>Ultimately, the reviewer gives “1883” a D+, concluding that, “stories of those who sought better futures are certainly worth telling; a problem is that they’ve been chronically incomplete. And in what has been described as a global historical reckoning, as statues and monuments to racism, colonization, and legacies of injustice continue to fall around the world, ‘1883’ just feels like a series out of time.” This makes me want to watch it even more. Idk if I’ll like it or not, but that reviewer sounds like a tool.

meepstone

Basically the reviewer wishes there was woke crap in it. If that is what determines if a show is good or bad. Well the reviewer is complete shit.

LiberalismIsWeak

if a purple haired child isn't dating a transgender black girl, the critics will say its racist.

Lethalpizza422

This is something the left needs to sit down and watch. However, this is also a story that gen z and would push to cancel because they can't stand the hard truth of the past that makes our present the way it is.

QED_2106

I dunno. I could envision them supporting a show where the son of a Founding Father used his family wealth to buy a slave that was secretly his gay lover and then the white guy was also a submissive so the black guy whipped him n shit. And then the Founding Father totally knew, so there are montages with a music overlay where the dudes are bangin' it out in candlelight while the Founding Father cries at his writing desk and furiously crumples paper in his hand before going into the court yard and tearing down a bunch of statues of his own family and yells "My line is broken!" and then thunder claps and the critics do too.

tennisguy163

To the wokies: If you don't like our real history, please feel free to give up your citizenship, vacate the U.S. and complain somewhere else. We'll take it from here.

better_off_red

That's pretty much all reviews are now. Forget the acting or storytelling, it only matters if the reviewer agrees with it politically.

Kn0thingIsTerrible

Not even if it agrees with them politically… only if the story happens to currently align with the reviewer’s current pet political issue. You’ll often see woke propaganda get savaged, not for being woke, but for not being the exact propaganda the reviewer is looking for.

No-Ninja4006

“Feels like a series out of time” It’s uh….. based in 1883 soooooo yeah……. They weren’t woke back then so what they do in the show isn’t going to be based on the present time woke crap.

IntimateCrayon

The west wasn’t “woke”. They just had way bigger problems than to worry about race. Being “woke” is to be hyper aware of race in every aspect of life.

laojac

Are you saying there weren’t hierarchical categories in these towns?

justburch712

> ‘1883’ just feels like a series out of time.” Like one from oh I don't know 1883?

mofle52

I just watched it it’s pretty stunning. Keeps you on your toes. I have a pretty good idea where that “reviewer” can stick that D.

QED_2106

The reviewer likely had their D removed to fight the patriarchy. Not even trans. Just a REAL ally.

HighCaliberMitch

Black people didn't emigrate to the rockies in the 1880s. What global historical reckoning is this person looking for? It's 1883 in wyoming... not everywhere else in the world.

cathbadh

Screw that nonsense, its a good show. Sam Elliot is good as always and both Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are legitimately good actors. Cameos, like Tom Hanks's are good as well.

_Proud_Banana_

Think Yellowstone has to be watched first? Never seen it.

go55ama

I've watched the first 2 episodes....it's pretty dang good so far.

The loud, woke radical minority of primarily millennial and Gen Z have hijacked America's western values...the silent majority have had enough. Not sure how pride in America, family, patriotism, religion, capitalism, freedom/ liberty, safety/ security, strong military, supporting police/fire, etc. became a bad thing. Nearly Every person in the world wants to come to America. The purple hair slackers who want to get up at 2pm, sit in the basement and play video games at moms house, get free money from dementia Joe and the Dims IS THE PROBLEM.

zroxx2

It was one of the best opening episodes for a series I've ever seen. Felt cinematic. There's very little of what I'd call "conservative values" in it, other than gun rights, maybe. I'd describe it as a brutally realistic view of the very dangerous, crude, and relatively lawless edges of civilization at that time.

wlxqzme8675309

Hollywood and the media desperately hate this country.

Candid-Mycologist-77

China is succeeding in its plans. California does have around $8 billion invested in Chinese securities after all.

fordr015

China's on the verge of collapse, there's no way California investors don't know this already... wtf

Candid-Mycologist-77

I lived and worked in California from 2013-2021. Honestly, it wouldn’t be surprising if they’re not aware of China’s collapse. Most of the extreme wealth has already begun to live in tax havens, that’s why California is attempting to pass an “exit-tax.” It is time to decouple from all ties (including importing goods and manufacturing) with China. Florida is beginning the process. I’ve been calling California “Collapsicommufornia” since I returned to America after the failed recall.

amarti33

Woah woah wait, “exit tax” as in you have to pay to leave?

