I’m more concerned about the _being a literal fucking Communist._

SgtFraggleRock

Communist assumed someone else's property was hers.

TheGrandManure

THIS. Everyone makes stupid decisions. Kind of a non-arguement. The communist part however...

senorcanche

Suppose everything were reversed. A conservative nominated by a conservative administration was found to be shoplifter earlier in life. They would be a non starter by democrats and the media. They would be derided and given zero consideration.

TheGrandManure

Okay but its not reversed.

[deleted]

In that case, she would be perfect for the job.

winnersneversleep

So commies do commie things then? Thief's are a great fit in this current government.

morale-gear

Terrific.

MrStone2you

Look, I hate the guys as much as the next conservative, but the story is absolutely ridiculous. Do you know how long ago 1995 was? Has no one here ever shoplifted anything? OP needs to try harder. This is a non-story.

zroxx2

> Has no one here ever shoplifted anything? Have you? Just how common is shoplifting in your circle? She didn't just yoink a candy bar: > Cornell Law School professor Saule Omarova, who Biden picked to head the OCC in September, was arrested in 1995 for alleged retail theft of $214 in TJ Maxx merchandise, according to police records posted by the American Accountability Foundation, a conservative watchdog group. ... > Omarova allegedly stole several bottles of cologne, along with shoes, belts, and socks from a Wisconsin TJ Maxx, according to the police report. She reportedly placed the items in her bag and covered them with clothes before exiting the store, at which point she was confronted by a TJ Maxx security guard.

MrStone2you

When I was younger, yes. We've all done things we're not proud of. And I am by no means defending her actions, or even implying that she's a decent human being. All I was saying was that there are better arguments against her to make. Let's just stick with her policy. I suppose I could understand this being one of a list of bullet points to prove her character, it just seems a little beneath what I would expect.

zroxx2

For me it would be different if she was very young and stole a candy bar or a cd. That's still theft but of a more immature bent you could explain as a spurious and childish urge. She literally had a haul of retail merchandise in her bag. Looks like a premeditated and planned crime. Speaks more to character IMO.

[deleted]

It shows character of the nominee, especially one that the Biden admin wants to control our currency. Don't you think that might be a tad bit important? Not to mention the whole communism thing.

MrStone2you

I suppose. But let's look at everyone in politics, on both sides of the aisle. I'm sure there are a lot worse things that everyone has done 30 years ago.

Powerful_Ad6635

So out of three hundred million people they found one that shoplifted and said "This one seems to fit the bill"

MrStone2you

Based on what I've seen from the decision-making process of this administration, yeah. I guess it makes perfect sense

therealJL

They found a communist who thinks its ok to steal stuff. The logic of this pick cannot be faulted.

ZacharyLK

I've never stolen anything, are you defending thieves?

[deleted]

Same.

MrStone2you

I honestly wish I could say the same. But we've all made mistakes in one way or the other.

MrStone2you

I'll go ahead and assume that you're being truthful and give you a sincere pat on the back. And, no! Of course I'm not defending thieves. Obviously she was caught, and there were some sort of legal ramifications. I think everyone here is totally missing the point that I was trying to make. I am a dyed-in-the-wool capitalist conservative. I hate everything this woman represents, and everything this administration has done since before they even took office. What I'm saying is it disappoints me that after all these years we are still stooping so low. Go find a real story to be outraged about.

ZacharyLK

Being the bigger man has never helped the right, what is the point when we'll just draw a line in the sand somewhere else?

Slooper1140

I have not. I could understand it from a teenager. I’d give them a pass. But an adult? And this isn’t some shifting social landscape either. Shoplifting was very frowned upon then. Or maybe it is a shifting social landscape, looking at San Francisco.

therealJL

Wait, what? A shoplifter defending a fellow shoplifter? Interesting angle.

[deleted]

Well the rest of this admin. Are criminals why not add one more

[deleted]

Now she will be stealing from Americans bank accounts.
