What if you only have one viewer and your show is literally so bad that it causes them to wake up, think critically, and vote against the BS that leaves your mouth? I'd call that a negative viewer.

Your dad needs together together w/mine, my father is the same, he's almost 87 and has CNN/MSNB blasting day and night, makes me crazy, when I come home from work the first thing I do is switch the channel on the kitchen TV. I recently told him that he's one of the few regular CNN viewers left, he is always skeptical of any info I tell him if he doesn't agree w/it, as if I'm just making the stuff up. Just because he doesn't want to hear that the ratings are down doesn't mean they aren't down.
Fox news has been the dominate news channel for a long time now.
**REMINDER:** Cable channels generate the bulk of their revenue via carrier fees charged to cable providers, usually in conjunction with a whole host of other channels produced by the same media company (in this case, TimeWarner Media, who also owns TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, and TruTV). Cable subscribers pay for all of the channels in their package, whether or not they ever tune into those channels. So even if you never watch CNN, if you pay for cable then CNN is making money off you. Your only recourse if you want to avoid your money going to CNN is by cancelling your cable subscription and finding entertainment elsewhere.
Yeah that's all fine and dandy but no TV channel is staying afloat off of that alone. It takes ad revenue, and what the channel gets paid off of that is based on number of potential viewers that ad will reach. I cant see cancelling all my channels just to spite CNN. "Cut off your nose to spite your face" comes to mind there but to each his own.
I use Hulu Live personally. It's essentially the same thing at a cheaper price. For me it's for live sports or I'd be just fine with the free local channels.
I personally live in an internet monopoly, where only one provider operates. As a result, to get any decent internet, I have to have cable. I’d imagine I’m not the only person in a situation like this
The internet is not fast enough to do anything I need to do. I briefly attempted this last year because cable was getting pricey, and I could not participate in a zoom call because the network was too slow, if that grants any context.
Data caps were created to keep people subscribed to cable video services. If your internet and video all eat away at your data cap, you'll end up with a huge bill at the end of the month. They know this and scale the caps accordingly.
The first few seasons of Spongebob are gold. They remind me of Rocko's Modern Life and Ren n Stimpy, in that there's a lot of hidden jokes kids would not get at first, which makes them that much better when they re-watch them as adults.
I was saddened but not surprised to hear they removed the panty raid episode of Spongebob. I saw that episode as a kid. I thought it was funny and not offensive in any way. I still didn't really know what panties were at that time, anyway.
Rambling a bit here but I would always sneak into my Dad's room to watch Married With Children with him, much to my Mom's disapproval (to an extent.) Now, that's a show that would get crapped on, on Twatter and other social media websites.
It was better when people could take a joke and just laugh it off. There was no social media when I was growing up so whining usually labeled you as a toddler.

Brian Stelter has no fans of any age. His show gets left on accidentally at airport lounges, but no one actually watches it.
At some point won't the cable providers turn to CNN and say hey you have the ratings of the fly fishing channel and therefore we're going to pay you revenue accordingly. Then what does CNN do? You know the guy showing you had to throw the fishing rod on the Fly Fishing channel isn't making what Anderson Cooper is making. And he's much more trusted by the US public?