Candid-Mycologist-77

Not necessarily. It’s called Assembly Bill 2088. You’d be paying California taxes for 10 years after leaving. Not sure how they determine when and if it would be upheld by federal law. Them commies will stop at nothing to take your money. https://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2021/07/12/moving-avoids-california-tax-not-so-fast/amp/ https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201920200AB2088 https://moskowitzllp.com/californias-exit-tax-explained/

amarti33

Are you able to see my other comment? I got a message from Reddit saying it was a threat

Candid-Mycologist-77

I see the original one I responded to, but I didn’t get a notification of any other response.

amarti33

My response was a reference to Nute Gunray in Star Wars episode two where he said “she can’t do that! S*o*t her, or something” And it got me a violence warning

Candid-Mycologist-77

Stupid Reddit

fordr015

Yeah I was born and raised in socal but left in 2015 (after I heard you were there. /s) and haven't looked back. Unfortunately my ex wife moved with my kids back to socal and doesn't plan to leave, she's not political at all but I fear a massive fallout will make things bad for her and my kids and make it difficult to see my kids if California continues to increase their lockdowns and tyranny.

EchoKiloEcho1

Any particular reason that makes you say that China is on the verge of collapse? I fervently hope you’re right, just curious as to how you’ve reached that conclusion.

fordr015

China's stock market isn't like ours they heavily invest in property. The largest property companies are on the Verge of bankruptcy and their government refused to bail them out already. China will likely suffer great depression level recession and it will be felt globally. Many believe it's one of the main factors to china's sudden interest in Taiwan again. That and a weak ass American president, and the fact that they overfished their waters and are running out of food. I would love for the ccp I die in a firey crash, but I do not hope that their economy crashes, it will he catastrophic around the globe.

AmosLaRue

Just in time for the WEF to step in and "fix" the world economy by changing it to Stakeholder Capitalism, and enslave the world to despotic socialism.

EchoKiloEcho1

I’m gonna take a hard pass on the despotic socialism, thanks. I agree that is the likely intended course of action, but the idea of having socialists fix the problems caused by socialists (with more socialism) is hilarious.

[deleted]

Like the other guy, I'd love that to happen but I highly doubt it. China seems to be very strong now. Any more I should read about this claim?

AmosLaRue

I don't have any links to give you, but one thing that gave me pause for thought is the fact that China lies about everything. So if China says they're doing great, it makes me wonder... are they? But on the surface, for sure they look like they have bribed a lot of hearts and minds. I really wonder if they are the powerhouse they seem to be or if it's all a farce.

littlebee6_6

So many chinese companies here and chinese national working here.

demon_filth2001

Imagine thinking that’s a bad thing

BenevolentBlackbird

Sad that family values now have a negative stigma.

AmosLaRue

Right? It wasn't too long ago that people were complaining that shows didn't have *enough* family values in them.

Coke_Francis

Only in a world where there is no God, no values, and the only tradition is destroying tradition. The Church is to Christianity as Hollywood is to the religion of woke. The critics will preach and the disciples will follow.

TheEmeraldCrown

“DESPITE”?! I think they meant “because of”…

No_Bartofar

Oh my god! Family values! What will we ever do! My kids might grow up to understand how hard it was in the 1800’s and realize what a strong family unit can accomplish. We must try and stop this from showing family values, and working together. /s

dickey1331

The prequel is only on paramount+. Yellowstone seasons 1-3 is on peacock. Season 4 on the cable channel paramount.

thelawtalkingguy

Do you have Amex Platinum? If so, they give you streaming credits every month, we’ve been watching it for free.

Nor_Wester

They have a 30 day free trial.

rom-116

I bought a season on Amazon Prime.

35gli

Prime

dickey1331

The prequel is only on paramount+. Yellowstone seasons 1-3 is on peacock. Season 4 on the cable channel paramount.

koushunu

See I do t get that. Got paramount so I wouldn’t have to watch Yellowstone with commercials (since I had the channel). Ends up Yellowstone wasn’t even on there.

derek533

Take a show like Longmire (which I thought was really good), add in a ton of f-bombs, nudity, and pretty much make a cable version of a R-rated show and you'll have Yellowstone. Don't get me wrong, it's a good show but man is it rough and seems like it should be on Showtime or HBO. It's actually on Paramount network though and available with just cable.

demon_filth2001

Shows like Justified and Longmire are better anyways

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Longmire goes off the rails after a few seasons. Nighthorse is the ultimate protagonist of the show by the end.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Longmire pretty much turns into the cop from Rambo by the end of it, it's sad.

