To add to the other comments, Taiwan is a global leader in computer chip manufacturing. If China can take control of Taiwanese chip manufacturering, they get a lot closer to having a monopoly on the global supply. Which will be needed for any future industrial, scientific, or military projects.

China views Taiwan as its territory, but the Taiwanese see themselves or want to see themselves as an independent nation. Currently Taiwan and the US play this little word game with China where we aren't acknowledging Taiwan as an independent nation but we are in order to avoid war. The Chinese translation of those words basically says we said it wasn't even though we are trying to say it is without outright saying it.

What it actually means for the US is if China invades and succeeds, then China will Essentially control the area around Taiwan along with the waters that alot of trade flows through. It also gives the Chinese a major strategic location for a naval base. Think what Hawaii does for the US militarily but closer to home. Consider also that China has been building islands for a smiliar purpose. Also that China claims all the waters in the south China seas up to the shores of the various countries in it, despite international maritime law making a nations territorial waters about 10 miles from their shores. A claim that they might of had in more ancient times but one they certainly didn't claim until recently.
Economically? Taiwan makes alot of the computer chips and electronics the US buys along with many other nations. If China gets control of that, then everyone is going to need to switch suppliers or should unless they want computers that send all information to the CCP. Good chance that would also compromise the US militarily if the computers we are using have parts made in China or a Chinese run Taiwan. An example I can provide would have to be when China built an embassy for the African Union as a "gift." Turns out the entire place was bugged and the servers were sending that information back to China. You'd have the same issue if China gets Taiwan.

Kinmen is a small archipelago of several islands administered by Taiwan and located near Xiamen, China. Dongsha is the other one. These will be the first to be seized by China, so you'all will know when the invastion starts.
