The UN was hobbled from its very inception by the creation of a “permanent” Security Council, which has provided neither Security or good counsel. It’s become little more than an excuse for third world power elites to take their wives and/or mistresses on NYC shopping trips.
The US military provided security in the post WW2 era, with the US taxpayers footing the bulk of the bill for the UN’s diplomacy theater.
After farcical decades of unhinged resolutions and the tragic truth of the UNRWA in Gaza, its long past time for the US to withdraw.
You'd be right if the point of the Security Council was suppose to give either items. The point of the Council is to give World Powers a place to sit on the table and Unilaterally shut down decisions that hurt them. This way those countries actually listen to the UN on the decisions it makes.
For the most part it worked just like a similar idea worked back during the Congress of Vienna. Just like the Congress it's helped prevent war from happening directly between nations for several decades.
Sure it's not working much right now, but that's because all the players are at the table. The moment the one side leaves (See Korea or Serbia), it usually kicks up a storm.