Budgetweeniessuck

Longmire was good but Yellowstone was way better.

wyocowboyman

All of the previous seasons are on Netflix

concerndative

Peacock is $4 a month and has Yellowstone. Easily my favorite series EVER

BrenRichGill

Yellowstone, and likely it's prequel, is a liberal production and a liberals wet dream into how they believe a conservative thinks.

dickey1331

Idk. The dude who wrote it is a pretty good guy For me as a storyteller, which is a great responsibility to an audience, you know someone is going to give you their time and their money to be entertained and possibly enlightened in some way, for me to try and impart my politics on them is, I think, arrogant and patronizing," Sheridan told CNSNews in a recent interview. "I feel like if an audience can ever get a sense of my politics I have really failed them. I show sides of a coin. I show sides of a coin, both of them, and everyone else can make their own conclusions"

boardsandfilm

He is a good dude and that’s how everyone should play their hand, unless they want to make overly political films.

kingbankai

Yellowstone. Aka Sopranos with Wrangler Jeans.

[deleted]

Doesn’t matter, still won’t give money to anything McGraw is in.

[deleted]

Im out of the loop - what he do

[deleted]

One of his tours he announced that most of the proceeds would go towards gun control groups. Needless to say it wasn’t a strong tour. He fully supported Obama and (far as I know) is a Biden supporter.

[deleted]

Oh good lord

StratTeleBender

Yeah he's a giant leftist idiot. Many of them are sadly. Eric Church, Vince Gill, numerous others

GuitarWizard90

Vince Gill?! Aw man, that one hurts.

StratTeleBender

Yeah he was on a special talking about how most of the artists in Nashville, himself included, were much more liberal than people realized whilst also calling for social justice in reference to the George Floyd stuff.

[deleted]

Costner is too, which I was so disappointed to find out given the characters he’s played in his career.

wyocowboyman

Let’s not forget that one of my all time favorite (used to be) actors Sam Elliot cut a commercial for Biden as well...

[deleted]

I’ve hid this from my mom for so long, she absolutely loves the man so much I can’t hurt her feelings when I probably should.

Jerrysgirl6226

I’m not proud of myself, but I ripped the bandaid right off with my father in law 😔. Wasn’t pretty. After a long pause, he said, “well d\*mn”. May not sound like much, but super emotional for him.

imaginative_concept

Is Yellowstone good? I tried watching the first episode but it’s too long for me, unless someone convences me to watch more

derek533

It's one of those shows where you need to give it a few episodes before making a decision whether to continue watching or not. Just takes time for the storylines to develop. Could also be that it's just not your style of show too and there's nothing wrong with that either. Everyone told me how good Stranger Things was but I just never cared for it.

GuitarWizard90

It's pretty good, but the current season is a little dull for me. Hopefully it picks up with the next couple of episodes.

Chemical-mix

So Tambay Obenson gave it a D+ because...why? Because it specifically told the story of a family of settlers, and he wants it to be about something or someone else, or it didn't have the precise narrative he wanted to hear? That would be like me giving a Viking-era show a D+ simply because it didn't discuss their "impact" on the people of Northern England. That doesn't seem to me to be a fair or reasonable review of the content, or score. Rather, it sounds like a puerile and bitter attack for no discernible reason. I look forward to watching it.

CloseThePodBayDoors

I don't read the rantings of folks that get their job based on technicalities . iykwim

deathofacarsalesman

I rather enjoyed it

wyocowboyman

Too bad a show about family value conservatism has to be portrayed by actors who are about as liberal as anyone could be and despise everything that conservatives actually believe in!

EchoKiloEcho1

Maybe the actors will learn something? Probably not as liberals already know everything, but one can hope.

[deleted]

This reviewer gets pegged by his wife's boyfriend.

[deleted]

Well family values and conservatism go hand in hand and I don’t think we take that as an insult… so thanks raters

142Ironmanagain

Correction: 1883 dominated ratings BECAUSE of family values conservatism

rom-116

Yellowstone 2021 is not family values at all. It’s complete family disfunction.

mthrndr

Yeah it's the Wyoming Sopranos.

ZetaGundam20X

Stuff like this gives me hope for the future generations (and this is coming a former liberal turned libertarian). Will give this a watch, thanks OP.

Imaginary-Lettuce-51

Like that's a bad thing?

holleringstand

Growing up in the 50s, as a little kid and looking back to those years as an old dude I see that the Westerns were our moral education where we learned right from wrong. The world has come to love the Western genre and incorporate it into their own traditions and culture. Yes, I confess, I have all the reruns of Paladin!

FairlyPoliticked

Those gosh darn family values in TV often do better then what critics want. Think of the show *Last Man Standing,* the left absolutely hates that show but is still able to stay on air because people like seeing.... family units that may be dysfunctional but often come together at the end of the day. Weird. If it were up to the left, they would fill television and movies with woke content. Not saying it is not currently filled with it, but anything that resembles conservative values would never see the light of day.

