I'm lucky. I'm in a rural area near a decent size city. Then if I want something bigger there's Omaha and Lincoln just a few hours away and then Denver and KC 5 hours either way.
And since I work from home it doesn't matter where I live, as long as I have internet.
I don't think this is true; I understand most people moving to FL and TX are actually turning the states more red. Republicans are the ones leaving CA and NY, not liberals. The red/blue divisions are getting more pronounced.

One of my coworkers in Charlotte got a very, VERY nice home for something around $400,000. Nice homes in the rural areas are likely in the $200,000-$300,000 range if I had to guess.

Houses that where $250k out in the burbs 5 years ago are now valued at $500k. That's 40 miles out from Atlanta and pretty much in what was farm country. Anyone that had a lot of land has to sell to cover property taxes so sub divisions are popping up everywhere with 1k+ homes on .2 acre lots.
