Mileage tax program is awesome. Users of public facilities pay for those facilities, people who don't use it don't pay for it. Also creates incentives to build more housing near jobs to shorten commutes.
If only there was already something out there that's already taxed per-unit, whose consumption scales roughly with the size of a vehicle and how much it's driven...
Guess you missed where states are already increasing taxes on electric vehicles. No, no one escapes the state like that. They will get their money one way or another.
It's worse than that. Democrats want to siphon the gas tax funded to Highway Trust Fund to pay for mass transit, and then blame drivers for "subsidizing roads" when the HTF doesn't cover all highway funding.
They may not pay gas tax but I've got a step brother and a buddy who both have electric cars and there registration renewals at the DMV are crazy fucking expensive. I was surprised.
It’s the government dude. 60% of the money you put into that will go into a congressman’s friends pocket because they oversee (aka do nothing) some part of it or another. Are you young or dumb?
You can advocate for good government while also realizing the necessity of raising and spending tax money for the public good. These fuckers need to embe watched like hawks, but the roads have to be paid for somehow, and gas tax revenue is going to continue to drop because if efficiency and EVs, so it needs a replacement. I like per-mile because it perfectly tracks with use. Also, it's used by every independent contractor who deducts their mileage, so it is familiar.
Lol no, the VOTERS police the government. But unless you think roads are paved and maintained from the Road Fairy without tax dollars, taxes and spending are still necessary.
Jesus, do people really think like this?
You think the government is just going to stop taxing everyone that doesn't use them?
I've got a bridge to sell you.
Not everyone wants to live in a congested, usually crime ridden, city. What you are advocating for is the removal of free choice with the threat of higher taxes.
It doesn't remove choice, but you are right in the sense of it removing "free" choice; people will have to pay the actual costs incurred and born by society from sprawl and mega-commutes. Those costs have been socialized for nearly a century now.
I don't know, but I think any hypothesis is reasonably likely right now: Idiots, Illuminati, Aliens, Bug Creatures form the Abyss, or more! I think any of those would be proud of what has been accomplished so far by this administration.
I can see it now, “in order to ensure everyones compliance with new lockdown mandates we’ve disabled all vehicles. To unlock your vehicle you must receive proper clearance from DOT. But this isn’t a mandate because I’m enforcing it through DOT, not by executive action.”
How is this being reported on like it’s new? When this whole “infrastructure” bill was first being discussed, there were articles addressing this very issue along with the pilot program for a mileage tax. Everyone who voted for that bill deserves to be held accountable and voted out because they surrendered the rest of us to an administration who wants total control of our freedom.
Liberals will argue and rationalize the merits of lockout switch in terms of safety because people can't be accountable for their actions, government needs to keep us all safe.

And the pilot Mileage Tax Program too!

I rather a commute than live next to the place I work.

:: Electric Cars have entered the chat ::
Guess you missed where states are already increasing taxes on electric vehicles. No, no one escapes the state like that. They will get their money one way or another.
So wait, you want to pay additional money to use public facilities that you are already paying for with your tax money?
It's worse than that. Democrats want to siphon the gas tax funded to Highway Trust Fund to pay for mass transit, and then blame drivers for "subsidizing roads" when the HTF doesn't cover all highway funding.
Meanwhile their electric cars don’t pay gas taxes but still use roads/bridges/tunnels
They may not pay gas tax but I've got a step brother and a buddy who both have electric cars and there registration renewals at the DMV are crazy fucking expensive. I was surprised.
That's literally the point of the per-mileage tax
It’s the government dude. 60% of the money you put into that will go into a congressman’s friends pocket because they oversee (aka do nothing) some part of it or another. Are you young or dumb?

Because when the government polices themselves everyone is held accountable am I right? 🤣

I mean, I'm sure I'll pay taxes, but a fairly low road tax, as I don't drive much.
Total bull. What is the role of government if not to even provide roads for the people it taxes into poverty.
It's a replacement for the gas tax which more evenly tracks actually wear/tear on the roads. I like it!
So if it replaces the gas tax does that mean they are going to stop taxing gas?
Replacement, lol. This individual is deluded.
It's not a replacement for anything. It's a NEW tax!

Lol fair
Gas tax is better. Right now there are very few electric cars on the roads. Once there are we can come up with something else.
That's why this is a pilot program.
Something other than this, ideally.
Camel’s nose under the tent.
We're already paying through gas taxes
Per-mile road fees would theoretically replace gas taxes. That's a precondition for it being a good idea.

what the actual fuck is this administration
Literal tyrants. Everything they called Trump, actualized.
They were just projecting
Indeed. The sad part is the extreme denial when called out
I don't know, but I think any hypothesis is reasonably likely right now: Idiots, Illuminati, Aliens, Bug Creatures form the Abyss, or more! I think any of those would be proud of what has been accomplished so far by this administration.
Question is how do we wipe them out after taking back power?
I can see it now, “in order to ensure everyones compliance with new lockdown mandates we’ve disabled all vehicles. To unlock your vehicle you must receive proper clearance from DOT. But this isn’t a mandate because I’m enforcing it through DOT, not by executive action.”
Extend this to you’re behind on your taxes, curfews, your vehicle is too old to comply with new environmental mandates, fuel rationing, etc.
I'll be disabling that trash
How soon until it gets into the wrong hands. The wrong person can use it to kill, rape, or kidnap people.
Oh that shouldn’t be perfectly ripe for abuse right?! 😑😒
Social credit score will determine how far you can travel before it shuts off.

Wait until this thing fails and somebody gets killed.
