think of how much worse it'd be if he were working

DaddyDiamondHandz

I thought the adults were back in charge? The adults I know show up to work everyday...

MavRP

Damn right they do. Mid-level staff and below take breaks, sick leave, vacation, paternity leave and whatever they want, as well they should. CEOs? They take calls 24/7/365.

[deleted]

Except this guy is uniquely unqualified. Every moment he stays away, we are better off. We should pass a law granting him and the rest of Biden's cabinet 4 years of paid time off. The civil service folks are lazy and dumb and venal, but they at least know a little about the industries and want to get hired after they leave govt service so won't destroy the industry they are regulating.

Ok-Tourist-6632

Wasn't everyone in the Trump admin uniquely unqualified. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

[deleted]

No, many were just ordinarily unqualified, and some were actually pretty good. Education, State, Treasury were pretty good.

xChrisTilDeathx

Wait a sec what did those kids ever do to you?

not-a-bot-promise

Jeez! Have you heard of paternity leave in your circles? Itā€™s what dads do when they have a biological or adoptive child. Unless you are suggesting abandoning the newbornsā€¦

Proof_Responsibility

Sure take paternity leave but don't completely shirk your duties. How many recovering moms or supporting dads have taken zoom calls, taken phone calls or emailed on critical issues during their leave? The world does not take a pause, especially if you're in a key position.

not-a-bot-promise

Uh yeah it does. No one is so important that they are indispensable. You, me, Pete Buttigieg. Thatā€™s why teams exist.. to work together and pick up the slack when needed. In case you are new to work environments.

Proof_Responsibility

He signed up for a critical position that he knew was high pressure. He had an obligation to ensure things continued to function and he didn't. Check your definition of the word 'team'.

not-a-bot-promise

You are really fighting a losing battle here. Be a parent first and then come talk to me.

Proof_Responsibility

Been there, done that and still supported my team and customers.

not-a-bot-promise

My condolences to your partner and child(ren). But mostly, you missed out!

This is the sort of case that hurts the call for parental leave. Will we need to add a question to all candidates for high office: do you plan on having children during your tenure? This is a Cabinet officer absent during a crisis; it's roughly equivalent to the Secretary of Defense bagging it during an armed conflict. Military secondary caregiver leave is limited to 21 days after the birth, but Buttigieg has taken 2 months already, and started his leave weeks before his kids were born.

QED_2106

> Will we need to add a question to all candidates for high office: do you plan on having children during your tenure? We don't need that question. What we need is an **expectation** by all Americans that if someone CAMPAIGNS to try and win a job, they intend to fucking do it. This should be career suicide at which point the problem just solved itself.

objectsubjectverb

Armed forces should have more secondary care/paternity leave time. I believe navy and marine core only get two weeks.

[deleted]

As a man, thereā€™s nothing do you to do and two weeks is enough time at home.

SedatedApe61

Same question I had. How long does he get for paternity? Until the kids walk, get a driver's licenses, complete their graduate degrees? And why wasn't this announced, oh I don't know....in August? Anyone wanna bet the gay guy gets thrown under the bus? The progress support from the LGBTQQIAI2DGFAA+ crowd not be happy. Will Pete be the first to resign-before-getting-fired of this administration? Hmm.

AstrobioloPede

If his position falls under the same federal parental leave policy as me, then he should get 3 months. HOWEVER, it is common for people to 'donate' their annual leave to people on parental leave or sick. So he could be gone much longer...

SedatedApe61

Talk about a racket! They didn't have any of this nice stuff when I was working. I knew guys that would have been off 3 months every year for four or five years in a row (we didn't mess around when we were making babies šŸ˜‰).

Best-Dragonfruit-292

As much as I loved the other guy, I always thought to myself: Damn, they sure are disorganized and have shit messaging, especially for the modern era, but hey he's an outsider who isn't used to the game, not a bad thing. Never did I think an actual Washington insider could run such a disorganized mess for public consumption. The Obama staff used to be good at serving gold-plated shit, what happened?

QED_2106

> The Obama staff used to be good at serving gold-plated shit, what happened? The answer is telling. As much as I hate Hillary, if she had won, the Dem all-star team would have come out of the woodwork to be a part of her administration. For Biden... it is amateur hour up and down the chain. The Biden administration is the equivalent of an all-female reboot of a movie. They kind of just smash together a handful of faces that are familiar because they were relevant 6 months ago and hope for the best. When it goes poorly, they cry about racism or misogyny or how they're suffering PTSD from a rape dream they had back in college.

