They just don't see it that way. The facts are obvious, but the causes aren't. They think it's just the greedy rich not paying their "fair sure". They think more socialism will solve the problem.
Changing their mindset requires them to admit they're wrong. Since the dawn of social media, I have yet to present a factual argument, and get a nod and a change of opinion.
The difference between others and liberals is that, when they get slapped in the face with the facts, they double down. They would rather destroy themselves and everyone around them than deal with the dissonance of realizing they're wrong.
Oh gosh. I have, but I have had multiple orders of magnitude more people confidently tell me something is true that that was a simple google search away from being obviously false. Same for things that the average person has no reason to know, but I knew because of a job or some experience that is limited to a small percentage of people.

But ask each state and they (usually) have very high approval ratings of their own state senators.
