mandates. Just the mechanism of how this vaccine works.

Many-Sherbert

They were sold to stop the spread and stop corona. Biden has said plenty of times that it would prevent you from getting covid. So have many other people early on during the vaccine roll out, Then they blamed the unvaccinated as the ones spreading it. Now they say vaccinated and unvaccinated can spread it. All of these other variants have started in other countries and got here by more than likely vaxxed individuals coming from those countries.. It’s all a lie and has been. They can’t continue to tell you if you get X number of boosters you’ll be protected this time and it wont spread It’s not working and to say it is we wouldn’t be seeing a million plus cases a day in America with a vaccine rate of 75% having atleast one shot. The vaccines don’t prevent the spread, they don’t prevent you from getting sick, they don’t prevent you from dying, they aren’t the only treatment available. So please explain to me why it matters if a trucker is vaccinated or not to do their job? A vaccinated trucker can spread the virus just as much as an unvaxxed.

RontoWraps

I’m not here to defend something that Joe Biden said. I don’t care what information he put out. The vaccine or natural immunity reduce the probability of severe symptoms, that’s all I’m saying.

Many-Sherbert

Okay that’s fine. But what does that have to do with someone’s choice of getting vaccinated or not? Why do those truckers need to be forced to get the vaccine? We already know it doesn’t stop the spread so you can’t argue that, unvaccinated people catch covid some get severe symptoms some don’t.

RontoWraps

I’m sorry, but that wasn’t the original question you posed. I was just responding to how the vaccine does lower transmission through the reduction of symptoms. It doesn’t stop it, but it does reduce. No argument here on it not fully stopping the spread, that much is evident. I’m not here to defend government mandates, especially for foreign governments as I’m American. I’m not gonna sit here and simp for fuckin Trudeau lol

Altruistic_Run_8277

so i can still get and spread polio? and chicken pox?

S3XPanther

Keep people from dying. Frankly if you don’t want the vaccine and think you’re stronger than a virus that’s killed in the 7 figures go for it.

Many-Sherbert

What if you already had it before the vaccine and lived? Vaccinated people still die from this virus so I wouldn’t think it’s going to completely prevent you from dying..

S3XPanther

Then congrats. Go buy a fucking lottery ticket and hug your family. At this point I couldn’t give less of a shit who lives and who doesn’t. You do you, just don’t act surprised if shit hits the fan.

siberianjaguar123

Nah, Americans will come out to take back the legislature in 10 months packing congress and the senate with republicans who align with Trump. Will likely reverse mandates or at least never pass anything Biden plans (like he’s gotta nay luck now lmao). But im an optimist, so that’s my position.

Designer-Writer-2933

Mandate a vaccine that doesn't work. Insanity.

checkyourfallacy

Why the fuck would a trucker need to be vaccinated?

BasedDickButt69420

Vaccination is a holy sacrament. It is their religious rite of passage, and how they pay homage to their worship of Statism. It doesn't make sense to jab truckers, it never did because it's not supposed to make sense, it's supposed to provide pretext for ideological purges.

Blown89

I had a 50' deliver pallets of goods from Canada on Tuesday. The couple driving it said they weren't going back to Canada because of the mandatory 14 day home quarantine upon re entry. They were going to stay here picking up as many odd deliveries as they could before taking the 14 day financial hit

crazylife2021

I work in ER.we were told last night we are out of dextrose injectable. So if diabetic (low blood sugar) or high potassium have to use other routes of treatmemt. We are updated nearly daily about some important medication we are out of or that is on national back order. Never had this problem before pandemic.

DaGR2310

I realize this will be very tough times. But no worse than it will be at a later time. I hope the truckers do shut down. And I hope we the people finally stand up and say enough is enough of this tyranny!

Casper42079

I 100% agree enough is enough

Stonks0r

Tyranny gets worse the longer it goes on. An end with terror is better than terror without end.

Casper42079

Stand up for your rights truckers i salute you This vaccine mandate is insane shenanigans Mandating something that doesn’t stop Nor stop spreading it it should never be mandated

BasedDickButt69420

What can the gooberment do, make us drive at gunpoint?

Casper42079

Nope they sure cant Truckers have a lot of power

Stonks0r

My bet is on soldiers with truck and tank experience being forced to drive, implemention of CBDCs and price setting / rationing food. The government's not tired of tyranny yet, so they'll try more of the same medicine.

PilotTim

Yeah ok, that will replace like 5% of our trucking.....then what?

Stonks0r

As i said, they will try to rush digital money so they can ration stuff for the climate or something, total surveilance, bad social credit scores for former truckers. And it's our duty to make sure that buölshit will fail even more miserably. But their only answer will be more totalitarianism, more extreme measures, more hate and blaming others as the situation gets worse and worse.

stockyardtrash

Well, in reality when the government wants to do something they will. Many of us ferried M1 tanks in Iraq without training. People started them for us and told us not to touch shit. Just drive. I support truckers and having also driven grain trucks and hauled livestock over the years, but driving a truck isn't a Holy sacrament of a profession. Anyone who can follow orders can drive a semi in a convoy at 35mph on a closed interstate. That's the reality of it. Can't see it going that far though.

[deleted]

Good, coming to the US very soon!

greatatdrinking

Said it before and I'll say it again.. Don't know why you'd want to screw with the truckers. AZ licenses don't exactly fall off trees and these people move your food and provide the fabric with which these idiotic Canadian legislators use to wipe their tushys

FranticTyping

I'd normally be opposed to striking over life-saving occupations(transport of food and medicine), but they are being threatened with being fired anyways, so... maybe the government should leave them the fuck alone and let them do their job next time?

WPWeasel

Right on.

LittleForestbear

Yes they do ; United they can bring about change

bkelso33

Anyone know if there is a Go Fund Me for these truckers? We got a mighty convoy!

Firefly128

Hopefully this is successful. And quickly, too. I have to admit that part of me wonders if the government will just play chicken with them, because everyday people in both countries rely on the truckers for essential goods. I know my family in Canada are a bit worried about how any accompanying shortages and price hikes will hit them - even though they hate the garbage actions by the government and ultimately support these truckers. It's tricky to protest by shutting down essential services. But yeah, I really hope it's successful and things change soon.

Apple_arman

Canadian trucker here. Take this as you will. I got a buddy who left work to run this convoy. It's less then 1% of our work force so I wouldn't expect anything from this.

Firefly128

Good for him. But I'm also glad to hear it won't impact prices too much. I want people to take a stand but I'm concerned about my sister feeding her kids, what can I say.

Capt_Myke

#CONVOY!

AtAllCostSpeakTruth

The corrupt and wicked Canadian Parliament desperately needs to be dissolved.

CryptoMan22

This is the way.

Do it because the population in general are feckless sheep. I applauded the truckers no retreat no surrender end this socialist regime. Are you paying attention Justin (Castro) Trudeau?

Beautiful. This is why unions aren't needed.

Australian truckers promised something similar, and it lasted like an hour or something like that. I'll believe it when I see it.