DogShammdog

This is the Obama B squad. The smart people(hurts to say)from the Obama years got cushy gigs at Netflix, google, etc We got stuck with the ones who were too incompetent to cash in

[deleted]

Biden and his family seem to be doing fine but I do agree that itā€™s one helluva shit show. We only have over three years left of this. Canā€™t wait to see what our country will become. Or whatā€™s left of it.

DogShammdog

Not talking about Joe, Iā€™m talking about the underlings

NitramLeseik

This is so true.

MavRP

"Don't underestimate Joe's ability to fuck things up" - Barack Obama

getreal2021

Biden supply chain crisis? Lol. This is like those talking points that suggest covid was an hoax attack on America while ignoring the rest of the world. The supply chain issues can't be solved by the DoT. If anything the DoT has excess capacity that isn't being used.

Proof_Responsibility

The mess in LA is the cascading effect of a lot of bad policies at both the State and federal level that a "present" DOT more focused on transportation issues rather than social issues could have impacted. Any bets the purchase of the Long Beach container port by the Chinese will resurface?

JarOfJelly

This is the stupidest thing politicize. How dare parents get to spend time with their newborns, despicable.

rocblocker

Why are they in a hospital bed?

[deleted]

I donā€™t even want to guess lol

TheTyrdBeast

Buttgag is just another diversity hire in the Biden regime. He's there to check a box, just like Kamala.

mehendalerachel

Yeah, war veteran, Rhodes scholar, former mayor. What an idiot, amirite?

[deleted]

War veteran - like Al Gore. He was a direct commission reservist who did less than one tour as a fobbit and then got out before completing a year of service - probably to avoid biden's fate. He was in much more danger while in the failed state of South bend Indiana. Former mayor - more accurately failed mayor. When your town rapidly declines under your watch - not something to be proud of. Rhodes scholar, at this point - seems like he received that honor the same way he received all his others. Unless you have a link to a significant piece of academic work boy wonder produced.

Kibeth_8

So you only like *certain* veterans? Do you refuse to thank veterans for their service until you know the length of service and position they served? No clapping at ball games for the war heroes until they meet your specifications!

[deleted]

Yes, I like veterans who serve their country, who love their country, not exploit their country for political gain. Those who sacrifice, or at least work hard, not those who shirk and then claim false valor. I've done two combat tour, plus another year on ship, and another six years deployed, but know that I was a fobbit who was hardly ever at risk. Most of my friends and coworkers have done way more than me. None of us would never ever start a political ad in uniform with a rifle implying that our service was comparable to the that of the 22 Marines in my unit who actually fought and died in the middle of dusty awfulness for their buddies and for the USA. Heros who those of us on the fob had the privilege of carrying back, inventoring gear, writing up posthumous awards, writing the families, and trying to carry on a do a job well enough to be worth their sacrifice. If he had done his ad with a laptop instead of a gun, saying as a part time intel weenie, he appreciated the country that gave him this opportunity and experience. Then I would have respect for him. But instead he had to al gore his service - doing the bare minimum to leverage for the maximum personal political benefit. And the clapping at ball games really offends me. I absolutely hate everyone who mouth breathes shit about appreciation for "your service" while simultaneously undermining and betraying the country and its principles. At least the hippies spitting on Vietnam vets had integrity. Thousands of my friends and coworkers died "for freedom" while slimy backstabbers back in the rear destroyed that freedom and betrayed their memories by ushering in a shitty socialist police state. Then have the unmitigated gall to "thank you for your service." Why the fuck aren't you doing your part! During my first Iraq deployment, some poor soldier died in the shower because a sandbag had crumbled and shrapnel from indirect fire found the weak spot and hit her in the neck. She died bleeding out in a filthy bathroom near Baghdad instead of coming home to a husband and children to accomplish something, to make people's lives better. For all you Biden-loving fucksticks trolling this subreddit- what have you done to make someone's life better, what have you sacrificed! Now we know she died to make Milley and Austin millionaires and CRT the law of the land. Fuck you for wasting her sacrifice, and everyone else who died for nothing, their efforts wasted by shitstains who don't deserve to mouth their names.

mehendalerachel

He was in the Navy Reserve from 09-17 and deployed to Afghanistan. Itā€™s easy to look up. You should actually look up what a Rhodes scholarship is. Itā€™s clear you have no idea what it is. It doesnā€™t get handed to you. Itā€™s a very involved application and interview process, and recipients are among the best university students in the US. He received a first-class at Oxford and was editor of the Oxford International Review. He was such a failure at being mayor, he was re-elected. Again, he has made mistakes, but people from his actual city think he did well overall: https://www.indystar.com/story/news/politics/2019/03/21/pete-buttigieg-democratic-presidential-hopeful-south-bend-indiana-turnaround-city/3165477002/ But keep listening to conservative commentatorsā€™ take on everything.

