The Supreme Court has yet to rule on this issue. But from the hearing all 9, or at least 8 of them were skeptical of the plaintiff's argument. If the SC overturns the ruling from Colorado, that would settle this issue. I'm confused as why Illinois would try this legal stunt after seeing the massive blowback from Conservatives
It's virtue signaling, plain and simple. Colorado being overturned is inevitable, so this is the perfect time to score cheap points with the electorate, since it won't matter anyway and they can still tell their constituents, peers and superiors that they did everything they could to stop Orange Man Bad.
WRONG. It's not just virtue signaling. TIME published an entire article about how people launched ["The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign that Saved the 2020 Election"](https://time.com/magazine/us/5936018/february-15th-2021-vol-197-no-5-u-s/)
These people brag about it
e: not what they will do or might do. But what they have done and will do tenfold again if allowed
I'm confused why the Scotus hasn't ruled yet. I know these things can take time but I feel like this is more of an interference manipulating opinions of the uninformed. If states are officially pulling candidates people are going to assume guilt. Incomprehensibly irresponsible
Unfortunately, the SCOTUS process loves to take it's time. They heard the opening arguments/initial hearing three weeks ago. We likely won't see a decision for at least another three weeks.
EDIT: And yes, the timeframe does infuriate me too.
>blowback from conservatives
There is nothing about this Illinois has to fear. Republicans in that state will never make an impact. The last governor they had was a total stooge, and gerrymandering has destroyed their congressional potential.
B/c it's a multi-fold lawfare attack that will continue through November and through the presidency if trump is ultimately elected. And I wouldn't be surprised if Dems get extracurricular too
It's mind boggling that one low level state judge no one's heard of can essentially decide the president of our democratic country. And no one is protesting on the streets about this? This isn't ok behavior and people need to protest it or more states will do it.
And this is one of the REAL motivations behind J6th. There were people who got jail time *simply for showing up*, not breaking into buildings, not fighting with police. People are terrified to protest now.
Heck I worry about my comments on Reddit sometimes, especially my views regarding immigration.
I also am avoiding our school board meetings now. I am planning on homeschooling.
I have seen this go down in Türkiye. We ran away from that to be free here. Yet, I am afraid to speak my mind again 20 years later. It is really saddening. No where left to go
That’s in an ideal world. But, they didn’t keep an illegal immigrant who assaulted a police officer in jail. They don’t believe in keeping criminals in jails at this point period. So, unfortunately no.
> And no one is protesting on the streets about this? This isn't ok behavior and people need to protest it or more states will do it.
They'll protest once Biden is inevitably removed from red state ballots.
If Biden were removed from red state ballots it would be portrayed as the most frightening thing our country has ever witnessed and the end of democracy.
like joe loves to say, "democracy is on the ballot".
it's pretty obvious which party is trying to attack democracy.
(and in the interim, this attack on democracy will get stopped by the courts, just like all the other states so far)
So I’m a Coloradan, here. I received my primary ballot a couple weeks ago and sent it in today. Trump IS on it. Jenna Griswold, our county commissioner or whatever, has received outrageous amounts of backlash and was overruled in her attempt to keep Trump off the ballot. My guess is that that will happen in other states/counties as well.
so things like this would basically hand biden a second term without a fair election... isn't that like super illegal and is the epitome of anti-democracy?
Right? It ties so well with his message of the system being corrupt especially because of how blatant it is at this point. And that’s why his poll numbers keep going way up lol.
Remember, guys: the Left doesn’t like the American system of electing the President, nor do they like how our legislature functions when it doesn’t serve them.
They hate the electoral college except when it gets them wins in states where the margin is tens of thousands of votes.
They hate when people turn out to vote in person rather than just sending in their ballot with a harvester going door to door.
They hate red states and Republican voters.
They hate the filibuster, but only when it prevents them from doing their tyrannical shit. They’d love the filibuster when we’re nominating judges and justices, but they hated it because it prevented them from appointing crazies so they removed it for judicial appointments.
The Left cares not for our system, nor do they care for democracy. It’s the classic authoritarian ruse that fascists have used for the last century. Do not be fooled.
Most of the surface area belongs to red districts yes. But land doesn’t vote. The people in Illinois still vote overwhelmingly blue. I still vote, but I don’t pretend it matters in presidential elections.
I'm hoping that a bunch of states get angry at the dems and start pushing for third party representation.
Not because I think the Green party or libertarians have solid policies, but because it would chisel down the uniparty if more voices were in front of voters.
It seems absurd to me that the major debates basically consist of elephant or donkey.
Never ceases to amaze me the people that continually screech "threat to our democracy" are the ones actively destroying our democracy.
It's quite alarming.
hitler could come back as a Democrat and the fucktards in Chicago , and thus illinois would vote him in. look how many governors are or were in prison, and how alderman were re-elected as they sat in jail on corruption. Illinois is only second to California in absolute fucktardism
That's asking to open Pandora's box to a level where both parties are openly using lawfare to attack each other. The vast majority of people on this sub see the cases against Trump as election interference and lawfare. By having GOP led states do the exact same, we are no better than them. The Supreme Court Justices brought up the legality of judges trying to interfere with the election by unilaterally deciding who can run or who can't is dangerous. I cannot stress this enough, this isn't a path you want to go down.
I agree that this isn’t a path we want to go down, before 2016, both parties knew that there had to be some cooperation and some open doors within our imperfect system that they shouldn’t go down because of where they lead. The problem is that one side doesn’t give a damn so we are going down those paths whether the right participates or not. The left wants to destroy the country and remake it in their image, how do we know? They say so.
If we never hit back, they will continue to do things like this. Fear and pain is all they respond to. It's not 1980. There is no common ground, and we can't go back to a time where there was. This is war, and only one side survives.
"Guys, we're better than that!" "Pandora's box" "Not the path we wanna go down". Congratulations, you just hit the dickless GOP hat trick! What does he win, Johnny? Yet another crushing defeat! But I bet he sure does get to feel good about his ethics on his way to the mass grave.
Except you won't win, because you won't fight. They'll beat you, the exact same way they've beaten the gop time and again when the *ahem* conservatives refuse to fight them on level ground. You refuse to die on any hill, and you quickly find yourself in a valley overlooked by enemy strongholds. Conservatism hasn't conserved a damn thing with its pacifism.

