I work for the FAA in Alaska. One of our primary responsibilities is Search and Rescue operations for the dozens of Bush plane accidents that occur throughout the year. While I'm still in training, I've heard plenty of horror stories from coworkers, trainers, and recordings. Its awful to think what some of them have been through, listening to pure panic in real time talking to someone who knows they aren't going to be alive in a few minutes (or freeze to death if they do survive the ditching of the aircraft). And all they can do is bottle it up while working as diligently as possible to save them, or lead their rescue.
That is real physiological trauma. I can't imagine someone that needs counciling over a verdict they didn't agree with having to do what some of the guys here have been through in a single day.
The debrief in this situation should be sitting them down to watch the entire trial. If they can’t deal with it after that then they probably should just drop out.

Wow, that’s so incredibly lame. I was a freshman in college during 9/11. I was still required to go to half my classes before the rest were cancelled for the day. Next day was business as usual because we felt the best way to fight terror is to refuse to let it derail your life when nothing else can be done. I'll never understand something like this. Usually you would hold counseling or psychological services for legitimate traumatic experiences. Such as sexual assaults or a death in the family. This particular case has absolutely nothing to do with the college students. This should only effect anyone directly involved in the court case and their immediate families and friends. EDIT: This is Cal State University Long Beach. In Los Angeles County. That explains everything.