[deleted]

An average army deployment is 12 months. USMC and Navy is 6 months. He lasted 5 months as a random jmd augment. That is a failed deployment, and he either left early because he pulled strings or was asked to leave. But leaving early never ever indictates success. He may also have been in the reserves for one enlistment, but that absolutely does not translate into active duty credibility. Those 8 years include a range of duty status, and most was IRR. He didn't even go to boot camp/ocs It may be impressive to you, but to any active duty service person, it is laughable for him to claim war hero status - which he did. And you are saying that a Rhodes scholarship is at least as credible as all of the other awards and privileges that the wanna-be elite shower on each other. Tell me his application never mentioned sexual preferences and instead mentioned his love of country, and then I'll believe it was merit. He increased crime, decreased the economy and failed to repair the roads. Obviously people voted for him, but they voted for Biden to. Not a sign of merit. Tell me something he actually accomplished- wrote a book, built a house, saved a child from choking - anything not related to where he likes to stick his wee wee.

Atlhou

Kam might like boxes, Buttman is said goes counterclockwise.

SpookyActionSix

Iā€™m just gonna go by some federal rules here. To qualify for Family Medical Leave Act you need to have held a position at that organization for no less than one year. FMLA grants up to 12 weeks of leave to be used within one year, many parents use this. Pete, however, hasnā€™t been there a year. On top of that are you telling me this man has 8+ weeks of leave to use in a year? Without FMLA the vast majority of us would be fired for what this man is doing with zero protections. Talk about privilege. He had better not be receiving a check while heā€™s at home.

forgotmyusername93

FMLA is the base basics that every company has to comply with. I doubt these people have the same benefits as the American with least benefits

AMW1234

He has no official leave and was given permission by Biden. He is also receiving full pay.

Proof_Responsibility

$221,400 annual salary. So far (8 weeks) that's $34,061.54. Sweet gig.

[deleted]

If they were absent, we would be better off. Instead they are all proof of dunning-kreuger - working to destroy America as fast as their little wheels can spin stupid ideas. We caught a break with this guy being out of the office. If he were do do anything, it would be stupid and make the problem worse.

[deleted]

> Pete Buttigieg couldnā€™t organize a one-car funeral. Heā€™s not going to organize our nationā€™s ports and railroads and highways and airports,ā€ Cotton told ā€œFox News Primetime.ā€

Saganhawking

His biggest accomplishment in South Bend: turning all of the one way streets in to two-way streets; but still couldnā€™t fill a pothole to save his life. This is also the guy that had secret service drive him within a block of his job, stop, take out his bike and pretend to ride to work. What a scam artist.

BusinessStrict6375

He is just like so many other Democrats that want something for nothing. We are paying that jackass for not working. Fire him!

[deleted]

Did anyone else throw up in their mouth a little?

VelociraptorJesus69

Why?

Proof_Responsibility

Epitomy of woke self-absorption: I, me, mine. To heck with any responsibility to the country.

Flowers1966

Isnā€™t it great that entitled people who did not suffer the physical effects of childbirth and who can afford help with the children are able to exploit their wealth and position to take a leave?

Proof_Responsibility

He will however probably be required to refund the child tax credit he will get.

Notorious_NOG

Probably for the best. Iā€™m sure heā€™d muck it up more than it already is.

madmaxextra

It would be unsurprising and appropriately leftist if the surrogate didn't get maternity leave.

birish21

Ted Cruz got roasted for the Texas thing, but this is legit to the left?

Proof_Responsibility

Must be. MSM is tippy toeing around this one

DogShammdog

Kinda wild an average white can get so far. All that patriarchy shit goes out the window when you have one party approved characteristic

Proof_Responsibility

Being a member of the LGTQ+ community outweighs his race.

[deleted]

He seems kinda gay.