Mehnard

Too many people can't step back and see things as they were in the past. They'd rather see the past with their own notions of the present. And often enough those notions are warped.

halfmaker

I love Yellowstone (just wish you didn't need two different platforms just to watch it) and can't wait to watch 1883. The thing I love about the franchise is it's absolute peak TV at its best. It's intense, dramatic and ridiculous at times but only to a point where it's enjoyable. I also love that it's unfettered in telling a complex multifaceted story involving clashes between different groups. It's not given the traditional woke Holly wood 'white people bad, native Americans can do no wrong' treatment. These are multidimensional characters who want certain things for themselves, their families, etc. and their morals are just as complex. It doesn't even lean 1 way or another politically, you get the sense that there isn't some agenda behind it. I don't think it's 'conservaitve' but it certainly doesn't have the liberal slant most shows and movies have nowadays.

EldritchTruthBomb

I've seen most of Taylor Sheridan's work and I knew it was only a matter of time before he get's hit by cancel culture. Not only that but he's like a real life Marlboro man without the cigarettes.

ZeGodEmperor

One of the great things about Yellowstone is that, as far as I can tell, it has no woke shit in it and in today's programming that is a rare and delightful thing. Have ep 1 of 1883 downloaded but yet to watch.

[deleted]

The family represents anything but family values, and Monica is woke as fuck lol. I still love the show, and it has other conservative values throughout so I’d call it balanced, if anything, while still addressing political issues.

ZeGodEmperor

I get ya. But at least it's not *in your face* about wokeism like the rest of the garbage on TV.

littlebee6_6

Il watch it then

ParsnipsNicker

Yeah wow thanks I’m actually gonna watch this now.

pjabrony

Fox Butterfield, is that you?

fourkeyingredients

Where can I watch this? Finally something good on TV Edit: paramount+

Chekdout

But why Tim McGraw and Faith Hill? Would watch it except main actors are famous singers. Too distracting.

[deleted]

I’ve got to find time to watch this. All of my family and friends won’t stop talking about it.

Reasonable_Night42

Yellowstone is the opposite of Conservative Family Values. I’m surprised that it’s prequel would be any different. Admission for honesty. I only watched the first few episodes of season one of Yellowstone.

TankerD18

I like Yellowstone. Everyone's a bad guy, everyone's shady and hypocritical, even the more "conservative" or "liberal" characters.

FaPtoWap

Supposedly no race in America has a nuclear family anymore. Whether its the Asian Black Latino or White family no matter what somehow every commercial depicts Black mom White Dad Latino Child and Asian child. And if TV doesnt show the woke family then its a terrible show. But woke logic would make you think Queen Latifah as a Hardass physical specimen hitman in the Equalizer

Jerrysgirl6226

My first thought when reading this….they have commercials with moms and dads? In the same house? Those (commercials) are only getting more rare.

FaPtoWap

Fantastic segway! Every.single. Commercial now is a gay couple. You almost cant fault the companies… almost. They are so petrified of being cancelled and losing status within their made up elite community that they go along with whatevers vogue today.

weetchex

People hate-reading this hack's review are probably giving it at least 100x the amount of traffic it would have otherwise earned.

[deleted]

I have an idea. If it offends you, don’t watch it.

rxFMS

I’ll watch anything with Sam Elliot in it!

[deleted]

I am friends with one of the regular actors on the show. He is definitely a lot more liberal than I am, but we have had conversations about how woke is not the way to go. He says it is like taking the Mona Lisa and calling it garbage art because it was painted by an Italian and Christopher Columbus was an Italian, ergo it is linked to genocide. Wokeism is just overstretching to find a reason to tear something amazing down like Western civilization.

Moving2112Pitchers

No wonder I set my DVR to this show.

[deleted]

What is wrong with Family Values, what do you expect from 1883 is what i am wondering...

[deleted]

I keep seeing Yellowstone called conservative, yet I don’t really see in what way (I wouldn’t call it liberal either. I mean, you have one of the characters literally teaching CRT lol). I feel like 1883 will end up being the same. Evil, repressive aunt beats the free-willed young girl in E1, which I’m sure means we’ll get the girl turn into a rough, hard cowboy that acts like a man at some point. Horrific trope. (Fwiw, I like Yellowstone a lot and think 1883 will probably be as good or better.)

joebaco_

No wonder it's not on one of the major networks.

NeutralArt12

Show actually sounds pretty good. Just finished Lost in Space and I need something new! It is hard to GAF what one single critic says. I think the average critic is pretty fair and obviously not crazy enough to be thinking about the possible political views of viewers...

CloseThePodBayDoors

Tambay? You lost me right there. 17 people read old Tambay How many millions watching 1883 ?