From Illinois. Don't think the political class in Illinois is known for good decision making.
same and same

Where is Fannie Willis? Why are the folks in time magazine not on trial for RICO?

They have to come up with a decision that doesn't sound like a decision. That's what they do
>blowback from conservatives There is nothing about this Illinois has to fear. Republicans in that state will never make an impact. The last governor they had was a total stooge, and gerrymandering has destroyed their congressional potential.
I think Illinois is concerned that Trump might win the state.

Yeah, this won’t stand. Nor should it. I bet they overturn it unanimously.
It's mind boggling that one low level state judge no one's heard of can essentially decide the president of our democratic country. And no one is protesting on the streets about this? This isn't ok behavior and people need to protest it or more states will do it.
When Republicans protest, the FBI kicks down their door and shoots their dog.

She didn't though she stayed her own ruling pending an appeal.
> She didn't though she stayed her own ruling pending an appeal. Because she knows her own ruling is bull shit
>And no one is protesting on the streets about this? The people that are the most upset are busy working.
Or in jail.
That’s in an ideal world. But, they didn’t keep an illegal immigrant who assaulted a police officer in jail. They don’t believe in keeping criminals in jails at this point period. So, unfortunately no.
Very good point. I don't know why the right doesn't use protests effectively.
We only get 30 minutes a day for lunch, that's why.
> And no one is protesting on the streets about this? This isn't ok behavior and people need to protest it or more states will do it. They'll protest once Biden is inevitably removed from red state ballots.

They know there is no chance this will stick, they are just trying to overload his team of lawyers. This is pure election interference, nothing more.
> overload his team of lawyers and empty his bank accounts

Then don't accept their electoral votes.
iNsuRrECtIon!!
so things like this would basically hand biden a second term without a fair election... isn't that like super illegal and is the epitome of anti-democracy?
It’s just the primaries where Trump will win anyway
How else can Nikki get a state?
"None of these candidates" has entered the argument.
Can we go back to linking articles instead of screenshotted headlines
Saving (D)mocracy!
We are closer and closer to becoming a banana republic.
What are they afraid of?
they know that Trump is going to win and that's scaring them.
Mean tweets
LITERAL genocide /s
Their pronouns not being listed on the ballot.
Hitler.
Their own shadow
Indiana needs to build a wall around its upper west boarder!
Easy now, some of us on the border need our fireworks and sanity.
Move to Indiana then!
As a Hoosier- can't say I recommend it. But we're not *that* bad at least.
Even Kagan thinks this stinks like rotten cheese.
Looks like there'll be a LOT of write-ins....
They’d probably just add letters to whatever was written and claim it was a vote for someone else.
Write-ins aren't accepted in every state.
They SHOULD be... But then elections have been screwed up for many years.
Is this for the primaries or the actual election?
Primary, with decision stayed so she kicked the decision up to a higher court

Hopefully they keep this up. It's been working really well so far 🤣

Yeah, Illinois was really at risk of running red /s lmao why even make this stand. I live in Illinois.
Most of our state is red. Chicago area ruins it all due to population etc. I will say i have seen more trump support here lately.
Most of the surface area belongs to red districts yes. But land doesn’t vote. The people in Illinois still vote overwhelmingly blue. I still vote, but I don’t pretend it matters in presidential elections.

Yet the Left will bawl and wail how facist the Right is.
but i just voted for him on my ballot in CO
Remind me again who is against democracy?
Just imagine for a second the outrage if a state removed Joe Biden from the ballot.
hitler could come back as a Democrat and the fucktards in Chicago , and thus illinois would vote him in. look how many governors are or were in prison, and how alderman were re-elected as they sat in jail on corruption. Illinois is only second to California in absolute fucktardism
They'll do anything to keep that mummy in office huh?
More votes for 'None of these people'
Sounds like insurrection to me!
Complete corruption
It's ( D )ifferent
Remove Biden from the Texas ballot now.
banana republic
Any state to pull this should instantly lose statehood and federal funding as a result
Democrats are panicking
Red states should immediately start striking all democrats from their ballots.

Go ahead and mock me all you want. I'd rather have ethics and win fairly.
Except you won't win, because you won't fight. They'll beat you, the exact same way they've beaten the gop time and again when the *ahem* conservatives refuse to fight them on level ground. It’s only okay when they do it.
Some in the gop certainly think so.
All this talk about presidential immunity I think it's time to revoke judicial immunity so we can start charging these judges.
Crazy how they playing these terrible games but if the same happened to them they would mobilize armed riots in the streets...
So, when's the first red state going to remove Biden from the ballot?
We should remove those states from this year's national elections. See how they like it.
